I recently setup a 2 video card system:Vista 32, 4GB Ram with OOM fixes installedMain 8800 GTS 640MBSecond 7600 256MBAfter a boot into Vista I'm now showing over 1GB of memory in use looking at the memory graph in Windows Task Manager's performance tab. That seems very high?Funny thing is if I look in the Process tab, I dont see anything that is using even close to that much memory. If your using Vista and 2 video cards can you report your memory useage as shown in Task Manager / Performance and your video card setup....

  2. ...and finds it a mixed bag at best. Why am I posting here? Cuz it has the new "mandatory" FSX benchmark, that's why!http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2178787,00.aspCheers,bt

Hey all,I am not sure this is the right forum, but searching for 'yoke' gives no results, and it is a hardwareish question.I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on what to map to which buttons and switches on the CH Flight Yoke, as I am not a pilot; in fact I haven't been in a civilian cockpit. Thanks!

The Canadian retailer, Future Shop, via a retail store, or via the Net, and you purchased it within the last 30 days from today Sept.3/07, THEN...if you take your sales slip back to ANY Future Shop store (Canada), or contact them via their website, you will receive a 10 percent REFUND (plus tax) on the price you paid if you paid a non-sale price for either. The two monitors are presently on sale at 10 percent off their regular asking price until tomorrow, Sept 4th/007.On my purchase of a 245BW last week, the refund isn't chump-change!You have the rest of today, and only tomorrow to enact this.I picked up a 245BW late last week for $499.99 (everyday price)and just came hom…

I've developed a strange problem with my CH Pedals sensitivity. Started with trouble with oversteering on the ground. I traced the issue to the sensitivity settings within FS. For some reason for the pedals FS seems locked in the "simple" mode. I hit the "advanced" button, adjust the sliders to where they need to be, save, and then when I go back it's reverted to the simple setting again. I've deleted the FS.cfg file, rebuilt a new one, resaved default flights, etc.... Arrghh! FS seems to refuse to accept my desired setting for the pedals. Any ideas anyone? Mike

I'm using the Saitek Cyborg Evo and the CH rudder pedals, which I've had for like 2 years. Well the pedals have had their share of problems after the first year. First, the right brake stopped working, which wasn't a huge problem. But now, if I put in full left rudder deflection, it usually sticks. If I hit the 5 key that centers the rudder, but then the pedals stop working until I unplug them and plug them back in. Sometimes if I put in full left deflection I get a "Power Surge on Hub Port" message and the joystick AND pedals stop working. Why does my computer hate my fs hardware so much? lolIf anybody has any input it'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

As mentioned in my multi-core showdown post, I just recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook. While full reviews of said notebook are aplenty on the net, I'll just focus here on how it handles FSX. In short - very good! In more detail:Specs are as follows:T7300 2.0GHz CPU2G DDR2 667 RAM8600 Go GT 256M graphics160GB 5400 HD15.4" widescreen - 1440x900 TruelifeOnboard soundVista Home PremiumAnd running FSX it looks like:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/177544.jpgHaving been spoilt by 3.5GHz of C2D and an 8800GTS on my desktop, FSX performance was much actually much better than I expected. I have one old machine with CPU: Athlon64 2800+, RAM:1GB DDR1 400Mhz, VIA K8 chipset motherboard, GFX: 128bit 256mb fx5200.It has now become my hobby of watching realistic ai traffic more than just flying from here to there. I have added plenty of airlines but using high quality freeware planes instead of light ai models. At the level of detail I am happy at, the framerates keep between 15-20 as long as I watch planes landing. I avoid facing the terminals as then my frame rate dips to a slideshow with 3fps due to large number of planes. Now I am thinking of upgrading my card to something like 7600gs.will that solve my problem or is there something else choking my system?

Hello all :)I want to get a new joystick and would appreciate your guidance and thoughts! It should have the following features:1. Force feedback2. Intergrated throttle lever (Im not interested in seperate units like in the Saitek X52)3. POV hat switch 4. Lots of buttons to customize (hee hee)5. Good build quality that should tolerate a little rough use now and then (WWII sims heh heh)So far only one is on my shortlist, the Saitek Cyborg Evo Force Feedback Joystick:http://www.saitek.com/uk/images/product/evoforce.jpgIf any of you own this stick I would really appreciate your thoughts on it. I know I can read all the reviews I want if do a Google but I would like to hear i…

For those of you who have been wondering what FSX performance difference 1, 2 or 4 cores make in FSX, Vic (vgbaron) and I have been feverishly benchmarking away over the last week to find out.The core benchmark we used was a 5 minute autopilot flight in the default CRJ-700 that starts out a few miles North-West of downtown Seattle, over flies the city, Boeing Field, KSEA and then heads out towards Mt Rainier. The benchmark covers a majority of the scenery that FSX produces, including AI of all types, city/urban textures, water and clouds. FSX settings for the benchmark were global high defaults, unlimited frame rates, in-game AA/AF enabled, 1280x1024 res windowed, stock A…

In the process of a new build and am looking at two MOBO's: Giagabyte GA-P35-DS3R and ABIT IP35 Pro. Anyone have any experience with these? The Gigabyte uses PCIe for LAN and the ABIT uses PCI for LAN. Would I be able to tell the difference? Other than the audio codecs they seem pretty much the same. Thanks in advance. Craig

Hi fellow simmers,My son pleased me today with a XFX 8800GTS/320 to replace my good old middle class 7600GT 256 Mb to get a bit more FPS with high AA and AF settings so I call out your best experience with the settings in Nhancer. With the 7600GT I had the best quality/performance (20-25)FPS at Multimode 4x AA and 16xAF in High Quality mode but the best pictures in FSX and FS9 in HQ, at 8x or 16x Combined and 16x AF (12-16 FPS.)After installing the 8800 there is no option anymore to get combined but only multi and supersampling.Using Supersampling give me nagged lines etc. so before I go to find out the wheel again, what are YOUR best results...I want the eye candy back gi…

These are DX9 cards and I was only going to upgrade them for the sake of DX10 support to see if that even helps that horrible FSX at all. I

Hi all Got my new computer working great with FSX showing good performance & FS9 even better. Have a problem when changing between the two, the computer hangs requiring a power off and restart. I ran filemon and it always fails at a different position normally loading aircraft or scenery in both. If I restart it will load OK on the second or third try. Once FS9 has loaded OK it will load every time but then changing to FSX it will hang again and needs two or more cold starts. After posting earlier tonight about the RAM market, I widened the net a bit to include multiple price comparison search sites and multiple PC hardware sites, and was shocked to see the RAM market was collapsing almost overnight, with shortages everywhere I looked except NewEgg. And, as said before, their prices were rising like a gorgeous souffle in a hot oven. That meant it was time to buy not only RAM but Mobo and CPU as well, bringing to bear 8 months of excruciatingly painstaking research and a heck of a lot of teaching and advice from good old d17s, a/k/a Sam.Settled on:2GB Mushkin DDR2 800 Model 996527, 5-5-5-12, 1.8V, for $101 at NewEgg (if it runs at 1.8V, it will …
