Hi GuysI'm currently experimenting with a dual monitor setup (2 x 1280*1024) which will be exclusively used with the virtual cockpit of LDS's 767 coupled with Active Camera (FS9).However, i'm having some problems setting up one position that can be used during all phases of the flight, basically, what i had before when using a single monitor. For example, if i setup a view that as far as possible, resembles what i had on a single monitor during short finals, then once i've touched down, i end up seeing nothing but runway, the horizon completely disappearing. However, if i setup a view when on the runway that also resembles what i had on a single monitor, then during short …

I'm trying to assemble a reasonable system for FSX without breaking the bank. I plan on using the Intel e6750 chip. I've noticed a considerable price variation in the two motherboards in the title - both having the required P 35 chipset. Is there any reason I should not purchase the Gigabyte motherboard and save $70 (edited)? I don't need wifi or firewire.ThanksPaul Dahlen

Hi - I've just bought a Macbook Pro 17" and have XP installed. I'm really pleased with how this machine can run FSX, but I'm curious if an upgrade to Vista will improve performance ? I know that Vista is built for DirectX10, and my graphics card is fully DirectX 10 compliant (shader model 4), so will a move to Vista reap me any benefits ? I'm thinking that maybe DX10 can offload some of the autogen scenery CPU load on to the GPU instead ?Can anyone give me any advice ? The only compelling reason I have to spend money upgrading to Vista at the moment is better FSX performance...Thanks in advance.

Hi!We're aiming for a visual setup with matrox triplehead on 3 monitors or projectors (3072x768). We also have two 19" monitors built into the panel for instruments. The original plan was to stick with FS9, but as SP1 increased fsx performance and processor prices have dropped, we're considering fsx. What do you think about the following spec, considering our visual setup?Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4, nForce-650iIntel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHzIn-Win EA-0013 Midi Tower, 400W PSUTwinMOS DDR2 PC6400 2048MB CL5 (2x1024 matched kit)XFX GeForce 7100GS TurboCache DDR2 (for instruments)XFX GeForce 8800GTS 500M 320MB GDDR3, 1600Mhz- Will a 400w psu be able to support this setup?- Will I b…

Looking to add a more powerful PS to my system, I found as I added HD's and DVD burners I had problems restarting. Using a P5K MB kept getting a 'overclocking failed' even when not o/c. So I disconnected the extra HD's and DVD burner and it boots fine.Want to get a new PS but the watt math does not add up?Example: The OCZ 600W has 4 12V rails @ 18A yet the Corsair 620W as 3 rails @18A yet rates higher?OCZ GameXStream 600W shows:Output:+3.3V: 36A+5V: 30A+12V1: 18A+12V2: 18A+12V3: 18A+12V4: 18ATotal Output: 600Wand the Corsair HX620 shows:Voltage / Max. When upgrading I'm considering one of the following AMD CPU1) AMD ATHLON 64 X2 5200+ SOCKET AM2 BOXED 65W2) AMD ATHLON 64 X2 5600+ SOCKET AM2 BOXEDThe second option is slightly more expensive but more important I think is that it consumes 89 W while the first one takes 65 W.In addition to that I wonder if there is a noticable performence difference between 5200+ and 5600+. What do you think? Is anybode using this CPU with FSX? If so how well does FSX run?

Nvidia still working on 8800 texture slowdownsG80 running out out memory, driver fix under constructionBy Theo Valich: Tuesday 31 July 2007, 07:19IT SEEMS THAT Nvidia's Geforce 8800 series of graphics cards suffers random slowdowns, and this can be particularly problematic for owners of the Geforce 8800GTS 320MB, the cheapest 8800 out there. The problem lies in fact that the G80 GPU has some trouble with texture memory management. In many unrelated cases, this bug starts leaving textures in video memory and system memory, causing the board to run out of texture memory. Once you run out of memory for textures on your graphics card and system, you will experience a lot of sw…

i'm working on my real world ppl and have just done my 2nd flight lesson and was wanting to know the exact settings i should set in the sensativity area for my ch products yoke and rudder pedals to make the plane respond as close to the way real planes respond (i already have realism set as high as it will go) i've noticed that especially w/ my rudder pedals that there very responsive and when landing the c-172 i find it hard to keep the plane strait on the runway because even the slightest movement on the rudder pedals makes the plane jerk in that direction i've been trying different sensativity settings but cant seem to recreate the real world sensitivity could someone …

Hello everyone,Just got my new computer to replace by P4 2.8. I follow some online overclock guide for my motherboard and able to OC the FSB to 342 with highest multiplier 9 (3.08G). Stable when inside window. But take abnormal long time to restart, shutdown is fine.I tried OC at 3.15 (FSD350, DDR 800), both CPU and memory check and pass in POST. But freeze when entering Windows and need restart. Another time CPU speed pass, but cannot make memory test; require reset BIOS.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/175964.jpgAlso tried OC at 3.26 (FSD362, DDR 800), it freeze in POST screen without reading the CPU or the memory. Require reset BIOS.My target OC is FSB 380 with multi…

Greetings all! I am in the early stages of building a new system and I have a few questions. The system will be primarily a FS system using FSX and payware a/c (LDS, FeelThere, Phoenix) but also Photoshop System board - any opnions on the Asus Striker Extreme? Or am I over paying for this? CPU. I am looking at the E6850 (3GHz) or the Q6600 (2.4GHz) Is the quad core going to give me more performance vs the higher clock speed dual core? RAM. CL4 or CL5? I am looking at DDR2-800. But do I get 2 or 4MB? (>2MB I think I need Vista?) As for the video card - I am sold on the 8800GTX 768 MB Thanks for the input.Kevinhttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y81/kconl.../DCAF…

I am looking around to buy a new graphics card for FSX and have seen this one - Novatech GeForce 8800GTS 640MB HDCP Enabled Dual DVI PCI Express (500MHz Core Clock) (1600MHz Memory Clock) (1200MHz Shader Clock) - will this run the simulator OK - it eventually will support DirectX10. Any advice will be appreciated.

Hello everyone,I just spoke with a friend who has stable overclock his C2D CPU by increasing the FSB from 266 to 345. I ask if he can OC further, he said his DDR2 677 has reached the bottleneck level. He said, when we OC the CPU, when need to OC the ram speed as well. Could anyone tell me the calculation different between the 677, 800 and the higher 1066I originally planned to buy the DDR2 800. Just wonder how much benefit can the DDR2 1066 may bring for overclocking performance? It cost a nearly a double in price. If it don't bring much benefit (let the Q6600 OC much more to....>3.6 or even 4), I will go ahead with the 800 as planned. Can I OC the FSB "only" without t…

Hey all. I've been chomping at the bit for months waiting for the Intel price cuts before building my new sim rig, but now there's news that the early Penryns will be released as soon as early Nov. and judging by the prices of the Xeon Penryns they will be surprisingly affordable - about the same as a Q6600 now.So, should I grab a Q6600 or E6850 now with a P35 MB (which will accept the Penryns) or is it worth sticking it out a few more months? Otherwise, I could go with a cheaper E6750 or 6550 to tide me over? Another options is to go for the Quad6600 and wait for Nehlem, hopefully late next year? Budget is always a concern as I need a good DX10 card yet, TH2GO with s…

Hi, I have a pair of 200GB hard drives set up in a raid 0 array with one just above the other in my PC case. I am trying to reduce the noise coming from my PC and have just installed a new processor cooler(Zalman 9700) with a huge 110mm fan. I have one more fan in my system which sits between the hard drives and the front of the case. Is this fan really necessary as I'm sure the fan on the CPU cooler will pull enough air accross the hard drives anyway. Tempted to remove this fan as it's quite small and incredibly noisy. Thanks for any hints you may have.Matt

I just go the latest Dell XPS H2C with the quad core processor OC to 3.47 Ghtz, 2 gig of 1066 ram, dual 8800 GTX cards, Blu-ray drive, 24" flat panel (single monitor set up now until I resolve low fps).Installing FSX was a bear with constant 1335 errors but I finally got it. On the Cessena I only get 10-12 fps with all the sliders at 1/2 way on the scenery. I also loaded FSX SP1. Any advice?

I have been looking at the PCs over at http://www.beastcomputers.co.uk/Anyone using these or can comment on build quality/how well setup and tuned? From comments at Avsim and elswhere, mass produced computers like Dell are not recommended. I don't have the skills to build a PC, making sure clock speeds/memory/motherboards are compatible etc, so would much prefer to buy one off the shelf.Any other companies recommended for gaming PCs?Thanks,Ray Keattch.
