Hello everyone,I've been experiencing some HD trouble lately. As you can see in my sig, I'm currently on a 320 GB hard drive. I used to have a 500 GB hard drive solely dedicated to FSX and addons, but here's what mystifies me.One morning, I turn on the computer only to find that it won't POST, and upon inspection, the 500 GB hard drive had failed, and somehow, in turn, the 320 GB drive was wiped out as well. I have gone through THREE hard drives like this, and for no apparent reason, they kept failing, and I had to exchange them for new ones. Only the 320 GB hard drive survives today. Is it the motherboard or the HD that is the culprit? HD's shouldn't fail on a monthly basi…

Hey Guys,I just got an i7 980X, along with a EVGA GTX480SC and an Asus P6X58D Mobo. I did a fresh istall with Windows 7 64, and then installed all the software. Next, I followed NickN's Win7 optimization, and then defragged. Following, I started FSX and to my amazement, it ran like #$U#%*&! I then opened the task manager, and saw that the CPU was running at 100% (HT disabled) and the GPU was only at its 725/1400 when the cpu load was 100%. Prior to the tweaks, FS9 ran fine. I tried to take off in the default cessna- horrible! What do you guys think it could be? The memory is running at its correct timings, I have double checked the BIOS, I don't know what else to do!J…

Can MOBO drivers/software be rolled back or can older versions be successfully overwritten on top of newer versions?Reason: I recently update from 15.25_nforce64 to 15.51_nforce64. One of the updates had to do with the ethernet connection and it also placed 2 new services in the Vista Services which I have tried both started and disabled to no effect. I am now unable to start my O&O 8.6 64. One of the services is a firewall of some sort and this could be an PIV4 versus IPV6 issue. Have been in touch with O&O service, and working on this but thought I'd ask. No other programs seem affected.Thanks.

  6. I currently have a Q6600 Quad running at 2.4ghz and have never been happy with it's performance. I have tried doing a bit of overclocking but all it did was cause FSX to crash. I am considering replacing it with an E8400 Core 2 Duo running at 3.0ghz.It is about all that will fit my current motherboard. Does this make any sense to anyone out there or am I wasting my money? Thanks for your help.

  7. Hi Everyone,In a never ending battle to utilize FSX to its fullest, I purchased the following SSD, an Intel X25-M SATA 160GB SSD (SSDSA2MH160G2R5). I'm going to keep Windows 7 on my 10,000rpm Raptor and I'll place FSX and all my addons on the SSD.I know there are a few things that need to be done to setup my system to be SSD friendly, just not sure what they are. Guess I could use some help from someone whos already made the switch to SSD. I have an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard I know I have to change/config the bios, is the only bios change required is to set AHCI?Also what Windows 7 64bit services need to be turned off?.Think the steps needed are as follows.1. Now, while that's a disaster in many ways, it means I get to (finally) buy another one.My requirements for any PC has always been that it has to be specc-ed sufficiently to run FS9 and GTA4 smoothly. Hi All(Sorry about title - i mean FSX!)I currently have a E8600 / nVidia9600GTS+1024mb with 4GB DDR2 ram. I find that although FSX runs very well in 2D, the LDS 767 in Virtual Cockpit isnt always great, I have no other addons apart from Active Sky, and dont use traffic.I have decided to bite the bullet and buy a new PC. There are too many old components in my system which prevent me from upgrading on a budget any further (eg. 350W PSU, IDE drives, slow HDD etc...). Also, my 17" monitor is too small to read the VC gauges.I have found the following spec'd PC. I would be very grateful for any thoughts on whwther you think it is a good upgrade. 14. I've got $200 bucks to spend at Best Buy, and I'm looking to upgrade my home built PC specifically to get better performance for Flight Simulator X.My current set-up includes an E6600 OC'd to 2.99 Ghz (Stock cooling, so haven't pushed any higher), a Nvidia 7600GT, 2 Gig of Corsair XMS2 PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (running XP). Flight Simulator X runs on its own 10K RPM drive. My goal is, whatever upgrade I make, to not be bottlenecked by the other remaining components. (For example, if I went to something like a Nvidia 250, I wouldn't want the CPU and/or memory to hinder it.)If a $200 upgrade doesn't get me significant improvement, maybe I'll go for a wide-screen monitor. What do …

I am pretty much a hardware neophyte, and am near complete on my specs for a new computer. I plan on having a local computer shop put together the following components: Intel I7 930 (which will overclocked), ASUS P6T Deluxe V2, 6 GB Corsair 1600 MHz ram, and a GTX 285 1 GB video card. For all of you hardware experts, does the following make sense for hard drives. For the OS and all non FSX stuff, a WD Blue 500 GB 7200 RPM 16 MB cache drive. And just for FSX, a WD Velociraptor 300 GB 10,000 RPM, 16 MB cache drive.Any ideas or considerations you have would be appreciated.

I want to build a new PC, budget wise, I'm very flexible. I haven't upgraded since my Q6600 almost 3 years ago, I pretty much waited for this day, and now I want the best. I am not going to rebuild "right now", I want to wait probably a few more months until a) Nvidia gets their act together with fermi, :( hexa cores hit mainstream (no way I'm wasting a $1,000 for a CPU that'll be $299 in 4-5 months, that money is better spent for something like a PFC yoke but anyways....). I have been reading a lot about SSDs, their gain is obvious, yes fast load times, better texture transition, etc. But what about SLC vs MLC? Yes, FSX doesn't do much as far as write I/O, once you insta…

At the end of the month, I'll be getting a sizable paycheck, and I figure it's time to take FSX off my 3 year old laptop and give it a proper home.
