I am thinking of installing FS9 and FSX either onto one 80GB SSD drive, along with the OS - 80GBs would accommodate the OS and the two default installations with ease, I calculate c.40GBs in total, or (better?) having Win7 and FS9 on one 40GB SSD (total of under 25GBs) and putting FSX onto a second 40GB SSD. Might even stretch, financially, to 2 x 80GB SSDs - leave me a bit more room to manoeuvre. But my main question is this. I see from Process Monitor that during a flight FS9.exe is accessed hundreds of times a second - but obviously I would need to have all my FS data, like addon scenery, FS Genesis mesh, Ultimate Terrain etc. etc. on a conventional SATA drive - I could…

Ok, please pardon my lack of intelligence on the subject of overclocking. I am new to this and have limited knowledge from what I have researched. My question is this: I have managed to overclock my Phenom II 555 BE processor to 3.6 MHZ through the muliplier and every thing seems stable. My HT link is set at 1600 MHZ. The problem is that I installed Corsair ram TWIN2X4096-8500C5 DDR2 which right now is set at 400 mhz. It says it is speced to run at 1066 mhz at 5,5,5, 15 latencies, but when I got into the bios and set the dram freq. to 533 mhz. the pc will not boot up. When it is set in the auto mode (400 mhz) everything runs fine. My question is this, should I even bother…

I am ordering a new system for FS9 and FSX. The basic specs are:Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bitGigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R MotherboardIntel Core i7 950 3.06GHz - Overclocked to 4.00GHzGeForce GTX 460 Sonic 2048MB GraphicsCorsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C9 1600MHz RAM.. and I was thinking of 2 x Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB 10000RPM SATA as the hard drives. But the latter add a lot of money (like £300 +) to the system and I am having second thoughts. Can anyone say whether adding 10,000 rpm drives to the above rather than 7,200 rpm drives would make much difference to performance? Over £300 worth (if any??).Thanks,Martin

Some of you will remember my posts over the last three or so months about FS9 CTDing with supposedly missing files.I have been running a lite FS install on another HD with no problems, slowly adding scenery, but then I got distracted - in the best way possible - by the iFly 737.Then yesterday I reinstalled DBS Studio Airport GPS and my flight crashed. Uninstalled it and completed the flight. Installed it again and crashed. I have removed it again and will restart the flight, but Im pretty sure now.If the program really is the culprit it will be a shame, cos its a very handy little tool although its very clunky in use (have to Alt and pause) and I will get lost at big a…

Hey guys!I´ll be traveling to NY in about a month, and I plan on buying a Core2Quad Q9550, since my old Core2Duo E6400 has given up on me, it just can´t run stable @3.2Ghz anymore, so I have to use it Stock, which is unacceptable for FSX and todays addons. For those of you that are going to tell me to upgrade to the newer i7 technology, I won´t do it this year, I plan on doing so next year around holidays, I want all these newer technologies to be stable and standard, like USB3.0, newer Sata, newer videocards, etc, etc, so my only option is staying on my LGA775 socket. So, considering the above, would you say the Q9550 can handle FSX plus complex addons like PMDG, etc well…

I am using the amd phenome x4 64 chip at 1.8 ghz, I really need to upgrade. I'm not sure if I can do it myself. I need some advice on how to do it. I looked at a video on youtube and it looked pretty straight forward. I am just wondering If it is possible with my computer it is a gateway model DX4200. If i do buy a new chip do I have to install all new software or will it be as simple as putting the new chip in and startion up my computer with lots more speed.Thank you in advance,Anthony

So, I kinda want to pick up FSX. i've been flying X-plane lately, but I want more eyecandy, more nice planes to choose from etc. So I have some of the parts from a home server that I built. This is my proposed setup. Would it run FSX nicely with addons like FTX, REX, autogen, some AI and so on. I've just seen this on the BBC news website about Intel's latest development of merging graphics processing with the CPU into one chipset.http://www.bbc.co.uk...nology-11280200It's the first I've heard of this sort of technology but i'm sure there are plenty out there who already knew about such goings ons.It made me wonder though about the impact this sort of hardware would have on FSX.Adam

First and foremost, sorry if this is in the wrong section. So, recently (mid-august) I built a new gaming / video editing rig. However, I'm not receiving quite the performance I was expecting from it.... Running REX and GEX Europe, my only two relevant addons, and I'm receiving ~15 FPS on average at Heathrow in stormy weather with the default King Air.Most settings on max, autogen is on Dense. What do?Specs:CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T OC'd @ 3.64 GHz (will be continuing onto 4 GHz once my CPU cooler arrives, original clock for the processor is 2.8 GHz)Memory: 2x2GB DDR3 ramGraphics: Radeon HD 5750 1024MB cardMobo: Asus M4A785TD-V EVOThat was with FSX SP2, about to test i…

I'm planning to run my Q9650 at 4GHz or better with my VenomousX cooler with 2X 120mm fans and I've also got a GTX285. What is the best chassis I can get for under £100 giving good air flow? So far I've narrowed it down to:Coolermaster CM690Coolermaster CM690 II AdvancedCoolermaster HAF922Apparently there's also a "Lite" verson of the CM690 II??? But I can't find any definite information on the spec. Also I'm not really into the "pretty computer", just something functional.

One of my sim computers has stopped working. Will not power On. Swapped out the power supply but still will not turn On. Must be a motherboard problem. Can I remove the hard drive and install it in my other sim computer? Un-plug the SATA cable and plug the cable into the other computer's SATA port. I just want to get at the programs on the drive.

Building new system trying to decide on hard drive setup.Figure I'll do one SSD for the OS and games and a separate drive for FSX.For FSX is an SSD going to be better than a WD Velociraptor? Space isn't a big deal, my current install is 32 gigs for FSX, so I figure 128GB will be plenty for the drive. How do you tell what a good SSD is, what specs do I look for on it etc.? Any particular standout brands / drives?

Hey guys,I've been a simmer for several years now, I play primarily ( a Heavily Modded) FS9 and get decent results with FSX on my PC. I'm starting to run into some serious issues on my computer. Blue Screen of Death, FS9 and FSX take forever to load, and the computer will randomly freeze will surfing the internet. Playing FSX has turned into a slide show with jagged graphics. I've run McAfee and there are no threats found on the hard drive. My question is what should I do? I don't mind replacing the hard drive, upgrading video cards or RAM. Here are my PC Specs. Thanks!!! I'm looking at buying an Alienware system (I know building yourself can be cheaper but I'm looking at financing and that's not available with that route).Primary reason for the PC is FSX - I want something that will run detailed aircraft over ORBX scenery with lots of weather and traffic at good framerates basically. I also play World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2, plus add Diablo 3 whenever it comes out.Just have a few questions and need some advice on a few things....For processors I'm looking at either...Overclocked Intel® Core™ i7 980x Extreme Six Core Processor (4.0GHz, 12MB Cache) orOverclocked Intel® Core™ i7 980x Extreme Six Core Processor (3.73GHz, 12MB Cache) Is t…

Looking to build a new system and OC the CPU to 4-4.2 ghz (whatever ends up being stable, using a Noctua D14 fan).Anyhow there's only a $30 diff between a 930 and a 950 - should I go with the 950? Any difference for OCing? Figure 950 is better but want to be sure.

Im currently just playing around with the idea of upgrading or overclocking my video card, im trying to get over 700 mhz core speed on my 285, although i know i can, is it really worth it or does it not change anything for FSX? I like this card and clearly it is the 512 bit card i have and am acheiving nice results although a little more fluid and a few more frames will always help. THerefor upgrade or overclock. Can anyone say how much difference buying RAM with higher latency will make to performance in FS9 and FSX? I am thinking of a new PC with a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R M/B. I have a choice between DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500 RAM, but the price difference between DDR3 PC3-8500 and DDR3 PC3-12800/PC3-10600 is enormous.I don't want to spend more than £200 sterling on RAM, so would I be better off (performance-wise, I mean, not financially!) buying 6 (i.e 2 'triple packs') x DDR3 PC3-8500 (giving me 12GBs of RAM in total) rather than 3 (1 'triple pack' of DDR3 PC3-12800 or PC3-10600 (giving me 'only' 6 GBs).The options are here:http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/list…
