What do you think? I read many adventages of both sockets, and I still can't figure this one out...Both seem to have good CPUs, but what do you think?I can only see that production of 1156 motherboards is cheaper apparently, as both hardware and motherboards are cheaper. And 1156 is dual channel only I think...So what's behind it?

...enough to have some manufacturers suspend sales of their product line! The Mushkin Redline Ascents have been deactivated at Newegg, AND..every one of them (different timings) are no longer for sale RIGHT FROM MUSHKIN!Not rocket science...the memory chips at aggressive timings are not holding up. Glad that I stuck for now with my stock 1066's oc' to 1367 MHz. I had been following the page waiting for a good price...and after seeing these were deactivated, went to www.mushkin.com, and found that they ALL (Ascent line-up) are not for sale. Not out of stock---not for sale. Some FROSTBITE's still are. Interesting development, being that some other AVSIM users were having mod…

HiI am replacing my laptop and would like to get something that will play FSX with very good detail and frame rates. There are a number of laptops which have 1GB Graphics and 8GB ram but they almost all have the Core i7-720 QM which is a 1.6GHz and overclocks to 2.6GHz. Given that FSX is processor hungry will I get a good result with a laptop like this? The laptop I have in mind is a Sony Vaio F series. If you have any other suggestions for a similarly priced laptop that would be great too.

How much difference IS really there? I got a good deal from a shop, but they only have Corsair XMS3 Dominator 1600 CL8 6GB, not the CL7 - I would have to drive about 60km for that one. Does it really pay off or is it more benchmark thingie? Notice I want to OC the system a lot...

Hello all, this is my first post here, but I am no noob, except when it comes to the latest technology. I built my last system 5 or so years ago, and how things have changed! I don't understand any of it anymore.I really don't intend to mess with FSX, but just in case I decide to, I'd like to know what some of you think about this system for FSX as well. But my main focus remains on FS9. This is what I have now, roughly.AMD Athlon64 2800+ @ 1.94ghz512mb PC2700 DDR RAMGeForceFX 5200 Ultra 128MB80Gig main HDD 40Gig dedicated FS9 HDD450 Watt PSUWindows XP SP2Well, my computer took a crap, actually main HDD failure, and no means of recovering my Windows installation. This …

I just got the parts for a new computer. It's pretty much all together now, but I got an extra hard drive to add to it that is giving me troubles. It's a WD 640 GB SATA "Caviar: Black Edition" hard drive that I bought OEM. I plugged everything together in the computer and my old HD's were recognized (also WD SATA's), but this one doesn't show up anywhere. I know I could have gotten a DOA, but I suspect it's because I don't know what I'm doing for setup. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit and the motherboard is the Giga-byte GA-EX58-UD3R. Any suggestions? Thanks.

OK i'm thinking of investing in another gaming rig to replace my old Core 2 Duo E6600 machine, which runs FSX like a slideshow with settings maxed + addons. I heard that the i7 is a major improvement over the previous CPUs.My proposed rig: (cannot be changed)Core i7 8604GB DDR3GTX 250No overclockWin XPHere's my question, can I run smoothly with these parameters and what would your estimated FPS be?This is my "Ultimate FSX stress test scenario"Situation: Short Finals, Visual approach.Aircraft: PMDG 747-400X (The least optimized of the PMDG FSX addons)Airport: Any 'MegaAirport' or FSDTWX: REX with real weather, heavy convective activity with lots of cumulus clouds. At this time I have the following machine:MSI P965 NEO mainboardIntel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4 Ghz)4 GB SDRAM DDR2Geforce GTX 275600 Watt PSUWD Raptor 150 GB (Windows XP SP3 32 Bits, and FS9 installed)Normal 500 GB disk (Swapfile and data back-up)I would like to upgrade in order to run FS9 even better and slightly migrate to FSX (I have to get used to it).I have basically three questions:1. I have read you will need as much single core speed for FS9 as possible, so an Core I5-670 (3.4 Ghz) is the fastest option possible, with Turboboost in mind? I also know FSX benefits from more cores, but a Core I7 is lower clocked than the Core I5, so maybe a better choice for FSX, but no…

Yes, I know, thou shalt not sim in a laptop, but because I'm travelling a lot, I got sick and tired of my Inspiron 1420... 2.5 Kg is too heavy for me, even if I'm satisfied with its performance in FS9 (so satisfied that it was my primary FS rig). I decided to upgrade the desktop I have already and switch my laptop for a smaller, more traveller-friendly one... but still with enough horsepower for FS9 (FSX is out of question). I've seen these options so far:Dell Inspiron 11z ($619, but i can get it in Dell Colombia for COP 1'500.000)Intel Pentium 4 SU4100 1.3 GHz (dual core)4 GB RAMIntel GS 45 chipset... that means GMA 4500MHD graphics250GB HDDWindows 7 Home Premium 64-bitA…

Decision:to upgrading my CPU or my GPU - both are pretty awful (Intel E5200 CPU and PNY GeForce 7600GS GPU). What I did:Upgraded my CPU to a Q9550 and OC'd it to 3.63 GHz. I didn't even have to raise voltages or make any other adjustments. I Ran Prime95 for about 30 min to ensure it was solid. Temps remained low (upper 30s or lower 40s). I installed Windows 7 x64, FSX, WOAI traffic, Captain Sim 757, SP1, and SP2 and then I made the changes to my fsx.config and FSX settings following Nickn's guide.Result:FSX runs buttery smooth! Flying my CS 757 around Italy's Malpensa (LIMC) I get a very smooth 20 to 30 fps... emphasis on smooth. The increase in fps doesn't even explain t…

Hey guys,My Hanns G 28 inch died last night although it had been signs of going for a couple of weeks now... It started showing some "snow" or artifacts a couple of weeks ago. Best way to describe it is as noise that looked like flickering snow. I actually thought it was a driver issue and have been changing drivers chasing my tail until last night it finally went black upon boot. It would come back intermittently but is too unpredictable to use. So last night after trying the 28 on a GTX 285 and an 8800 GTX and then trying a different monitor on both cards I was able to verify the monitor was definitely the issue and not the cards or cables...So this morning like an…

I'm upgrading my computer and am down to what I think is the final decision--the motherboard. I had decided on the Asus P6X58D Premium a while ago. However, the move I've investigated the black screens and missing textures associated with PMDG (and similar add-ons) in Windows 7, Asus motherboards and their sound drivers are a very common denominator. So I looked at other options and am left with these three:1. Asus P6X58D Premium: This looks like a very good motherboard and as such I'm still considering it. I'd be heart broken if my PMDG add-ons though reverted to a series of black textures and while I see a lot of fixes that work frequently for this, none of them se…

Hi,2 1/2 years ago I've build for myself quite an enjoyable (FSX terms) rig:CPU: E6600 GPU: 320MB GTXMemory:4MB 800MHZ Mobo: ASUS P5B Deluxe Case: Gigabyte Aurora 570 PSU: Antec Neo HE 550W Cooling: Zalman CNPS9500 92MM FanOS: Win XP 32 bitI've decided its time to spoil myself and to do some upgrade and I thought about only the following components:CPU: i5-661 (will OC to >4GH)Mobo: ASUS P7P55D (I like ASUS very much)Memory: some good 4GB 1600MHZMy internal conflicts are as follows:1. Will the new combo will give me enough boost. The 661 looks like a good choice assuming easy OC above 4GH.2. Staying with the 320MB 8800 GTS card, will it become the bottleneck? I keep on…

I just added a Crucial 6gig DDR3 1066 mgz memory kit to my Gateway FX 6800-01e and the Vista system info shows 9 gig instead of the original 3. I guess that proves its working, but what difference should I notce in FSX? So far, it seems to be running the same as before, and it even crashed with a "Fatal Error FSX is Restarting" message. This message isn't necessarily memory related is it? Thanks. Tom

I'm considering switching from my current computer for FSX, which is a 2 core quad system and 4 GB RAM (Windows XP Pro, 32 bit) to putting FSX on my new machine which is an Intel i7 920 with 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I would change out my video card from a Quadro to another NVidia (likely the GTX 250?). Does anyone have experience with FSX on both machines that would allow them to make a comparison as to how much more fluid or what the effect of bumping up the sliders in FSX would be in such a move? I run addon's that include ASA, UTX, GEX and FSGenesis (and will likely add REX2). Currently the main "cutbacks" I have are the autogen is set to Normal and occasionally …

Hey everyone. I downloaded the FSX demo. I then added Flytampas St. Maarten. Flying around with the default aircraft with sliders all the way to the left I was getting around 5-10fps. With all of the sliders to the right I was getting around the same fps. There are some add ons coming out that I like so i figure now would be a good time to start using FSX also.My question is what can I do to upgrade my current system myself or am I better off just buying something pre built? Thanks in advance for any help.Specs:Hewlett-Packard Company Compaq Presario AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 984 MHz, 960 MB of RAM 1 GB Memory 250GB Hard Drive GeForce 7600GT
