Probably more a a software issue but I am not sure where else to post this question. When I defrag using the windows defrag tool I get a messge that not all files could be defragmented. I look at the report and it doesnot identify what file it is. This has happened in the past and it usually tells me what file it is and I can delete it and then the defrag gives me no error. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this without too much technical know how or anything short of deleteing all of msfs. By the way thats all I play on this computer. Thanks Andrew

Hi guys,I just downloaded ultimate defrag and its hard to underestand. I selected FSX scenery files for high performance. Then I did my defrag under file/folder option. However, there are tons of fragmentated files after the defrag stops. I am just lost on how to use this software. Can anyone help? Should I do Auto defrag then do file folder?

A few months ago I looked at a video card roundup review at SimHQ.com and it showed that a GTX 280 was much faster than a 4870x2 in FSX and that the ATI cards used were slower than the Nvidia cards in FSX. I currently have an 8800 Ultra and was thinking of upgrading to a 4870 x2 or a GTX 280 and selling my 8800 Ultra but don't want FSX performance to drop. I also play other PC games. Has the performance of the 4870x2 improved in FSX with later driver releases to at least the levels of Nvidia or is it still much slower than a GTX 280 in FSX?

This is to let everyone know that I am going to be tied into the home stretch of of the GEX Europe release and really do not have time for system tech support. My time in posting technical for system hardware is going to be very limited for some weeks while Anthony and I wrap up the release of GEX Europe. I will monitor threads that I currently have open assistance in progress but unless I see something really out of whack I wont be spending much time answering questions.Thank you for understanding

  12. Hi, After trying unsuccessfully to figure out the root of my FS9 instability problems, i.e., FS9 "failed to read from file" type errors (via filemon util and various suggestions by other simmers), I ran a last ditch check on my CPU (Pentium 4 3.00 GHz) running temps and found out the following:Is this a normal operating scenario? I have opened up the computer and all fans are working, or at least they are moving. Should I buy a replacement fan for the CPU? Any ideas? I belive this is the cause of my problems as the FS9 errors have only recently started cropping up (hardware getting old...). Any help would be appreciated. Regards,Macs.P.S.: I am not overclocking the com…

Let me tell you my story.Disclaimer: I don't really need a new keyboard. (but I just bought a mouse, the logitech G5 - that I also don't need, nother story)Mu current KB is a logitech PS2, no backlighting, very basic etc, prolly 10 bucks off newegg a while back. The other day on a whim (without any research), I ran out to BB (first mistake) and bought a Saitek Cyborg:Cyborg KeyboardI thought, "ooooh this is l33t, all the pretty lights, which can be customized for different areas of the physical kb." Mind you the purchase was about 95 dollars for the keyboard plus tax.Today I realized that I'm a moron for spending NINETY FIVE dollars on a KB!! What the deuce?…

  15. Has anybody tried this?http://www.fspilotshop.com/product_info.ph...products_id=954http://www.edimensional.com/product_info.p...products_id=118Is it there any advantage comparing it with a standard gamepad? I mean, when using the motion control, can I use the 2 sticks for other things (one for rudder and something else, and the other one for the hat switch) or the left stick is just a backup of the motion control for when I'm tired of it? I'm thinking about getting a gamepad for when I have to travel with my laptop and I have to leave my joystick at home, and this seems interesting. What do you think? Thanks in advance.Best regards from ColombiaLuis Miguel

  17. hi Nick, the new i-7 system is up & running. i don't have everything installed yet and no o/c yet. i thought i'd wait a few days & see how things go first. i don't know if this is an indication of a prob. right off the bat (hope not). in Device Mgr. the SM Bus Controller is listed as an "unknown device" with a "yellow bang & yellow question mark" next to it as well as System Interrupt Controller (6 times with that one). according to the Release Notes for the latest Intel Chipset Update the X58 chipset is not supported. is this the reason for the "yellow bangs" mention aboved? is this a result of Intel moving away from the FSB and the chipset update is no long…

Hey folks just wondering if anybody has any ideas on a sound video issue I'm having, this could be as easily posted in a forum so forgive me, I just don't know what kind of issue it is. I run an 8800gt, e8400 cpu, Asus P5KE-Wifi and 2 gig Kingston RAM. I also run flight sim , and this is pretty much the only reason I have a PC. For the last few months now when 3D graphic rendering is occurring the sound just crackles like mad, and the frames in the flight sim go to single figures. This would usually be solved by turning PC off for a while and turning back on. But its not heat related. Now the problem is constant. Even when playing a CD or mp3 in windows media player, it p…

I have a strange problem with Speedstep technology: It can't be turned off anymore. I disabled it in the BIOS (P5Q by Asus), I set energy saving mode in the os (Vista 64 Ultimate) to "waste all energy you have" *g* - the CPU is still steppd down from 3.24 overclocked to 2.28 pretty often. This(?) results in endless loading times for FSX. It takes a minute or more before even the first CPU picks up, and sometimes it takes 6 minutes from starting FSX to dislaying the scenery. It's a pretty new behaviour with my system - it hasn't been that way all the time. When FSX is running, there is no speed loss at all, though.I am at the brink of installing everything again, since I fi…

If you could pick an OS to run FS9 and FSX what would it be? I'm looking at a replacement system with 12GB DDR3 RAM and intel i7 extreme overclocked to 3.6Ghz--2x ATI Radeon HD 4870 (2GB) GPU, etc.I ran FS9 exclusively with the Alienware and Win XP Home 32-bit and 4GB RAM (though it was limited to 2GB), Nvida GX2 7950, and an AMD FX-60 CPU, and was very happy with the performance. I dabbled in FSX early on but was disappointed with low FPS with add-on weather (AS6.5), lack of addon complex aircraft, etc.…

Hi all,Almost pulled the trigger on a new i7 920 CPU, MB, and RAM this morning until I read that some people are still getting c0 stepping CPUs from Newegg. Some believe the Memphis and NJ warehouses are now shipping D0 exclusively but not CA. I wonder how much longer, if any, I should wait? Also, I'm considering the Asus P6T SE MB instead of the LGA or deluxe v2 models because I use a PCIe HD controller and PCI Audio, so I don't care about onboard matrix or audio capabilities. I only need one LAN adapter. Otherwise the two boards seem the same unless I'm missing something. Do you think the BIOS overclocking capabilities on the SE board could be limited in some way as…
