Always hear of late the Intel i-7/Nvidia combo. What I'd like to know is anyone using a AMD Phenom II quad core (or even the 1055T 6-core) combined with a high end ATI card? If so, how's your simming experience?thx,Cliutch

Hi!Well, I've already asked some questions and got some great advice on which kind of computer hardware I should get (and finally) I'm going to get it. My budget is about 1600€ (1500€ is what I'd like to pay) and that means all parts will be bought from the same company in Finland, that will assemble them into a computer. So I'd like to have your opinions on this computer.Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E [(229€) Cheap, high scores in reviews, LGA1366 (Gulftown 32nm support), SATA 6Gb/s and USB 3.0] http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=gFBKfNyhppW9tDbBCPU: Intel I7 930 [(295€) 2,8GHz]GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 470 SuperClocked+ [(379€) Improved cooling, 10 year warranty and overcl…

I have a Q9650 CPU and am using Arctic Cooling's MX2 paste, the Arctic Cooling instructions seem rather fool proof, perhaps too much so compared to the instructions for Arctic Silver products.Arctic cooling MX2.Arctic SilverWhich method is better? Also I'm using Akasa Tim-Clean citrus based cleaning fluid, any thoughts on this?

Hi, I have built a new superfast i7/Windows 7 system. I am currently using the onboard realtek audio, but I also have a Creative XFI soundblaster pci card that I chose not to enable just yet. Are soundcards now obsolete because onboard audio is just as good/better? I also had plenty of crashes on my old system, and wasn't sure if maybe the soundcard could have been a culprit. I heard of PMDG a/c having texture corruption/sound issues but I am not sure if its related to soundcards, onboard audio, or both. I just had a crash in the PMDG 747 on takeoff from imaginesim KATL on my way to KPHL, the screen froze, audio was corrupted with a loud deep beep sound. I followe…

Morning everybody!I'd like to hear an opinion on this system I'm going to get as soon as high school exams are over:Intel Core i5 661 @ 3,3GHzASUS P7P55D EVO2*2GB DDR3 1600 by g.skill with CL6 latencyATi 5770 1GBOverclocking is planned: already yielded great results on my system and the processor that I've chosen should be quite overclock-happy.I'm on a bit of a budget (It's already at about 650

Hello all. Looking for an answer to a question that no one seems to be in agreement on. Previously my system experenced CTDs, BSOD, grey screens and other errors on moderate (default) settings for FSX, keep in mind my system is high-end. The only components that are not top of the line are RAM, and my 5870. I checked everywhere for fixes. The following is briefly what I have had to do:1. Reinstalled FSX Acceleration2. memtest 86 all RAM individually3. UIatomationcre.dll removal4. uninstalled all addons5. Reset all of my settings for FSX to default6. Deleted fsx.cfg7. Reduced settings on REX 2.0, Ran FSX with no REX8. Fixed registry errors with CC cleaner The only thing…

I'm about to do a bit of an upgrade on my system and I need help deciding whether I should upgrade my RAM or my motherboard first. I currently run 2x1GB of DDR2 RAM (can't remember the speed I think it's either 400 or 600mhz) in the stock motherboard (made by Dell) of my Studio 540. Like most Dells overclocking is disabled. So for my upgrade I am debating getting 2x2GB of DDR2 RAM (from Corsair) or an ASUS P5QPL-AM LGA 775 Intel G41 motherboard. This should enable overclocking right? What speed would I be able to reasonably overclock my e7500 to running on air cooling?Which one of these upgrades would provide the biggest performance boost? With my budget it's currently on…

I have been plagued by the texture popping from day 0ne with FSX. Always happened when I was flying the pattern or just tooling around on the taxiway. Little black or white texture flashes. Im running a high end system and was getting frustrated so I did some research. I dug around and noticed I installed GEX and REX on my C: SSD and all my other files on Drive X: for FSX. Uninstalled both files and deleted the folders, then reinstalled both programs on my X: Drive and lo and behold my texture flashing is gone. Might be something you can check out if your running FSX on a seperate drive and have the texture flashing problem.

Hi,Actually, I'm planning to buy a new hardware for FSX, but there are no plans for overclocking, since I don't feel comfortable enough with this technique. My question is how big is the advantage of having i7-980 Extreme vs i7-960 in terms of FSX dedicated computer. The base frequencies are almost identical and the only differences are L3 size and unlocked multiplier, but the price ratio is 2:1. Therefore, should I stick with i7-960 of save monies for 980 model?ThanksDmitriy

I have a question that I am not sure as what to do:1. I just received the new version of the "GEX North American dvd.2. I have the old version installed (been there for a couple years) - GEX, USA CANADA ALASKAQuestion: When I installed the old version did it reconfigure the default terrain from FSX? Can I installed the new version over the old version? Do I have to uninstall the the old version, then, install the new version - if I do will it have the default scenery to build on?Thanks in advance!RHSorry Guys - Wrong Forum!RH

I want to install a second hard in my present system which will be a WD Raptor SATA Hard Drive. I will then install Flight simulator FSX on the new drive and use it strictly for that. Here is my system: Intel e6600 Core 2 Duo @ 4.00GHz ASUS P5Q Pro OCZ Reaper 2X2GB DDR2 800 (PC 6400) EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640 MB WD 250GB GB SATA II Corsair CMPSU 550WI suppose that I should plan on setting it up on Raid 0. If someone is familiar with this board, I would like to know if there is any reason that I can't install this HD, and should I set it to Raid 0?Is there any pitfalls in transferring data?

Hi,Maybe a dum question, but I'll ask anyway :( I'm planning to buy a i7-980x with an ASUS P6X58D-E mobo.I plan to install the following RAM : Corsair Dominator-GT - 6 GB : 3 x 2 GB - DDR3 - 1600 MHz / PC3-12800 - CL7 - 1.65 V - ( 7-7-7-20)If I'm correct the RAM runs stock at 1333 Mhz and for now I'm not planning to overclock. Does this memory need to run at a minimum of 1600 Mhz or can it also run at 1333Mhz (and still at 7-7-7-20)?

Using O&O 12 ... just wondering if others using O&O have experienced the same. Seems like an awful long time to do a complete defrag. Maybe that's the way it is.

I am in the process of building a replacement rig for my current my FSX system and had a few basic questions about SSD's...When using SSD's is it necessary or advantageous to still put the OS on a separate drive? IOW's would it be best to buy a small less expensive 40GB SSD for Windows 7 64 and then a larger 160GB drive for FSX and its add ons or simply buy the biggest SSD I can afford and shove it all onto one drive? Thanks in Advance.Robert

I got my parts(see signature)...thanks to you guys and have the system all assembled...but now when I boot into Windows 7 my system will lock up on me sometimes....it is very intermittent. I am suspecting...maybe the Velociraptor...but I don't know. The only thing I have installed on the system is FSX and NOD32...Antivirus. Do you have any ideas of where to start troubleshooting? I am thinking of installing Vista 64 on a spare drive and dual booting...just to rule out the Velociraptor...and go from there. Thanks for any help. Randy

Hello all,I hope this is in the right section! I recently replaced a 22" 1680x1050 monitor with a 26" 1920x1200 monitor. Now I have the 22" monitor collecting dust and I've been reading how some people have a dual monitor set up with FSX where the gauges can be viewed on the 2nd monitor while the main monitor is used for the main view etc.I can't seem to find any basic guides for setting up a dual monitor and the ones I can find relate to specific hardware like nVidia or a triple monitor set up. My GPU is an XFX 5870 which connects to my main monitor via HDMI. The GPU has an additional 2 DVI sockets and my spare monitor has a DVI socket, so connecting the 2nd monitor shou…

Hi,In my almighty wisdom I decided to try to overclock my system (again).I have a i5-661 with a ASUS Maximus III formula moboBasically the only thing I did was increasing the buspeed from 133 to 153 (multiplier stayed 25) and increased the RAM Voltage to 1.64.(I have 2 x 2GB Corsair PC3-10600 / 1600 RAM which should accept 1.65V)Everything else was left on AUTO settings. This resulted in a core speed of 3.850 Ghz (coming from 3.33 Ghz)I ran OCCT for an hour without any problem, CPU temp was stable a 53CNext I started FS2004, and boom: BSOD - Bad Pool Caller.Oki, no panic, end mission and just reset BIOS back to (automated) default. Started FS2004 again under my normal sett…

After getting FSX I want to squeeze a bit more performance out of my E7500 to smooth out performance. It is currently running at stock speed which is 2.93ghz. The catch here is that my computer is a Dell so overclocking is disabled in my bios and the only option I have found is SetFSB which I know is less stable than overclocking in bios. Also keep in mind my computer is using stock cooling but so far from all the monitoring I have my CPU tops out at 41C and my GPU at 60C on very low fan settings.-How can I find my PLL ID? I have looked inside and out using all sorts of programs but I cannot find it.-What would be the highest safe overclock I could do before temperature b…
