  1. Hi,I have a 6 year old computer with a pentium 4 at 3Ghz, cache memory 1Mo, FSB 800Mhz, windows XP. Believing what I read about performance increase , I installed an additional 2 Go Ram which gives me a total of 3 Go and a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT 512 M0 GPU, only to find out that only a small fraction of the RAM and GPU memory are used by FSX. Maybe those upgrades were not justified...My configuration is ridicule by today's standards to say the least especially in terms of CPU. The fact of the matter is that I get acceptable results with my computer at the cost of no autogen, which I don't mind because I fly over photoscenery, air traffic at 15%, every other traffic at 0…

Pardon my lack of intelligence when it comes to PC hardware. I am currently using 3024 MB of RAM at 333 MHZ. Would I see a huge difference if I upgraded to Corsair dual channel twinx 2048 DDR2 operating at 800 mhz memory sticks. My hardware will not support DDR3, so thats out of question.

I have a AMD Phenom II X2 555 processor and recently installed FSX. I get very good frames with sliders medium to high and all the default aircraft. I recently bought my first FSX add-on the Carenado caravan and my fps dropped into the 18-20 range. I would like to learn how to overclock my cpu and have never done it. I know I need to upgrade a cooler but anyone have any good guides on how to overclock this processor?

AMD Phenom AM3 955 Quad Core 3.20ghzboth come with ATI Radeon 5770 1 gig graphics cards, 1tb drives, Win 7 64bit etc. The only real difference is the AMD system has 8gb of DDR3 ram and the Intel system only has 4gb DDR3 ram.My current system is an AMD 64 x2 4600, nvida 8800gts graphic card and 2gb DDR2 ram.I use it mainly for FSX and general web browsing etc, but may try a few more sims, such as Black Shark or Lock On, however FSX performance is paramount. Both systems cost about the sa…

Hi guys,After a good few months now enjoying my new rig and getting to grips with FS9 and FSX, I want to expand my system a bit and at the same time, improve performance. At the moment I have a single Seagate Barracuda HD. I use my computer for "normal" use as well as gaming....office apps, internet surfing and digital photography being the biggest usesSo, I'd like to do the following but need some (lots?) of advice of how to go about it;1/ I want to put FS9 and FSX on a separate drive (probably WD raptor) for better performance2/ I want to build in some "redundancy" for my everyday office and digital photographyWith this in mind, is it possible to use a 3 drive setup....2…

I am buying a new laptop for fs9 mostly. i have two laptops in mind, one with an i5-520m another with i7-740qm, and knowing that fs9 runs on a single core, cant decide which one is better for fs9. I would like to know which one can run the sliders maxed out at 20+fps in intensive areas? Because the i5 has higher clock speeds, i am leaning towards it, but i can get a better overall deal on the laptop with an i7.Thanks,Ferras

Well looks like Amd is going full speed with there new cpu's unfortunately it looks like Bulldozer wont come out yet maybe somewhere in 2011. but I really do hope they can compete equally with Intel's new processor's the more competition the better for us. but it looks good so far. http://www.anandtech.com/show/3863/amd-discloses-bobcat-bulldozer-architectures-at-hot-chips-2010

  13. I have just ordered my next FSX PC (see specs below) and have been searching for a tutorial, or post that instruct how to best move FSX. I also bought another copy just to be legal because I likely will keep the current Q6600/680i based (EVGA 9600GT video card). Are there any best practices, or tips that anybody would recommend ? Looking at two SSD´s, Corsair Force Series F120 120 GB and the Corsair Nova Series Solid State Disk 128 GB. Anyone knows which is better? Or is there a better brand with same size and price? How many frames will such an acquisition probably add when going from a conventional, but dedicated hd?

Hello... Long time lurker, 1st time poster. I am pondering my next FSX build and have many questions/issues which I wanted to put to the community.Preamble: I currently have two PCs, one for HTPC in a micro-ATX case and my main FSX build from 2007. I would like to build a 3rd PC so we can have an HTPC in another room. I initially looked into building a PC for this purpose ($300-400) but then I thought why not farm out the 2007 machine for HTPC duties (mid tower ATX, can hide behind a TV stand) and get a new FSX build... for the right money of course.Location: Canada, preferred retailer, Canada Computers because they are nearby and helpful guys. Don't mind mail order thoug…

Hi Everyone,Prepping for my FSX configuration, and I have a question re: video card selection. Previously, I was considering a EVGA GTX460 1GB card to sit with the i5 760 processor. However, my local vendor has this video card on back order, with no firm info on when it will be back in stock. As I was looking around, I spotted 2 alternatives... an EVGA GTX460 768MB, and an EVGA GTX465 1GB. The GTX 460 is clocked at 675 mHz, while the 465 is clocked at 607mHz.Question is,,, which would be the better choice for FSX,,, going with the smaller but faster GTX460, or with the larger but slower GTX 465?Thanks for your thoughts.Mike

Bob,My MB (Asus R3E) will only allow for all SATA ports to be AHCI or IDE. I am going to put my OS on a Crucial C300 SSD and FSX on Velociraptors. In another thread you stated that SSD's perform best on AHCI and mech drives on IDE. Since I can only choose one or the other which one should I choose or should I get a separate PCIe controller for either the SSD or the mech drives? If I should get a separate controller which one would you recommend and should I put the SSD or the mech drives on the separate controller?Rod
