Folks,I am a novice hardware guy with a 5 yr old homebuilt PC looking to upgrade my system to be able to run FS9 and ROF smoothly, with the unrealistic (?) goal of most sliders max'd. I currently run FS9 with UT, BEV, and some FSGenesis locked at 28 FPS, and run into slideshow effects in dense metro areas flying birds like the RealAir Scout and Wings of Power warbirds, etc. I really need advice here, and know that I will have to buy a new graphics card, memory, and upgrade the processor, at the very least. Also, is it best to go AMD or Intel? My current basic specs are:AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ 1 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 6800 256 MBXP Pro 5.1 SP3Thaks for any advice…

Hello1st of all big thanks to all posters on this forum and to Nick N for his guide. It was a combination of the above that made me buy a I7 set up for FSX.And so far I am well happy with it.My 2 questions are1 I have enabled Vsynch as per the guide provided by Nick N. Refrence Nhancer, My Dell2407 monitor has a refresh rate of 60hz but some times FSX goes over 100FPS.According to the guide it should not go over the refresh rate of the monitor. PLease see pics bleow of Nhnancer set up and screen shots in game of higfh FPS. Am I losing peformance because of this and any suggetsions on how to fix would be great.2I would say I am 95% happy with the performance of FSX it is pr…

Memory cardI am going to get my new PC after Window7 comes out, I see these different numbers in various memory cards. What do these numbers mean and what is the difference these make in FSX.7-7-7-208-8-8-249-9-9-24What do I have to take in to account with the memory card when I get my PC custom built for me.Not being an expert in computer technology I want to avoid altering my default set-up.Christiaan

Obviously, yes a new pc. But what would I need to do to run this scene at a minimum of 20fps and no stutters? Crisp textures are also a must.FEX, UTX USA, Jim Vile's KMSP afcad, and F1's Mustang in the VC. Could a core i7 clocked do 20+ fps?

Hi everyoneMy computer died and I have been researching what to upgrade to. I have decided to wait until Windows 7 becomes available in Oct and thought that the i7 920+OC certainly seems the way to go at the moment. My question is that the top of the line i7 is currently the 975 - is there likely to be any further development in the i7 series or is there likely to be a new series of processor and motherboards to follow shortly. If there is a totally new series i figure the i7 975 might drop quite a bit in price. Would i be better to grab the i7 920 now or wait till the next big thing surfaces so i can pick up the 975 at a more realistic price? I have never OC'd a com…

Since my new build I experience some issue's if I wanna overclock my Core i7 920, I cannot have a stable boot with a higher BCLK then 180. I did all kind of experiments with voltages, but no luck. Today I did try to higher the timings of my RAM to 8 instead of 7. With this setting I can clock up to 3,9Ghz, but I remember clearly the explanation from Nick about memory timing, when I fire up FSX I do get a little higher framerates but also the occasional stutters (I don't know if it is the same or worse), but too high timings are not good for FSX I guess since I use a lot of photoreal textures. Should I buy some better RAM too get a better performance or should i change som…

Hi,After waiting almost a month for my replacement memory from Corsair, I got them yesterday. I ran memtest and got the following.Unless I'm doing something wrong, these will be going back to Corsair as well. I cannot believe they sent me the same version as the ones I returned (Ver. 2.1).

Hello, When you are doing an overclock, you will more than likely have to adjust Vcore depending on the CPU and the amount of overclock. When folks refer to the Vcore values, are they talking about the values in the bios, or what it shows in CPU-Z or OCCT?

Hi,I was lucky enough to catch my wife in a good mood and she authorized a new computer for FS. I fly FS9 now but would like to try FSX. I fly mostly DC-3's low and slow so FSX may work for me.I have no expertise when it comes to hardware, so I've come here for help. I discussed the situation with a local computer store. The specs from their quote are listed below.Frontier black mid-tower, Quad Core AMD64bit 2.6GHZ processor, 4GB RAM DDR3,1 TB hard drive, 300GB 10K Raptor HD,DVDRW, 19 in 1 card reader, Nvidia 9800GTPCI-E video card, sound, 10/100/1000ethernet, MS keyboard, optical mouse, andspeakers, 550W power supply Windows XPPro, 3 year parts and 1 year labor warra…

While my current E6600 based system has served me and FS9 well, I am now about to upgrade to an i7 based system. This is what I am about to order:Mobo Asus P6T Deluxe V2CPU Intel Core i7 920 with a Noctua H-C12P on top of thatCorsair Dominator Intel Core i7 6GB Kit PC3-12800, 1600MHz, 3x240 DIMM 6GB Kit(3x2048MB)I will at the moment keep my MSI 8800GT OC video card and see in what price range the ATI5800 series will end up (or I might go for the ATI 4890 since it's so cheap). My question really is, while I intend to keep my Samsung F1 1TB as the OS disk would the Velociraptor 300 GB or a OCZ Vertex Series SATA II 2.5" SSD be the better choice for running FSX on? The SSD dis…

Hi,My computer is stable @ 4.2 Ghz and the temps are ok for a 965 revision C0/C1 air cooled. But to maintain this stability I have to leave the QPI/DRAM core voltage on AUTO when I see most of the o/c with this value at 1.35.Is there any problem (=danger) letting the computer fix the QPI/DRAM voltage or should I lower my o/c until this value is at 1.35 volts? My specs on my signature. Thanks in advance!
