I am wondering why my mouse cursor lowers FPS by about 30% when its on the screen. Anyone know why this might be? I run in windowed mode about 90% of the time.

Hello I have just finished building my new pc and I have installed FSX, as you can see from my specs I believe it to be quite good, mainly everything is ok but one of the problems I am experiencing is that I am seeing a tearing effect visually, whether i'm sat in the cockpit view or the external view. I started of by installing the latest drivers 195.62, but believing that to be the problem i went bak to 191.07 but I still seen the same thing, also, what i notice is the plane appears to have a leaping effect, as if the game has been paused for a split second and then unpaused, you mainly see this when panning around the plane in the external mode, on the odd occasion i a…

Hi Everyone,I was just wondering if I could get some advice about my machine, and how I can improve gameplay as I am an avid FSX pilot! Ideally I am looking for the best visuals that I can afford as I want to make my flight experience as realistic as possible. Reasons for this are that I will be going to Oxford Aviation Academy in a few months, and I would like to have a decent machine to practice on while im there! Here are my specs:AMD Phenom II X2 550 3.11 GHZ (not OC'd: Any advice about this would be great as I have no idea)Gigabyte MA77-UD3P Motherboard2GB Corsair DDR3 Ram250GB Toshiba HDATI HD4870 2GB SapphireTrack IR 4 PROSaitek Pro Flight YokeSaitek Throttle Quadra…

Hey, for the last 4 years I've been using a 19inch widescreen running at 1440x900 resolution. This is also the only LCD monitor I've owned. Its cheap and i only bought it cause of price. I'm now looking to upgrade to a bigger and better monitor. I know my way around computers pretty good, but have never really dealt with monitors. I would really like to get a good 23 or 23.5 inch monitor but a little worried about the performance drop going to the 1920x1080 resolution from my current one. Has anyone had a similar upgrade with similar computer specs? What kind of performance drop should I expect?I'm really debating if I should just go for the 22inch for performance …

Hi guys,Looking at buying a decent performing but not over-the-top priced notebook. Primarily it will be used for internet, office and other daily tasks, but I would like it to be able to at least run FS9 with decent performance even with average settings enabled - antialiasing etc. In terms of budget, well I would imagine in Dollars somewhere between $500 and $900. But basically what I am seeing locally available at the upper range in my budget there are Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHZ plus and a variety of graphics chips ranging from ATI Radeon HD3200 shared graphics, Intel X3100 shared graphics, Intel GMA X4500 shared graphics, Nvidia 9300M dedicated graphics and lastly Nvidia …

Hello,This is a really hard problem to describe. I am using on-board sound and I don't see any sound settings that I can change on the mobo. Maybe the guy that built the system didn't install it. I know I told him, "Don't install anything that is not absolutely necessary."Basically, I have the default windows sound adjustments and I am using headphones. With some aircraft sound, I get a swooshing sound in the background - particularly with the CLS 747. I have switched to a freeware sound but I still get this annoying background sound. It sounds as if it is trying to imitate an aircraft moving through air towards me and then away from me. I usually don't hear it when I star…

I want to double my 300gb FSX drive by adding another 300gb drive and running them in raid 0. My question is can I set this up without disturbing the data? Or do I need to either backup and restore or reinstall from scratch?

Going to built a new PC to replace my trusty but old X2 4800+ machine. Currently just use FS9, but will probably go to FSX in the near future.I budgeted myself about $2,500 CAD for the entire machine. I want this new PC to be pretty well near the top for at least the next 2 years if possible thus overclocking will be done. I also plan to split the main drive and do a dual boot with Windows 7 64-bit and XP 64-bit.The Raptor drive will be used for just FS9 and/or FSX only.Any opinions on my proposed build is greatly appreciated:1 x Antec - Nine Hundred II Gamer Case ($149.99) 1 x Intel - Core i7 Processor 920 2.66GHz w/ 8MB Cache ($329.99) 1 x Cooler Master - V8 CPU Cooler …

Hello everyone,I am helping my dad choose a new computer to play Flight Sim 9/X. I have found two machines that might be good (and at the very top of his budget) and would like views on which people think would be better. Note that one is Dell and one is Alienware. I know that building your own is better and cheaper (and that a lot of people probably hate Dell), but we don't have the kind of expertise to build ourselves. Feel free to suggest other things to buy, but in any event I'd appreciate a view on which of the two below is better for Flight Sim.System 1 - Dell Studio XPSi7 950 3.06ghz1.8gb nvidia GTX 2606gb 1067mhz DDR3 ramSystem 2 - Alienware Aurorai7 920 2.66g…

This was moved from the main MS FSX forum, as the Admin locked it up for sake of a better location. Sorry, 1st post.I mainly just run FSX but I need a faster computer. I have a Dell 8400 (Pentium 4, 3.4 Mhz), 1 GB DDR2 memory, 1 TB harddrive (recent), a 320 GB harddrive and a really nice Dell 24 IN WS monitor and a geforce 7950 GT graphics card (512 MB). I have my eye on a new i7 920, HD 4850, 6 GB memory, but, not just yet.I can buy either more memory (total of 4GB DDR2) for $80 or a better graphics card (HD 4850 or geforce 260) in the range of $135 - $150 but, not both.Question for the forum - Is this a wise choice or should I just save my money and put it toward the n…

Hi GuysI just bought a core2quad q9550 and I get very bad performance in fsx.My system was:CPU: Core 2 duo E8400 overclocked at 3,6 GHzRAM: 4 GB of at 800 MHzGPU: Radeon HD4850OS: Vista 64bit sp2FSX AccelerationWith this setup I was getting 31 fps (locked at 31 fps)Now I upgraded my cpu to a Core 2 Quad q9550 overclocked at 3.4 GHz and with the same fsx settings I get around 15-25 fps. When my previous processor was at its stock speed (3 GHz) I still had better performance than I do now. What I did was to delete my fsx.cfg and let fsx rebuild it. Afterwards I added the following tweak on my fsx.cfg but to no avail.[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=15 Considering that a q9550 is al…

So I have read many of the threads on defragging and SSD. Don't do it. Not needed. Could wear the drive out.....etc.Situation: I just reinstalled FSX after a W7 upgrade. My new hard disk layout is to have the OS on a Velociraptor and have placed FSX on its "own" drive, an OCZ 250gb. This unit has the 1.40 firmware that supports TRIM, and I have checked the W7 install to assure myself that TRIM is also present there. As might be expected, the FSX drive, when analyzed by O&O Defrag 12.??, shows a 53% fragmentation. I have done the normal "Space, Space, Name, Name" defrag on all of the other drives in the system, but have not touched the SSD. The SSD performance seems t…

I've got a laptop (MacBook Pro) running boot camp XP connected to a flat screen HDTV via the Mac's mini-display port and a HDMI adapter. I can run FSX Sp2 cloned on both screens but haven't been able to run different FSX windows on each (for instance, spot view on the HDTV and 2D cockpit on the laptop). When I change the Nvidia setup from cloned to non-cloned, all I get on the HDTV is the blank desktop wallpaper and icons. I understand how to run a dual monitor setup from a desktop computer with a dedicated graphics card with 2 outputs (VGA & DVI) but I'm not sure how to get to separate signals out with the mini-display port.I searched the fora and found no topics dea…

ok, so I have my MacBook pro 17" 3.06ghz dual core, 4gb DDR3 1066 ram, 500gb 7200rmp HD, and 512mb gddr3 video. I installed vista 32bit, inserted my stock DVD with all the drivers for vista and installed FSX and SP 1. I have tweeked the settings a bit and barly get 20fps with autogen turned WAY down, water effects low, and all settings around med. Why is this? I hear others running all maxed out on less powerful mac's with 50+fps. I have taken into account that the 32bit only allows me to use(exactly)2.78gb of ram. Anyone able to solve this? Thanx
