I am going to have to replace my boot drive and replace it with a larger drive. I have all of my FSX files on a separate SSD drive as well as my data files on a WD Caviar Black. The only thing on my boot drive is Windows 7. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying a 30G SSD as a boot drive and it way to small to serve the purpose. I'd recommend at least 60GD.Does anyone know, if by reinstalling windows, I will have to re-install FSX and all of my add-ons.Thanks for your help.

  3. Hi all! After years of craving, I will finally be able to buy my new PC so I can upgrade from FS2004 to FSX. This purchase will happen tomorrow. I had my choice for months but lately I have seen a cheaper computer, and it is always good to save - so if this cheaper computer can also handle FSX properly and smoothly, I would go for it, saving around EUR 300 over the other one. Please, guys, review the below system and get back to me, what's your opinion, is it OK to run FSX? This is a specific product, and is one of the two configurations I am gonna choose between. The other one is however more expensive, but if you FSX guys say that the below one will be OK, then I order t…

  4. Is it possible (via BIOS) to reduce the number of PHYSICAL cores to 3 and (in theory) push it beyond the 5 barrier? or you CAN'T reduce Physical cores? Since I use FSX with 3 cores only (afiinity mask 12) I was thinking the level of performance I would get with a 980X using half its cores, any thoughts?

  5. Just bought a new pc I7380 with 6gb ram and a 480gtx. Dont really want to overclock, but i would like to get rid of blurries, they dont seem go away unless i turn the sliders all the way to the left. Fps is very good even with many cloud layers, its just the blurries on the ground that annoys me a bit.

HiI was just looking how things are going on FSX. What I see is that hardware is getting better but still I am looking over some discussions talking about 20 or 30 FTPs. It means that after 1 or 2 years we are still talking about 20 FTPs and not about 40 or 50, whatever the hardware used. The question is: what should I buy to get at least 30 or 35 FTPs, using almost all necessary sliders to the right; PMDG, level D or such these type of aircrafts; full AI traffic; and addon airports like EGLL, KJFK or EDDF from aerosoft, flytampa or others; AES; Active Sky and so on? What I see is that after some years FSX is out, we still don

Hi All,After reading a previous post here concerning file distribution and discs, I'm curious. With how cheap drives are now, how should we really distribute a FS9 or FSX installation including addons? Operating system stays on the primary active system drive (usually c: but I know it doesn't have to be). Where would the page file, if being used, go? How many drives to buy? Where and how many ways physically or logically do we split FS? All interesting questions.Currently with FS9 I have my OS XPsp3 on drive0 C: and my apps on drive0 D: FS9 sits on drive1 E: with a final partition on drive1 S: for storage. Thinking of adding a separate drive (magnetic or SSD) for FS9 and…

Hi,I'm currently purchasing components for an FSX dedicated machine.I'm after some advice with regards to Hard drives. My motherboard will support usb3 and Sata 6GB (Asus P6X58D-E X58).What will give me the best performance? An SSD, a 300GB Velociraptor?? do I wait for the USB3/SATA 6GB drives to come out??Does anyone know if having SATA 6GB will make any differnce to FSX performance at all?in fact does having a quick HDD make much noticible difference in FSX?Please advise. Thanks :)Phil Mosley

I just wanted to sound off about the quality of the products we are foisted with today. I always spend top dollar on the best quality equipment for my hobby, yet sadly this does not seem reflected in its reliability. The failure this morning of my OCZ vertex 60GB SSD which housed the operating system of my number 2 PC is just the latest in a string of hardware failures over the last 2 years, including 2 velociraptor hard drives, 2 Nvidia high end video cards and a tagan 1100 watt power supply. All of this stuff was class leading top of the range supposedly best quality.meantime, my cheap as chips $200 PC's at work that i brought 4 years ago soldier on with no problems.I t…

............so enough with the Shakespeare already! Bringing this over from the 2004 regular forum, just to get a new opinion - although I am already resigned to OS and FS re-install.FS9 on XP, extensive payware craft, enhancements and scenery, other progs networked to laptop. I have been succesfully running the 3Gb switch for some time, thanks to good folks here on this forum, which resolved previous OOMsNow:after 90 minutes of flight CTD with "Cache directory" errors - endless streams of individual files from a whole myriad of sceneries - apparently "missing". Interestingly the missing files were on diferent continents from where I was flying at the time.Rebuilt th…

I need some help, I just got a sound card Creative Labs Titanium Pro, anyways I have never had a sound card before, my mobo UD7 only has one small PCIEX slot that it can fit into, but its blocked and I can't get the card in. Now I have 2 PCIEX 16 slots and 2 PCIEX 8 slots, can I install the sound card in one of them, if so which one would be best the 16 or 8? I just want to be 100% sure, I don't want to fry anything.

Hi there,I've just started thinking about building a new PC, not having really kept up with the hardware situation. As far as I understand it the idea behind multiple cores is that the processor is able to handle multiple processes similtaneously thus increasing processor performance. My question is whether flight sim would benefit from this, would it use all four cores of a quad core processor? Would it be better to get a dual core processor with a higher clock rate or a quad core?I am thinking of the AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2Ghz My thinking being that even if FSX would not benefit from the extra 2 cores, at least I have something in my pocket for when the next generation …

I currently have an Intel motherboard, and an Intel Duo core 3.0 GHZ, I am using Windows 7 64 bit and have 8 GHZ of RAM. I have a GEFORCE 8800 GTX card.I have FS9 with a ton of commercial scenery, and I run a lot of AI, (complete set of World of AI, plus several others created by me)and I also fly mostly PMDG's 737 and 747 aircraft.I ususally run about 23 FPS but at around the airports it drops to around 14 FPS, and also sometimes while flying on spot view it stutters to 4 or 3 FPS for a second or so a few times and then back up.I want to get no less than 25FPS with full settings. What should I get, without spending a fortune?ThanksJuan

Hi GuysBefore purchasing memory to suit my ASUS P7P55D-E LX mobo / i5-750 combo, I thought it best to review ASUS's QVL to ensure compatibility. My requirements is 2 x GB DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800, CL <= 8, <= 1.65V. However, after reviewing the QVL, I'm struggling to find any RAM here in the UK that's actually on the list. Interestingly, although the mobo manual clearly states Intel's requirement for memory voltage not to exceed 1.65V, the QVL lists 1.9V memory...Assuming that I don't exceed 1.65V, would you guys recommend purchasing memory that's not on the QVL?Here are a couple of possible candidates that are within my budget that I'm considering:http://www.ebuyer.co…
