hi Nick, have you had any time to do some testing with the ATI5870? if so, what do u think? would u recommend it over the GTX285 for FSX?i would have posted this in the video card/drivers forum, but it seems like ur a little more active here in this forum. i plan on upgrading to Win7 later this month and will be doing a clean install. a good way/time to clean out all of the NV drivers if the 5870 is worth it.thanks for any info. u may have on this.happy flyin, FM

Within the next few weeks, I'm going to order a bunch of parts for a significant computer upgrade. It will be Core i7 - 920 setup. The only thing I not yet sure about is my graphics card. Originally I planned to retain my less than 1 year "old" Asus EN8800GT with 512MB RAM.The just announced new ATI Radeon 5770 with 1GB sounds very promissing. However, knowing how much FS9 and FSX depend on CPU power, I wonder if a new graphics card will give a significant improvement over the 8800GT I already have. If it is to be expected to only give me single-digit fps improvements, I'd rather save my money for some nice new FS addons.Any idea's about this? Thanks.Best regards,Frank

Hey guys!I've got 2500 to spend on a computer, and while browsing newegg I found what I find is a good setup. I'm not expecting like 100 fps from fsx (just a solid 20 with manhattan x and REX is all I want). The components listed below do not make a whole computer (but the computer I am on right now has good parts that I am going to use)I'm thinking of:Intel BOXDP55KG LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - RetailIntel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I7860 - RetailCooler Master Intel Core i5 compatible Hyper TX3 Socket 775/1156/AMD 130W 92mm "heatpipe direct contact" CPU Cooler RR-910-HTX3-GP - RetailAPEVIA CF12SL-UBL 120mm …

Well, i had a q6600 with an 8800GTX when I had to try a 260 GTX overclocked. It reduced the stutters, so I didn't return it, I figured if it helped and ran on my marginal power supply, (not poor quality, just 600W @ 36 amps), I'd keep the 260 GTX. 6 months went by and I ebayed the q6600 and got a q9650. I figured it was about $500 less than the parts for an i7 because I wouldn't need a power supply and new RAM and motherboard. It upped the frames significantly, but it didn't help that nagging stutter in the low-level turns with the Mustang. I tuned and tuned and read how to tune some more. but the Mustang performance was so much less than everything else that I hanga…

I have an EVGA GEForce GTX285 1GB Video Card.A Kind soul posted the following instructions which seem to work well in overclocking my card as well as the one addressed in his post:"To overclock your 9600GT you only need EVGA Precision for raise the clocks (GPU, Shader and Mem) and ATITool for testing stability. Prime is only for CPU and Mainboard overclocking and Rivatuner is not so easy to use, compared with EVGA Precision.A better and easy to use tool for testing GPU stability is FurMark, which you can download from www.guru3d.com.For overclocking your Video Card you can do the following.1. Start Precision2. Start FurMark in Window Mode not Fullscreen with MSAA set to 2…

Can I ask which of these would be best for FSX:Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black EditionBoth are similarly priced here in the UK, which is about as far as I can stretch to at the moment. I'd just like to know which gets your vote... ThanksIan

Im would like to get an idea of what would be involved or how much money would it take to build a compi already have a tower, harddrive, cd rom, dvd rom, monitor and keyboard. So im guessing i would need a motherboard, some ram, a videocard and a cpu. I was wondering what you would recommend to have a decent running fs9 all the while trying to keep the cost down. Im not looking for the best of the best but more a happy medium between cost and performance. Thanks Gerry

Hi everyone, This is my first post in the forums I'm pretty sure this subject has been spoken of before I'm in the process of upgrading my PC for fluid Fs9 frame rates. My next quest is to buy a graphics card that I will benefit from the most, My old pc ran FS9 pretty well with all sliders maxed out FS9 config tweaks Active sky6 (With Low Res Clouds) + Payware scenery & PMDG aircraft. My old system was : Athlon 64 2.0Ghz CPU + 512mb 7300GT AGP + 2Gb PC3200 RamI have now upgraded and really wish to push my FS9 that bit further, I'm not really interested in moving across to FSX to be honest I love FS9 and have a lot of payware I just don't feel like losing that …

My current system specs are in my signature. What do you think. Is this a screaming deal that I should jump on? Will a unit like this take me to 25-30FPS in the Duke or Mustang over an area like Salt Lake City? My choices are to spend the $1,000 now or wait until March when I will have ~$1,500 to spend. My system is OK now (~15FPS but fairly smooth). Here are the system specs and a link to the sale if anyone is interested.....I likely need to order today or tomorrow to get the deal.Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I currently have 2 gigs on a 32bit OS system. I'm thinking of going to a 64bit and upping my memory to 4 gigs. I currently have some medium grade 1200 memory (1x2 running at 1066). Question is, can I just buy another 1x2 set of memory of any brand and stick it in the other dual channel. I understand I'll have to run timings and clocks of the slower memory. I'm more concern about the dual channel performance. I know it's best to have matching sticks in dual channel to get the most out of it, but does that apply to matching sticks across all the slots, or just dual? Should I just get brand new 2x2 memory?

Hello,I was doing a clean boot before a flight by turning off all non MS services.I forgot to check exclude MS service resulting in everything being turned off including my RAID service. Any idea how to get the system back on? I think I have done this before and I know there is a way. I just can't remember what I did last time.

First some background...I'm running a Pentium4 3.4 with 2GB RAM, TH2G monitors with a nvidia 8600GT. Yes, it's an ancient system! I received a free copy of FSX at the AVSIM conference right after the launch of FSX, but have kept it on the shelf unopened waiting for the time to arrive for a cost effective system that would run FSX with near max sliders and smoothly without studders. Obviously I've been very patient throughout the Duo2 series knowing they were good, but not quite the full potential without paying high-end prices and playing the rotational upgrade game as new CPUs were introduced.Quite happily, I'm reading reports the i7 is the series to run to get the most …

Guys,Yet another question about the optimum choice I am trying to make for a new rig. I've been browsing this forum and lots of others, reading with lots of interests posters, googling, asking advises to my retailer prior to my order etc, and found lots of informations but I still cant figure. Especially because many posts know deals with rigs for FSX.I am an fs9 user and dont plan on FSX anytime soon. I'm aiming at an Q9550 which FSB is 1333. I run WinXP Home 32bit SP2.I came to the conclusion that some DDR2 667 PC5300 would make it for 1:1 ratio (no OC for me), especially for a non 64bit OS, yet I still doubt. I know XP32 wont make a full use of all 2*2Gb I want to inst…

Since FS9 and FSX is so CPU dependent, can it handle dual cpu's? I got to thinking would it be better to buy a motherboard that handles two i7 920s (for example), or buy a board that can handle the i7 975 extreme?Want to run three either 24" to 27" LED monitors perhaps with that new ATI 5800 series card with Eyefinity. What do you think would give better performance?thx,Clutch

Hi all,Im looking at upgrading my E6600 to either a higher speed Dual (E8500) or a Quad (Q9550). I use both FS9 and FSX and don't have many problems with FS9, but would like to improve FSX as much as i can. My current spec is:Asus P5QL PRO CORE 2 DUO E6600 OCZ PC2-5400 4-4-4-12 2GB KIT ASUS HD4890 1GB GDDR5 WIN XP PRO SP3 2x SATA HDD's (nothing special) Im sticking with XP and im not into overclocking, so any other advice is welcome ;-)Are either of my choice CPU's worth it? And would i benefit from upgrading my RAM from 667mhz to 1066mhz (PC2-8500)?ThanksMataus
