Hello Gang,It is great to have AVSIM back online. It was a shock not to be able to go here first thing in the morning like I had for the past several years to lurk and see what was going on in the MSFS world. I have a chance to swap out my CPU and ram for very little cost so I need to know if it might make much difference in FSX FPS. I have a Asus P5K motherboard, Vista 64 Home OS, 4g of 1066 mg ram (don't know what kind), Nvidia 9800 GTX Superclocked + graphics card and an Intel Q6700 (default clocking at 2.66). If I make the swap I will be exchanging the Q6700 for a Q9550 and replacing the ram with 4gig of the 1333 version with a heat sink (so I am told). Is there likel…

I have a home cockpit setup for FSX which has been running for a while now on a three year old computer. I'm planning to have a new system built to replace this computer and am hoping to get some additional horse power out of the simulator. The simulator is setup with four monitors running off of two video cards - one LCD for the instrument panel gauges and three 20" CRTs for the external view. I have customized the 2D external views for forward, forward/right 30deg, and forward/left 30deg. The simulator has a enclosure and all of the controls of a Cessna 172 have been wired up through a keyboard encoder. Below are the specs for the computer I am proposing to buy to repla…

  17. Hello to all the experts!I was reading this forum now for several days. A lot of expertise and advice but finally I still have some questions. What I have:My current system is 5 years old and not worth to discuss - it will be replacedFS9 is installed with LVLD767 and some add-on sceneries. When FSX came to the market I bought it immediately, but never installed because of my crappy HW - high time to start with. OS is XP-Professional.What I aim for:A system for primarily FS9 use and step by step (slowly) transition to FSX. I am using 2 monitor (2D view) and a second laptop (WideFS) for com, ASv6 and my homecockpit SW (SIOC).I learned quite a lot from this forum about new s…

For Nick N and other gurus: A couple months back, there was a thread on performance improvements that could be achieved by using an add-on SATA controller card, instead of using one's built-in mobo controller. I notice that the Egg is running a couple specials on SATA controller cards right now, but both are PCI and if I remember correctly our forum experts said a PCI-e would be needed to achieve the desired throughput. I'm about to do a new build (specifically for FSX) and I'm wondering if I should purchase a relatively inexpensive PCI-e SATA controller card to improve my overall HDD performance? I'm eventually hoping to add a VelociRaptor to my rig. If the type of S…

Hi Guys, I am currently looking for a new Pc that will allow me to run FSX really well. I currently have to make do with FS9 as my setup is quite old. I would like to future proof the new system as much as possible, but do not want to go down the road of overclocking as my computer knowledge is limited. I am currently looking at the I7 processors and depending how the money goes, either a 920 or 940. The question I want to ask is, should I go for a 1Tb conventional HD or a 150Gb velociraptor. What would be more beneficial bearing in mind the computer would be used almost exclusively fo FSX. Also I see that DDR3 memory comes in 1333 and 1600Mhz. Would I be wasting my hard …
