I'm a little surprised I didn't find any comments on this issue:I;m running Vista 64bit Ultimate edition on a core2duo 2.14 GHz processor with 2 HDD in RAID. My graphic card is a Geforce FX 5700 Uktra, which is now getting a bit older and is even no longer supported by NVIDIA.Anyway, it seems that many people, myself included, have issues using NVIDIA cards with Vista. The problem is that the display will freeze up, sometimes even going dark, followed with an error report stating that teh graphic driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered. In my case, it became worse and more frequent. Now I can only run my PC in safe mode. Occasionally I am able to star…

I recently installed the new CH update for Vista on my machine.Ever since then, if I open FSX and DON'T start a flight, the configuration file (standard.xml) reverts to the "default" settings. As long as I start a flight and actually leave the airport the file remains untouched - but if I simply open the simulator and start a flight without leaving the airport (usually when checking a new AFCAD), the configuration file reverts. It does this when FSX is CLOSING.Unfortunately, I do not know for certain if the new CH software has anything to do with this - but I do not remember noticing this happening before it was installed. This happens whether it is a default flight or a…

Hello everyone !This is my very first post on this forum and I wish what you're about to read would have been different. I "live" on my simulator (FS-9), so you can imagine how much I love this-- my dream is to become a real pilot.I have invested over $4,000 in hadrware, software and printed material...Yes I have taken this seriously !I have done intensive research on "how to make FSX" run smoothly...The answer is: "I am truely sory;" "I have not encountered a device capable of running FSX smoothly." The ultimate test I tried: ... Ten minutes from my house, there's the world's largest and most powerful electronics store I know of. Here you can buy almost anything that us…

hi everybody-hope i'm asking this on the right forum!I have an X45 stick that works just fine when I start the "select a flight-Frontier Airlines". About halfway into the flight, every button that was working just fine, starts to slow down-when I press"zoom in", it takes 5-6 seconds to react. Same for all joystick commands--however,the keyboard commands work instantly;no problem with thier reaction time. Changing aircraft;location;weather--makes no improvement. Even restarting FS9 had no effect on the joystick.System: XPS400;PD 3.0;2g ram;7900gsin the Device Mngr.-Human Interface Devices:saitek x45(HID)Driver:4.3.3.1727saitek x45(USB)Driver:5.5.0.82Saitek Magic Bus:root enu…

Hi,I have a big problem : even by activating Antialiasing to maximum in my graphic card settings, there's still some aliasing. My card is an Asus ATI Radeon X1950Pro.I had no such problem until a week ago, when this aliasing suddenly appeared as I changed my drivers for the last Catalyst 7.5. Before, I used the Omega drivers, and everything was fine. But now, even by reinstalling the drivers which worked for me before, this aliasing still appears. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this?My specs : C2D E6600, Radeon X1950Pro, 2Go DDR, HD 7200tr/min.Thank you very much!

Having an eye (or two) on the TrackIR for some time, but not really loving its hefty price tag (~180EUR), I stumbled upon the cachya software that was recently announced on the AVSIM main page. I became a FSX addict after not playing FS games since FS2 on the PC/XT (fps? more like spf...), and this promised to bring realism one step further. What is it?The Cachya software is a supplement to a webcam (any webcam, AFAIK) that, as www.cachya.com tells us, allows for head tracking. Or hat tracking, because you need to wear a hat with a special sign for the software to work. It costs 14.99 $US, a mere 10EUR, quite cheap compared to the TrackIR. Cheap enough to immediately downl…

I've been researching the possibility of getting an 8800 GTS 640. THe price differences between brands is quite large so I was looking at the cheapest(as far as I know)PNY 8800GTS 640 MB versus the dearest which seems to be the XFX or eVGA brand. The question is: What are the fundamental differences between 2 versions of the one card. From looking at the specs I can't deduce what's better (or worse) for the $.

These problems appear to be video related on my shiny new Vista box....(1) Although FS2004 will run in windowed mode if I try to switch views (from 2d to 3d cockpit for example) the window contents freeze. The simulator goes on running and can be re-entered by switching to full screen mode, assuming that you haven't fallen out of the sky in the mean time. :-)(2) Fs2004 runs fine in full screen mode and I can switch between views successfully but the Active Camera utility keys do not work and the mouse wheel based zoom facility does not operate either. The mouse pointer appears as a black arrow in full screen mode (white arrow in windowed mode) although other mouse functio…

Here's a first look at some Penryn benchies: http://www.hkepc.com/bbs/hwdb.php?tid=8373...view&rid=837360The Penryn Xeons (server chips) will be out in Q4, then the desktop versions in Q1. The current Xeons work in modern 775-socket mobos, so my impression is that the Penryn Xeons will work for us too (as always, bios willing). http://www.dailytech.com/Penryn+Benchmarks...article8325.htmIt looks to me like clock for clock, there could be a solid 10% performance gain over the 65nm core2s in CPU intensive games, like ours. There are no O/C-ing runs out (yet), but I expect it'll go to 4.0ghz on air. So, what's happening here? The current G0 core2 is doing 3.6. If the Pen…

Yesterday, I helped build a new FSX system:Q6700 CPU @ 3.2gHz, 320 FSBP5K Deluxe MB, bios 4.04eVGA 8800 GTS 640MB, new driverAntec P182 CaseOCZ 600W P/S2 x 1GB Crucial Balistix RamFSX SP1Vista 32It's a screamer system on paper with those 4 CPU's at 3.2GHz.I'm disappointed to report the Q6700 runs VERY HOT in the p5K, it idles at 50-55C even with speedstep on, the under load it hits well over 60C ,close to 70C at times. It was a very not day too that didnt help. Those temps even in the 3 fan P182 case quickly drive up temps and soon all fans are running full out and loud, even at stock clocks similar heat generated.OK, so you will take the heat and noise for the performance…

I have two hard drives, one with XP one with Vista 32 Ultimate.Video Card: Asus 6800GTLatest drivers. In XP, FSX runs great. In Vista, after about 5 minutes the entire FSX screen will freeze and I'll get weird color patterns all over it. A few moments later the entire screen will go black, and I have to reboot Vista. This also happens if I run Stalker.I'm thinking my Video Card is getting too hot... but why would it get hotter when using Vista versus XP?Doesn't FSX in Vista automatically disable Aero, so you'd think the load levels in Vista versus XP would be about the same. Thanks,Bryan

I know you're out there, all E6850 owners come here and report. I'm anxiously awaiting to hear how this beast of a CPU deals with FSX.:D Now that it's out, maybe an E6850 owner and a Q6600 owner can do a benchmark and compare findings? just food for thought...:)

Has anyone seen the forthcoming Saitek Yoke with steel shaft? looks like it could be better than the the CH one, the add on throttles look good as well, looks like Saitek will be adding instrument gauges as well in the future at an affordable price.http://saitekusa.stores.yahoo.net/proflyosy.htmlI think I'll be selling my CH Yoke quite soon.

Anyone know of a Defrag utility that can handle a hard drive with a capacity of 640GB's and works fast and well?I have used DiskKeeper for some time, but discovered that it is not compatible with drive volumes above a little over 500GB.I have a Raid0 Array with two 320GB drives. The Defragmentation utility sees this as a single harddrive with the sum total capacity of these drives and some utilities cannot handle this volume. Fortunately, the default MS provisions can, but it would be nice to have something a bit faster and more automatic. When I used DiskKeeper, I defraged every night automatically with the "set it and forget it" provisions while asleep, but it is not go…

Hi,I need some help, please. I am using nVidia 7800GTX.Athlon FX-57, Win XP SP2, 2Gb RAM, etc....- I uninstalled previous drivers (93.71) and cleaned everything.- I did not uninstall nTune.- Installed Forceware 162.18Now I have no antialiasing in FS9 unless I tick the Antialiasing option inside FS9! No matter what I choose in the nVidia control panel. Furthermore, I have no Antialiasing in windowed mode period! While nVidia fixed the menu windows in full screen mode, now I can't get AA unless I use it within FS itself?? Anyone else experienced this? I am rapidly getting fed up with nVidia and these little things. And shimmering! No way to get rid of the annoying shimmering…

Hi allI currently run an E6600 dual core (o'clocked with stock cooling to 2.7ghz per core), 2gig RAM and a Radeon 1950XT.Am considering stepping up to a Q6600 Core2 Quad solely for a performance boost in FSX. Does any one have any experience with this CPU and/or any advice as to whether or not the upgrade would deliver a noticeable performance improvement?ThanksAndrew

Throughout the years fs has been primarily a cpu hog, but is this much different with fsx? Is lightbloom cpu Dependant or more gpu Dependant? And what settings in fsx rely mostly on the gpu instead of the cpu?
