Im trying to Overclock my CPU, and what I believe you need to do is change your CPU Clock Ratio.Mine says:CPU Clock Ratio 2.66ghz ( 133x20)I try to change the 133x20 to say, 133x21 but have no sucess, as it appears to be locked, my computer is custom built and not by HP or Dell etc, so I do not know what im doing wrong.

OK everyone, my migration to FSX is now complete. The new computer arrived a few days ago. I7-980X, 6 MEG RAM/1800, GTX465 1GB superclocked, and a slow HD 500GB 7200RPM. --- I must say that this configuration is fine. I was worried about the HD speed and not getting a GTX480. I can run the sliders almost all to the right in FSX. I put the airline and GA AI traffic to 0% as I really don't care for it. All of my flying is done on VATSIM. However, I have the boat and car traffic to about 50% and airport vehicles at 30%. I think all of the other sliders are to the right.... well maybe except for the cloud draw distance. I have that at 70 miles(Is it worth going higher?).With …

Hi All Having just fitted my new 600 Gig WD Velociraptor hard drive and owning O&O defrag, i realy want to get the best out of both. I sat today and tried to understand the O&O manual which i did to an extent but has anyone got any links to an idiots guide on how to get the best out of the programe. I have two main bits of software on my hard drive, number 1, FSX which is the most used and number 2, Railworks. Can FSX be placed so that it will be the most efficient/fastest loaded. Regards Shaun

Hi all,So i've got what I hope is an easy question: I am ordering an iMac (not negotiable) and hesitating between the version with a 2.93Ghz quad-core i7 (Turbo Boost and Hyper-Threading) or the one with a 3.6Ghz dual-core i5 (Turbo boost and hyper-threading). The difference in price between the two systems is about $150, so that won't really be a factor. All the rest is the same. FS will be run through bootcamp, so no question of OS compatibility here.I had heard that for FSX the processor speed was most important, which would push me towards the i5. But at the same time a lot of people here seem to swear by the i7... am I confused for nothing? Thanks a lot

When I am flying, after a while I start seeing these video corruption. Long lines,,long streaks from trees and houses that go all the way to the sky. This rapidly increases and then my PC crashes. If I can capture the images I shall post it here.I started getting this more frequently after I got the AI working.. My hunch its not able to handle either too many polygons and textures or some sort of memory corruption. Anyone else experienced this?I m running FSX on a dual Core OCed to 3.2Ghz.Any idea what hardware that I need to fix? Is it the video card or my memory or what?

Hello I play a lot of Flight Sim X. Have recently built a rig around it to play it in all its awesomeness. Details are CPU: AMD 1090t x6@ 4ghzMEM: 4GB 1600mhzMOBO: ASUS M4A89GTD-PROGPU: Radeon 4870 512mb.HDD: 2x1TB WD Black Sata3 in Raid 0 (FSX Only drive)HDD1 OS 1tb WD Black.Addons are:ORBX (ALL Australia)ORB X (PNW)REX2ULTIMATE TRAFFIC 2 (100% aircraft)Monitor is a Samsung 24 inch running at 1920x1200. I am running FSX Acceleration with all the correct patches. I have heard that fsx is a cpu hog thus the good CPU, and the problem is not over 'stock scenery' where I get pretty good frame rates, but over my addon scenery I really feel the screen 'stutters'…

hello all,i am currently running on an AMD Phenom 9500 2.2 quad core cpu but i would like to upgrade. I was wondering what would be better for me to upgrade to, the Phenom II X2 555(i would overclock to 3.6-3.8 dual core, no unlocking extra cores) or an Athlon II X4 635 2.9 quad core(no oc)? I would be playing FSX for my flight simulator choice but do keep in mind i play many other games aswell(just cause 2, starcraft II, mw2 etc). I have a new GTX 460 graphics card, 4gb of ddr2 RAM, and 2x 320gb hdd so the only thing i really need(want) to upgrade is my processor. As for FSX i love my ai traffic and must have it at 100% :Big Grin:

I have an ESI Juli@ sound card which is mainly to be used for music production. Is there any risk that sound cards like these, which are not meant to be used for playing, have a negative impact on FS and make the FPS decrease?

I have an older system I got from a friend. I've been using it to run a 15in lcd vga monitor at 1024x768.The PC has a old geforce 4 mx 440 pci card. I'd like to upgrade the monitor to a 1600x900 res LCD monitor @ 60Hz, or maybe 1920x1080. Do you think the GF 4 would drive this monitor at a high resolution? It's mainly for pdf charts and skyvector.com

Ok, my friends...We all know FSX was badly developed from the start for our curent computers. Now, here is the question. Let's suppose one of us had all the money you could think of and we ask all the different computer parts manufacturers to build parts to run FSX smoothly...What do you think that computer would be like....What kind of processor? Like a 10.0 Ghz processor? Or, a 5,000 Mhz Gpu Video card processor ? Hummm....just wondering !In the end of you ask me.. I would love to move FSX, but after trying it (and yes, I do have a "strong computer), nothing comes close to FS9 performance, add-ons, liveries, scenery, etc. etc...There are payware and freeware out there…

Hi all,Today my trusty E8500 o/c'd at 3.8 GHz, gave up the ghost. I decided that now is a good time to upgrade to an I7 system. I am thinking of getting an i7 930 @ 2.8GHz; 4.8GT/s LGA1366, 8MB Cashe. This would be coupled with DDR 6GB PC1600 TRI Corsair (3X2GB Modules) memory. All this would then run with my existing graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 with 896Mb DDR3), a 650watt power supply and 500GB HardDrive (I forget the brand, but it runs at 7500Rpm). As far as mother boards go I know I like Gigabyte because of their ease of overclocking but don't know what model yet; just know I want onboard sound and lots of USB ports. I am open to suggestions.I will also be re-u…

Hi,Last Friday my computer suffered a lightning strike during an electric storm that ruined my Asus P6T Deluxe / I7-940@3,7 Ghz system. First it seemed that only the Ethernet ports gave up, then I realized that the PSU was gone too. I changed the PSU (Corsair HX750W) and installed a PCI-E network card to have a working ethernet port and then all hell broke loose and basically the system became totally unstable. So all in all I am sure the mobo got fried as well - I am lucky if the CPU is OK although I have no means to test it right now.Basically my problem is that I have assembled this system last spring when these components were still quite expensive and now looking at …

This may seem like the silliest question ever, but I am trying to save some space on my desktop (literal) and I was wondering if it is safe to store an external hardrive on top of a PC case. Are there any issues with heat or anything that I should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Hey all,As my existing Athlon 64 setup starts to show its age, and since the real world obligations that have kept me away from this hobby for six years have let up a bit, I'm looking at getting a new setup that will do justice for Flight Simulator X and possibly some yet-to-be-determined games. This will be a homebuild (my first), and after spending the last couple of weeks researching and digging up everything I knew to dig up, I have come up with a list of components that should total about US$1,100.I have just a few questions related to them:1) Is there any reason to suspect any of these components may be incompatible with any others? I've done the research I know …

Ok new computer is arriving shortly --- 980X, 6/1800 Ram, GTX 465 --- Since I have not even used FSX yet, Please clarify the proper procedures.First - Install and use Nick N's install guide, windows 7 minimization, and basic config. (my only concern with this is the computer is arriving overclocked from the "factory" - Nick specifically says overclocking is the last step)Second - Experiment with the First step's resultThird - Possibly further tweek with *******' guide.Fourth - Install Add On's -- ASE, REX, and aircraft. -Do I have the steps right? Is there anything that I am missing?

Hi Guys!Wondering if someone would mind giving me their opinion on this:My current PC spec is a Core2Duo E8500 running at 3.16ghz, with 4GB of DDR2 ram, running W7 x64.Iv seen a good deal for a new PC, with an I7 860 (2.8ghz), and 4GB of DDR3 ram. Both machine have an nVidia GTS250.On my current machine, i can run FSX nice and smooth, but i have to sacrifice traffic (UT2) and light bloom and a few other addons; ideally id like to have these!Question is... Is it worth buying the new PC with the I7 chip, and faster (?) ram...? Are we talking a big difference, or not much?Thank you for your help! :-)
