I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this but seeing as it is a hardware issue I thought I would give it a go. I just built my new system and am looking for the best way to go about installing fsx. I have a 120 ssd as my main boot drive and a 1tb wd black hd. My plane was to put just fsx on the main ssd drive and since I have a bunch of addons I was going to put those on the wd. First of all is this possible and second of all how would one go about doing this. Im sorry if this has been asked but I have been searching and can't seem to find a definitive answer. Thanks MuchSam Wilskey

Hi,I am not sure if this is possible, so if anyone in the know has some advice I would like to hear it. I was given an old mac se from 1987 and it has a 9" screen. My thought is to use it for a cdu/fmc. Is it possible to convert the display so that I can use it as an additional monitor or is this just a bad idea?ThanksEri

Hello, I am a new member to avsim and I am currently planning on upgrading my system. I usually only fly the Level-d 767 and I usually have no problem with framerates as long as I stay away from NYC and as long as I dont use any traffic whatsoever. It gets pretty lonely being the only plane in an airport and in the skies but a huge drop in fps has limited me to not using any traffic. I use the triplehead2go and my resolution is 3480 x 1024. I also have Win 7 64 bit version. Below are my specs on my current computer. Please let me know what you guys think I should upgrade. Thanks a bunch. Hi, I recently purchased and installed an Aten DVI KVM switch, that enables me to share my sound, keyboard, mouse and monitor with 2 computers. It works really well, however, I have one issue and it only happens when using FSX. Basically, i get a kind of a "flash" that only lasts a split second, but during which the image on screen moves slightly. As you can imagine, this is not only irritating, but disconcerting when you are trying to land etc.As it only happens when using FSX, I am sure this is not a problem with the new hardware -Black shark, Falcon 4 all work fine without this issue. Can anyone think of anything ( I use the enb series mod, and capped frame rates, altho…

I have been running my new Mushkin Redline 3x2GB DDR3 1600Mhz memory for a few days now and decided to make a report. So far, I am loving this memory. It is much more stable than my old OCZ Gold, and is running at 6-8-6-24-1T timings @1680Mhz on the stock 1.65v. Another really nice improvement is now that I have stable memory, I was able to get a stable 4.4Ghz out of my i7 920. I recommend this memory to anyone looking for quality, low latency, fast memory. Here is a link to some pics of my build (not great quality, shot with my cell phone):

Just ordered an ASUS G73JH-A3, just wondering if anyone has gotten a hold of one of the G73-series laptops and had a go with FSX. I've enjoyed my desktop for as cheaply as I got it but now I'm in need of more mobility so ordered this as a potential replacement (or might just keep both, we'll see how the next few weeks play out :( ) Should arrive Wednesday, pretty excited!

I have a three year old system with 4GB RAM installed. It was running great with my overclocked nVidia 8800GTS with 320mb memory but it bit the dust. I decided to up grade to a 9800GT with 1024mb memory to increase the performance and now FSX is pausing and stuttering badly. I was told that this is caused by the 32 bit operating system only recognizing a total of 3.2 gb of total memory even with the 3gb switch. My understanding is that because the video card has more memory than before that it is causing my RAM to shrink in usable size by the amount of increase in video ram. I think I am explaining this correctly but am not sure. I was also told the only solution is…

I have an i7 920 CPU running with turbo mode on but with C-states and C1E disabled. I have to turn on C-states in my BIOS to have turbo mode run single core apps at 2.93GHz which is the advertised speed for single core mode with turbo on for the i7 920. When I do this I noticed FSX runs about 5-10% slower with C-states enabled than when I just keep C-states disabled and just have all 4 cores run at 2.8GHz all the time with just having Turbo on. I lose out on the higher single core speed though in which turbo mode is suppose to do. Does anyone know why running with these C-states turned on would slow down FSX even though my CPU will run faster if one core is used and t…

Hello all,I'm currently running FS9 on a six year old P4 3.2ghz with 2GB SDRAM and an Nvidia 256MB 6800GS.Yes, I know - it's in dire need of an upgrade.Thing is, the PC runs fine for basic web browsing, iTunes, etc - the basic stuff only. While I've got a few PC games I play (Jedi Knight II, DEFCON), they do fine on the computer. Where I need more power is FS9, and possibly making the jump to FSX.Here's my dilemma - cost is an issue, as I really can't justify spending over $1000 without my wife going batshit crazy on me. And since this will be MY rig and the existing PC still runs acceptably well for basic chores, I'm not sure a new desktop is really what I need. So, I'…

I would like to build a "simplified" 747 cockpit using FSX, the PMDG 747 and Wideview. My plan includes buying a small monitor of about 8-10 inches and using it to display the PFD, ND and upper and lower EICAS. One option seems to be to use a USB monitor. I'd appreciate any comments from people who have had experience using this type of monitor with FSX. Thanks.Phil McEvoy.

My current processor runs at 2.6. I use FS9 and get 30 FPS steady. If I use certain addons such as AI, it goes down to 11 FPS. I bought a new motherboard for 100$, but don't have the money to buy a new processor. So If I over clock it to 3.5ish, will it make a difference if I have a I3 CPU or a Intel D? I have a descent GPU, a Gforce 8800. *I went a long time w/ out AI and got 45 FPS, but I just installed it, now addicted....The tradeoff-15 fps :(And I have 2GB of RAM

I am running a Dell 720H2C with 4 gb of Ram and Vista 32. I occasional get a crash in FSX only with the PMDG 747 due to low virtual memory. I noticed that my virtual memory is set at 3 gb and not 4 gb. I hate messing with stuff I don't know about, but should I go into the virtual memory configuration and set it up to 4 gb. I heard Vista 32 is maxed out at 3 anyway - but I am not sure if this is the same issue. Please advise (keep it simple - I am no computer expert). Thank you - Paul

Sometime in the future, I will buy a new computer. Now, first of all: my options are very limited, since I'm getting myself an iMac. Whether that's better or not than a Windows PC is not relevant, so I ask you to please not start some sort of Mac vs Windows war, okay? Anyway, my choice is between the Intel i5 and i7 processor. I used to have (or still have, actually) a Intel Core2 Duo. While I know the i7 will give the best performance, how good will the performance be with an i5 processor? How big is the difference, and is it worth it to spend the extra cash to get an i7 processor? The next point is this; iMacs traditionally come with an ATI card. From what I know and hea…
