Hi. I'm looking to get a new rig for both FSX and FS9. I wondered if anyone has a rig similar to the one listed, which I am considering. If so, what FPS could I expect with payware aircraft such as PMDG 747 and detailed sceneries like AES Heathrow? The new rig: Case: Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 Power: Thermaltake Toughpower 600W CPU: Core i5 750 8MB Cache Socket 1156 CPU cooler: Akasa AK968 X4 Graphics: BFG GeForce GTX 285 OC 1GB (single card) RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz C8 Twin3X Motherboard: either MSI P55-GD65 Socket 1156, or Asus P7P55D LE Socket 1156 – advice please! I wonder what performance using a CPU rated at 50 percent 'faster' than an i7-975 will translate 'out upon the FSX taxi-way?I get a solid and well performing 30 FPS with the i7-975. So...would that translate out to adding another 15 FPS to the mix? A solid 45 FPS?Would that be worth it to an i7-975 owner to shell out another $1,000.00 (U.S. funds) to pick up 15 FPS?I guess the above pondering...will be answered by user 'x' in the latter half of this coming March. For myself...I'm going to be sitting in the weeds until I hear what comes from that user's postings. While waiting, once you have reached the threshold of 30 FPS, and satisfactory/usable animation of FSX, wil…

Wow, wow and only wow. This is by far the best board I have ever owned.Starting from the quality of the board itself, it feels more solid than any other I had, and concerning performance:I recently did a comparison to my old computer, all comparisons with the same situation file:FS9:Situation 2: no clouds, Flytampa Vienna, view over it8800GT (oldsys): 67FPSGTX285 (oldsys): 73FPSNew sys (with GTX285) @ stock speeds: 68fpsNew sys @ 4.2GHz: 90fpsFSX results to follow in couple of days.OK, upgrade went without a glitch, except I have to run a stock Intel aircooler until my watercooler arrives - argh. 6. HiI am still trying to find a laptop that will run FSX at high frame rates and good detail. The new Asus G73JH seems promising as it has an ATI 1GB 5870 graphics card, 8GB DDR3 RAM and a core i7 720QM processor. Has anyone any experience with this computer and FSX? The processor seems to be the weakest link but I've been told I can't upgrade it here by the distributor. Many thanksGerry

I'm currently working on the specs of my new computer which will be used both for work and for the occasional FSX flight. My hardware guy has given me the choice of an i5, i7 or i9 processor. From what I've read here, the i7 is more common than the i5. My question is, will the i9 make FS run any faster (ie better frame rates) over the i7 given that everything else stays the same, or is spending the extra money on the i9 just a waste of money? Thanks!Dean

As stated in topic description - get rid of 196.75 driver ASAP.http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/nvidia-...g-graphics-car/There are many more similar topics on net. I cannot found the driver on nVidia site anymore. It is a shame that there is no info for customers who already upgraded the drivers.

So I'm finally making the jump from Vista 64 to W7, I plan to wipe out everything and start from scratch using NickN's guides. Here's where I need some of your opinions on my HDD situation. As it sits I have a 750Gb WD Caviar Green, I also have a 1TB WD Black on the way. I also have an older WD 160gb I use strictly for my photo-scenery. I understand that the VelociRaptor 300Gb is the recommended choice for the FSX but money is tight right now and I will have to wait on that. So for now I'm wondering what my best bet is. Would I be better off installing W7 64bit on my WD Green 750Gb and using the 1TB black for FSX and photo-scenery/add-ons? Is it better to have the …

I stumbled upon a nice freeware disk defragger if anyone is interested. It's called JKDefrag. I'm using the 64bit version with my copy of Vista Ultimate x64 and it works great.I ran it from a command line and used the following command, JkDefrag.exe -a 7 c:This lets it defrag c: drive and uses optimizing strategy 7.7 = Optimize by sorting all files by name (folder + filename).Afterwards I ran it again using the windows version. Seems to work better than the default ms defragger.http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/

The other day I ran down to Best Buy and picked up an i5 laptop thinking that it had 4 cores. Later I found out that it only has 2 cores with hyper threading. So I was wondering should I trade it for a i7 laptop with a worse graphics card or just keep what I have? I should say this is for fsx and blogging, photos, etc. I really don't do any other games.Currently:Dell Studio XPS 16i5 2.26ATI HD 4670 1GB4GB DDR3500GB 7200rpmor get something like this?Toshiba Satallitei7 1.6nVidia 310M (512MB)4GB DDR3500GB 5400rpm

  19. Hi, I am getting sick of endless freezes caused by the Asus Striker II NSE.I decided to get rid of this crap. Two options are considered:1. MoBo only replace - Gigabyte EP45 series (1333MHz DDR3 support)2. go for i7 /i5 - I cannot allow more than 6GiB 1666MHz and 870 (4x2.93) or 930 (4x2.8) CPU. Eventually i5-670. It has two cores, but faster than other i7 quads.Would I benefit from i7/i5 technology? It will be used only for FSX - CPU dependent app.Socket 775 is much outdated technology, but I do have QX9770 for it (3200GHz) and good OCZ DDR3.Video card used is GTX280, I would stay with it.Any advise or links will be much appreciated.PS I found a i7 960 D0 3.20GHz with 3m…

hii am considering upgrading my computer and am looking a machine that is ready to go, eg a dell , hp or gateway etc. I do know that this can cost more then buying the parts and putting them together , but time is also a cost factor as well.:) Anyway I currently have a e6300 at the moment, and a 4800 series ati video card and 2gigs ram, the max that my current mobo will support (ESS 945P). Now I am pretty up to speed on the cards, but in terms of the processor, what would i get the most bang for the reasonable dollar without spending more money then is needed to get good performance? I know a lot of folks are hot on the i7 chops, which one has been known to give good …

Hard to believe. Here I was, happily running my Q9650 at 4 GHZ when I wanted to eliminate the stutter I got at low altitude in the turns. I tried faster ddr2, (ran it at 1125), and looking for a ddr3 board for socket 775 didn't seem wise. They are disappearing fast so that could mean money down the drain if I needed to replace one. I sold the Q9650 and shopped for an i7-860 and got a good deal and the stutters are gone. BUT! Now I get random disappearing of textures and flashing screens when I access the full screen menu and I don't dare try to replay a greeased landing because about a third of the time I get the black screen of death! Surf the forums and find out …

I am considering to buy a new mobo Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R. I am choosing this one because I can have 2 e-Sata and the new USB 3.0 on it.As processor I am choosing the Intel I7-920.But I am at lost for which DDRAM 3 to choose. Not so much the brand but mainly which type: DDR3 1600 or 1333. Searching in various forums it seems that there could be a problem with the 1600.Or should I aim 2200 or 2000 or 1800.What are your experience ?I know that there are lot of ASUS believers out there but that brand cannot (yet) provide e-Sata and USB 3.0 together.Only if it appears that Gigabyte has too much problem would I change my mind.Roger
