Someone convince me the SSD is just too much. :( Im building a new i7 930 6/8GB 5870 ATI system. I cant go more than an 80-120GB SSD drive with my budget. But I wouldnt mind knowing what some people are feeling when their FSX with SSD drives are running together. I know some time in the past there was some stuttering due to the read access of the HD. I ran raptors before.I don't mind running other games or programs off a 1TB SATA drive. I can live with a little bit longer load. But, the FSX system is a hog and if you folks think that SSD will make a wow difference I may just jump for it. I would put the OS on the SSD, and HD hungry FSX and other programs on the SSD.

Hey folks, I am avid 20 year fan and user of MSFS. As I have aged, I have slowly become more and more ignorant on techs and specs - but quite frankly have always found it challenging to sort out all of the information on good hardware setups on MSFS with respects to over clocking, core usage or not, CPU versus GPU weighting. So you guys have always been much smarter than me on this...I know there is still no silver bullet though...Here is what I am interested in...-Completely new PC and monitors...-My only requirement is that I be able to use (3) monitor setup. I will purchase new monitors at same time. -I do not want to learn how to overclock...Questions...- I have …

Anyone has any experience with the i7 860 or the i7 930 processor for FSX? I am planning to put together a new system. Any great advantage using i7 930 over 860, given the following. The cost difference between the 2 is $130 more for i7 930. i7 860 (2.8GHz):MB: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 LGA 1156 P55RAM: 4GB DDR3-1600 OCZ Gold (2x2GB)Video: GeForce GTS 250 with 1GBHDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7,200 RPM 32MB cacheOS: Win 7 Pro 64biti7 930 (2.8GHz):MB: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 X58RAM: 6GB DDR3-1600 OCZ Gold (3x2GB)Video: GeForce GTS250 with 1GBHDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7,200 RPM 32 MB cacheOS: Win 7 Pro 64bit

Hey guys, I am running fsx on q9550 no OCing along with the gts250 512mb. Its summer time here but my room temp is not more than 35C. I have had no problems whatsoever and fsx runs smooth 25fps on my chosen settings. While on cruise in a flight I decided to run core temp and gpu-z and checkout the readings and I was puzzled and shocked at the same time (screenshot). I can hear the fan whirring up when switch to fsx. wasnt expecting cpu to get so hot with stock speeds and stock cooler. Should I believe these readings? strangely gpu usage is 0% with vid mem usage of only 300mb. Is gpuz incorrect too or is there unused potential in my card?

I'm getting close to a final decision on my next PC. Hopefully able to run FSX in a decent way ...To be used surely for FSX (and perhaps FS9) but also as my main "production" machine. That is Office and web applications, as well as playing other games : i.e Silent Hunter 5, Napoleon Total War etcI plan to order from a UK system builder - as no local (that is Danish) builder seems to to have what I would like to order.I'm well aware that building your own might save me quite a bit, but while money certainly still is a consideration, time is also money and for now time is a bit more scarce than money ...Proposed System Specification:- Case: Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultima…

I just upgraded my mobo (ASUS p5Q Turbo Pro). The technician used my 2 x 2 GB DDR2 ram but he also added my old (same specs, latency, brand - Corsair) 2x1 GB DDR2. So now i Have 6 GB. But the mobo user guide says "you may install varying memory sizes in Chanel A and Channel B. The system maps the total size of the lower-sized channel for the dual-channeld configuration. Any excess memory from the higher-sized channel is the mapped for single-channel operation"From what I read in various forums I believe I am loosing speed with this configuration. I intent to remove the 2x1 GB sticks and put the 2x2GB sticks in the recommended DIMM sockets for OCing (on my mobo the yellow s…

HelloI'm very interested in using VOX ATC comms. I use Vista and have what appears to be a common problem in that the mic volume is far too low. There are numerous reports of this on many Windows Forums but I have never found a solution.Am wondering if anyone is using any VOX software with a mic and VISTA and if they came across this low volume problem and how it was solved please?ThanksAidan Bartley

I am planning to custom build a new PC for my 13 year old son, who is a big FSX fan and wants to be a pilot. I have always bought off-the-shelf systems in the past (usually Dell) but I'm ready to try building a PC. Actually, I want to build two - one for my son, where the main use is running FSX, with other simulators following, trailed by other games, surfing the net, homework, email and other typical uses, and the other one for me, where the most demanding use will be photo and video editing (Lightroom plus Photoshop and Premiere Elements), followed by other typical uses. As an aside, I am interested in sytem backups, and in media streaming, but I'm looking at using par…

Hi,I'm doing some stress tests with ORBX PNW, Extremely Dense AutoGen and:TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=6000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=6000I can see in the performance counter that the Avg. Disk Queue Length goes over 10 for short periods of time, the disk is a 300GB velociraptor (10K RPM) I understand that the 'test' is not realistic at all, I'm just curious to see how an SSD drive manages this monster load. My CPU/GPU (specs in my sig) are under 60% during this test. Would others (specially the ones with SSD drives) care to test? this is a realistic measure to determine if your disk is a limiting factor on your install.

Anyone with a similar system to mine have any luck? I'm shooting for 3.4-3.6 for the moment, but can't boot most of the time, and when I do, it is hardly stable. i7 920 C0 SteppingAsus P6T (standard not deluxe)6gb XMS Corsair 1600mhz Anyone have some settings they'd like to share? I don't even know where to start now, I'm not sure if it's a memory issue causing the BSOD and no load problems, or if it's a voltage problem. Basically looking for somewhere new to start. So if anyone with the basic P6T has some settings that work let me know. I'm aware that all hardware is different even when running the same components, but some help would still be great. Thanks!

Hi everyone!I just picked up a 930 for $199 at Micro Center. The bad news is it can only be purchased at that price in store. There are only a few stores throughout the US. If you are close to one and looking for a new build, then this may be worth the gas. :) That is at least $80 less than any other retailer I was able to find. It is the retail boxed version. http://www.microcenter.com/Bob..

Just curious as to what the consensus is re when CPU prices will come down again. New stuff isn't out until next year so does that mean prices on things like 980X will hold until then or possibly drop a bit?Currently the 980x is >$1kUS. WOuld be nice if it came down.

Hi guys, i have a question about overclock that is in my mind..I have Q9550 overclocked to 4.06GHZ at this moment, stable for 24/7. with good results. BUT, i have to downclock my memory to 950 stock volts and cant touch the timings if i want my system to boot. I have seen people that can get the same ocz reapper 1066 at 950 and 4-4-4-12 timings but i dont know hoe they can get the system to boot. Now the question, if i put my Q at 3.82, i can leave my memory at 1061mhz with stock volts and original 5-5-5-15 timings. Now, wich one is the best settings for FSX? 3.82+1061 mems, or 4.06+950 5-5-5-15?If i can touch anything from my mems with the Q at 4.06, that can be amazing, b…

Hi,I've just replaced my old HD (250Gb) with a new one from Western Digital. This new HD has 1Tb so it will solve the free space issues I was having with the old one.My old HD was divided in two partitions. C: and D:My OS (XP), programs, documents, etc. go on C: and my games, including FS9, on D:I backed up both partitions with Acronis True Image as usual, removed the old HD and installed the new one. I check the BIOS for the new disk and all data was correct, including size.I booted my PC using the Acronis True Image Recovery CD and chose the option "add a new disk". Identified the new HD in the list and created two partitions. One with around 300Gb (C:) and another with…

Short flight with system crashes on final all seem to have been caused by multiple Afcads.I am still getting OOMs at the end of long fllights so it looks like I really do need the 3Gb switch. But - I see in the Wikipedia entry that the switch only works with XP Pro or higher. Is this right? Has anyone done it with Home (SP3) ?

I've been researching a new system for my dad now that his old P4-based laptop is terminal. He hasn't been able to fly even FS9 on it, and wants to build a new system that in addtition to doing his office work will let him fly. Of course, he's eager to try FS X, but doesn't want to over or underspend. I've gotten good starting advice on a hardware forum, but feel like I need help from people with experience building systems for FS X. Of course, the final performance he gets will be dependent on his willingness to tweak FS, but for now I'm concentrated on maximizing hardware potential. He has no starting components except some peripherals, but the monitor and most software…
