hello, for the moment I am using an 'old' X38 motherboard with an intel E8500 cpu and 4 Gb RAM (1333Mhz)Until last night this combo worked perfectly when overclocked to 4,01 Ghz (stock speed is 3,16Ghz).And when I say until, you can guess that something has happened. No, I didn't fry my cpu or motherboard but I still think it's breaking down.Last night, when I booted, the pc rebooted and reset it's default values in the bios.Only after a hard 'reset' could again boot into windows. However, when I tried to reset my bios values to thesettings before the crash, the pc crashed again. After some trial and error the pc runs stable again at 3.60 Ghz. Going higher results in a crash…

Does anyone know of a good sound card that they would recommend for a new system? The PC would only run FS9 & FSX, so I don't need a great array of music control options, but I do want (as do we all of course!) something that will run smoothly and help avoid stuttering (video stuttering - often associated with sound files trying to play in my experience).BTW, I am not a fan of Creative (Soundblaster etc.) cards - had too many bad drivers in the past...Suggestions please??Thanks,Martin

Hi, during the past year Ive been upgrading My PC component by component on a budget, and because the PC is used as a regular gaming PC I opt for the AMD ATI rig.The problem is that I consider i should be able to run FSX in a smooth way, this doesnt happen. Firstly I was suffering from Vsync Issues until I added the correct lines at the FSX.cfg ForceFullScreenVSync=1 this solves the issue, but then again, Im suffer from slutters every now and then my sistem is as followsASUS M4A785TD-V-EVOAMD Phenom II X4 955 overclocked just by Multiplier to 3.8 cooled by coolermaster HTX-3 running 2 fansHD5870 overclocked to CCC at 900MHZ Catalyst 10.84 GB of Ram Kingston two of 2GB K…

What would you guys say if I am gonna get 8GB of RAM (dual-channel for AMD system):2 sticks of 4GB or4 sticks of 2GBWould I even notice a difference?Do boards have more trouble working with 2 bigger sticks or more smaller sticks? What about those latency numbers? Go for all matching numbers like 9-9-9-X or just find the lowest like 10-9-7-XShould I go with a higher speeds like DDR3 2000 so I have headroom? Or stick with DDR3 1600 and just overclock maybe?Leaning towards 2x4 but to work with the Asus Crosshair IV AM3 motherboard but haven't got clue as to what manufacture?Any input, ideas, comments most appreciated.Clutch

Anyone using a Thermalright Silver Arrow dual tower CPU cooler??? I was planning to get a VenomousX single tower + 2X Akasa 120mm Viper fans, which ends up costing more than a Silver Arrow which comes with 2X 140mm fans. My RAM also has heat sinks and it appears that the Silver Arrow is likely to be a tight fit. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

Hello All -I am trying to squeeze the last bit of performance out of my old MSI K9N4 SLI motherboard. I see that the max CPU I can use is either:AMD 6000+ 3.0GHz w/2MB or 6000+ 3.1GHz w/1MB L2I generally use FS9 with a TH2GO and a second video card for the MIP. Does anyone have any thoughts on faster processor or more L2 cache. Thanks in advance.Daniel

This is my last post on the topic concerning the GTX 480 and i7 980X. Please take a look at the video and if you have had similar problems with graphics and found a solution I would love to have the answer. My next step is to try another GPU and if no luck change the CPU and memory. You can find the video on you tube at the following: Chip

My computer has recently taken to occasionally flashing a Blue Screen of Death then crashing and restarting. Another thing it's been doing is attempting to load Windows then saying it can't and going into repair mode. The only thing that will make it start Windows is running the Memory Diagnostic Tool, which never finds anything. Some things I have changed in my computer recently:-Reapplied thermal compound-Installed 2x2GB of Corsair DDR2 RAM-I'll admit I messed around with SetFSB and I believe that was around when problems started (I used the wrong PLL ID a few times)-Installed 9800GTI don't think this is a PSU problem because even though I'm using a Dell stock PSU the co…

I have an Asus Xonar D2 PCI Audio card. Can anyone confirm how important the settings in the Asus driver are to FSX. For example, I can set the "sample rate" to PCM 44.1, 48, 96 or 192KHz. Logic says that 192Khz gives the best quality but would FSX be "happier" with a different (lesser) setting? There are also settings for "virtual surround. Will these interfere with FSX at all?The reason I ask is that I have noticed that occassionally, but not always, it is reported in the Windows Action Center / Reliability History, that the Asus Audio Center crashed (see log below). Even when this happens, it does not affect the sim or the sound. I only know about it because I occassio…

It runs ok for a while then clags out. I am currently using an E8400 CPU. My current motherboard is capable of being upgraded to a Q9650 at 3GHz. This quad CPU also has a 12MB cache. I am wondering if I should upgrade my CPU only, or if I should also upgrade my motherboard to enable the use of a core i7-950 at 3.06GHz. Would I notice any additional benifit, cosidering this CPU has a smaller 8MB cache? This PC will be mainly used for FSX.Any advice would be most appreciated!

  20. Hi. I have FSX at home running on an i7 920, with GTX 260, 12 gigs RAM, Samsung 3d Monitor. Runs like a charm. I have FSX on an external drive.I have recently bought a 5th wheel for travelling south in winter, snow birding Canadian. While the rig is 33' and totally comfortable for being on the road, I would like to take my FSX along and be able to fly on occasion. My PC is just too big to handle storing and there is no convenient "office" space to locate all the PC stuff. This brings me to thinking that what I might want to do is invest in a good laptop capable of running FSX with good FPS. I can just plug in my mouse, my joystick and my external drive and be flying quite…

  21. I am posting because I am not a techie and am in the limited funds mode presently. I have a 3 1/2 year old machine which basically is an EVGA 680i MB with an E6700 running at 3.6 ghz. Also have the 8800GTX vid card. 4 gigs of Crucial Ballistix RAM, dual channel (I think and I can't remember the speed). Have an old XP Pro op system with the switch so it sees 2.75 gigs of RAM.Bottom line ... Would dropping the bucks for a faster processor with the same socket give any bang for the buck, since I can't afford to buy/build a new system right now? Seems like there was a general concensus as to whether the quad or dual core in that family of processors was better. But I d…

I got my new 980X computer the other week. And I noticed lately that it has started to boot 2 times when I turn it on. And I can't remember if it always did that since I got it. I don't think so. Is this normal? Should I be worried? I heard this is typical of any computer with the EVGA cards o/c'd -which mine is (GTX465). Any thoughts?

Aloha from Maui,I have just upgraded from a i7-930 to the i7-980X and am using the GTX-480 for the graphics and no overclocking at this time. The improvement is is more than I expected with FSX flying now being very smooth with excellent frame rates. The problem I'm having is graphics glitches that happen randomly when landing or flying at low altitudes. The "glitches" seem to be related to autogen scenery activation. Some scenery such as certain runways flash white for a few milliseconds. Groups of trees in rare cases flash white when the autogen trees are activated. When flying at high speeds a few hundred feet above the ground I never see any of the stated problems. Wh…
