Hi,Since I have overclocked today my I7-920, I wanted to monitor the temperature for a while during a FS2004 flight.I used the 'Core Temp' application which writes a log of the 4 core temps and the 4 core loads. The temps were OK, about 52C for the whole 2.5 hr flight. The core utilization however was between 48%-50% for core1, 0% core2, 0% core3 and 2-3% core4I'm a bit puzzled by this.... Shouldn't the core1 load be 100%? :( Or should I change another setting in the BIOS?EgbertP.S. I also used OCCT for a stress test and there all 4 core were utilized for 100%. Also temp rose to 64C (which is still below the 67.9C)

When you allow nHancer to control the AA, (with FSX's AA checkbox unchecked), does that mean that the driver is antialiasing the clouds also?

Hi all,There's a lengthy dicussion of soundcards and texture issues over in the PMDG forum and got me thinking about performance.Back in the FS8 and FS9, it was believed that adding a 3rd-party soundcard such as the Creative X-Fi brands, that have their own on-board audio processor, would offload the cycles from the CPU. Remember, every cycle counts, and that part is still true today. So with today's systems such as the i7-line, is it still considered beneficial to add a good sound processor to a PCI or PCIe slot and shutoff the on-board audio processor in the BIOS? I recently removed my Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Pro PCI board and turned on the MB SoundMax audio, and I c…

Currently using an ASRock old board that got me from AGP to PCIE and 180 pin memory to 240 pin memory over time. Was nice bridge to new hardware at the time. Now would like to get a new board but since my lo-budget philosophy is to stay at least one "generation" behind i7 and $300 boards are not in my arena. Currently use Dualcore e4400 clocked from 2ghz to 2.5ghz. Video is nVidia 8600/256mb, memory is 2gb-800. Note- motherboard only capable of PCIe at 4x. Probably a factor.FSX performs well so long as I stay out of NYC. By well - medium clouds, no traffic, medium view distance, 1x water. 20 to 30fps.Want to retain my DDR2 800 memory, CPU and video card. Will replace them…

Hi all - great to be back in the hardware forum....While we were away, I performed an upgrade to my FSX boxes (below). NickN helped me perform an easy overclock with my new i7-920 (d0 stepping) proc and I am now running FSX like never before and stable @ 4Hhz with a bit of room to spare. The BIOS settings and a bit of my experience can be found in the thread linked at the end of my sig below, titled "i7-920 OC BIOS Settings". You can also find all of NickN's other valuable tutorials in the last line of my sig below as well.

I have a computer set up in a SATA configuration using an nVidia stripe and wanted to add a hard drive from another computer that is due to be retired, this will save me considerable time and effort in having to transfer data over to the existing SATA HD. I was hoping to add it and have the HD recognized, having done it in the past on another computer it was as simple as plgging in the data ribbon and power and it was recognized by XP as a new drive After rebooting I checked in "My Computer" and the drive I added was not visable. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,Rob

I'm planning to upgrade my computer from C2Q to i7 in the quest of getting smoothly running FSX. I'm using lots of 3rd party addons like PMDG/LVLD/leonardo planes, RC4, Traffic X and FSGenesis meshes, which dont really help getting better performance. I'm getting kinda OK performance currently in 2D cockpits, but I'm also considering getting TrackIR 4 and moving to 3D ones and that doesn't really help FSX run any smoother. My current system is following:Q9450 OCed @ 3.2GHzAbit IXQuadGT motherboard4*1GB G.Skill 800MHz memsGTX280Zalman ZM850-HP PSUFSX running on cheap&big(&slow) HD32bit XPUpgraded hardware would be:i7 950 (OCed as high as it goes)Scythe Mugen 2 CPU C…

I am using the above for the main forward view. Would I need a PC for each monitor or would it be sufficient to run the above rig and add the extra 2 monitors to an additional PC with dual vid output?ThanksGraham
