As described above. I ordered FS2004 today, and also bought a GeForce 9800GT 512 MB card with the newest drivers installed. I have a pentium 4 at 3Ghz(I know) and 3GB DDR ram. I get around 10-12 FPS on extremely high settings. However, with this set up I was expected to clearly run it perfectly. The graphics are also choppy and the game stutters. I have no idea what's wrong, is the CPU being a bottle neck? I didn't think it would be that big of a problem. I'm assuming FS2004 will also run slow. Can anyone help me fix the performance?Screen shots can be posted of the graphics if wanted

My computer is two years old. I ordered it installed with XP32. Back in January I upgraded to VISTA64. My BIOS are at 608. Latest BIOS are at 1403. Would you install the latest BIOS? Would this help increase performance in FSX? Or, are BIOS updates just fixes for minor technical inconveniences? I'm trying to better wrap my head around whether I should update or not. I know there are certain risks. If I do update and it causes problems, I don't know how and if you could revert back to a previously installed version. Your thoughts are appreciated ...

Previously I have used mapped setups with the CH Contol Manager and/or cmfsv100 Manager Utility.I just upgraded my computer including win XP Pro 64 bit. I am being unsuccessful in implementing the map routine as I have done in the past. I don't know if it is because it is not compatible with the 64 bit system, or just that it has been so long since I previously set the system up that I have forgotten something and the problem is me.Therefore, I have gone to the FSUIPC setup for my yoke and footpedals. Is there a function in FSUIPC similar to the shift function in the CH Control Manager that allows one to double the joystick button functions. I am overlooking this option i…

I presently use multiple monitors connected to dual video cards, sometimes three, sometimes four.I have a second computer that is sitting idle on a garage shelf since my last round robin upgrade (mine, my wife's, then my daughter's - bet you know the routine). I don't remember exactly what the specifications are, but feel sure it would be fully adequate for WideFS purposes.I have considered bringing the unused computer down and implementing it on my secondary monitors with WideFS, however if I understand correctly secondary windows integral to MSFS cannot be used in this way, only programs running outside of FS.A secondary question in the two computer implmentation is, is…

I currently have a system built around an Intel 8400, 4 GB of RAM, and Windows XP. I recently overclocked the CPU to 4Ghz with underwhelming results. Yes, there seems to be a few FPS increase but not much. My new videocard is a Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512Mb. The new videocard upped my FPS 1 to 2 per second at the most. Can any of you computer experts take a look at my specs below and make any suggestions based on my hardware

Hey guys, I have looked around for a similar post but not found anything I wanted, besides, I want to know if this exact system will be able to fly primarily FS9 with brilliant frames (anything above 20, for me) and FSX with good frames, and stutters unnoticeable, with all the bells and whistles and sliders at least at a good looking level...I am trying to replace my current old (Windows 98!!!), slow, noisy, rusty and generally quite crap system for a brand spanking new one and this one fits the bill pretty well, especially at this price! :( What do you think? Here's their intro to it, with some specs:"Envizage present this brand new custom built AMD Phenom Quad Core 99…

Hello guys. While waiting for my new rig's parts to arrive (sometime next week), I've decided to revisit a long standing issue on my current PC, hopefully with you guy's help.I notice a considerable FPS drop only when my mouse cursor is visible in the VC of more demanding complex aircraft. I can keep a steady 30 fps, but when I move the mouse, I'm down as low as 15-20 fps. Oddly enough, I can open a 2d panel (ie. the FMC), hover over the panels' window, and FPS is restored. This, of course, is especially noticeable in heavy clouds/AI traffic/scenery. I also never have the issue with other sims I use.I'm using the Saitek X52, Logitech LX7 cordless mouse, and Trackir5.…

I'm starting to think about a new rig. I am NOT going to build it. I want to buy a store-bought or internet-bought system. Which CPU, Video Card, RAM, HDD, Monitor, etc......would you buy in the next few months (if you know of something coming out soon) if this was what you wanted to do.I know the advantages of building the system, but I want a guarantee, home service if necessary, and other benefits associated with buying from a manufacturer. Please advise me of the system you would buy if you felt the way I do.Stan

Its a refub but it seems like a heck of a great entry level into I7 for people like me who hate to build computers out side of installing ram or a video card.http://www.compusa.com/applications/Search...017&CatId=6

I've been saving a sort of fund to build a new computer. I've been eying the Gigabyte GAX58 Extreme and the I7 975. The question is not so much should I upgrade, but rather should I wait for the next big thing. I'm planning on actually building the computer in the next 4 months. To the mods: As the other hardware threads are more troubleshooting related, I figured this was an OK place to post :(

I currently have a system built around an Intel 8400, 4 GB of RAM, and Windows XP. I recently overclocked the CPU to 4Ghz with underwhelming results. Yes, there seems to be a few FPS increase but not much. My videocard is a couple of years old and is a Nvidia 8800 GTS 320Mb. I have my videocard settings at 1600x1200. How much improvement would I see on an overclocked i920? I know I would have to purchase new motherboard (I have my eye on an ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX) and 6 to 12 Gb of DDR3 RAM, but that would be okay. I'd go with a Vista 64 with an upgrade coupon to Windows 7.But what kind of improvement would I, and others like me, see? Thanks,RH (an unhappy E840…

Lots of good comments about 3x2GB Mushkin Redline 998729 6-6-5-18-1T and similar timings just lately. But not available in the UK, least not as far as I can find? Any ideas on that welcome, of failing that availabilty in Europe? All that I can find is a few older DDR2 units.ThanksSimon

Since the last thread about memory contained some very interesting info about stuff not related to RAM, I thought I'd start a new thread on what I find to be another interesting topic:Computer case thermodynamicsMy questions:1) I see a lot of case manufacturer's putting a place for the PSU on the bottom of the case. What are the benefits of this?2) How does the air move about inside a case, what changes with side/front/top intake/blow fans - do side fans help?3) How to choose which fans blow and which ones suck?4) Also related, how do you know which HSF is best for your CPU, and will it fit your case?

To carry another post I made in a thread not pertaining to this, and to keep from hijacking: Anyone familiar with the Thermalright IFX-14? I ordered it one this evening for a new build I'm making. My question is: There's a split heat sink, which looks pretty neat. I've ordered one 120mm fan to pull air through it, but I'm curious if I can fit one 120mm between each sink, instead of on one side. I believe this could move air through the sink a little more efficiently (at least for a single fan set up).

It is a pity that there are so few head-to-head tests for FSX. I am not well qualified to do this sort of thing, not least because I lack the patience for it. But I did some mind-numbingly dull tests myself last night. Basically I recorded a Bell helicopter flight over Manhattan with inadvisedly high settings and used "replay video" with the RAM at different speeds. I used FRAPS to record the FPS etc for the first 180 seconds. This is on an i7 975 with 6Gb of RAM rated for 2000 7-7-7-20. The GPU is a GTX 285 factory-clocked to 702MHz. The i7 was clocked at BCLK 133 with a 33 multiplier giving a CPU speed of 4410MHz. The exception is the 1987MHz RAM test, for which I had t…

Hello all,My story is a familiar one. When I first bought FSX nearly 4 years ago my system was, whilst one of the best going around, sadly inadequate. Then two years ago I built my dream system. A Q6600 2.4 gig quad core CPU in a Striker Extreme mobo with 4 gig of RAM and topped it off with an 8800 GTX. Loaded up FSX and the tears nearly started flowing. I had given ASUS and Nvidia 2 whole years to catch up but you all know the rest. Now another two years have passed. I am now thinking (with some trepidation) of going again. This time an i7 950 CPU, 6 gig of ram (3 x 2) and a 285GTX. Is this $1700 Australian going to give me any significant improvement or will I be reachi…

Hello everyone, first post for me but a long time follower of these boards! I could really use the help of some of you Hardware Gurus... but first some background:I have reached the point were I need a new rig for FSX. The problem is that I live in the Middle East and there is nothing available here that comes even close to the specs required to run FSX properly. My only option is to order something abroad. I have searched all the high end manufacturers and the only one that ships internationally is Alienware (through their European division). Keep in mind I am unable to assemble a system myself (and there is no one here that I trust to do it) so ordering the components s…

Anyone know what causes this and a fix. I know it's either driver related or hardware. I am using an X-FI Xtreme Audio card with 5.1 and on some of the payware planes with digitized sounds it gets pretty bad. Would appreciate any feedback.
