I love my new case that I just got. Its an Antec 300.I had been looking at new computer parts for a while now and considering different upgrade routes (core2 duo,quad,phenom,i7). I was very happy to see the Phenom II come out and get god reviews. I havent actually installedFSX yet on the new machine so this isnt about CPU performance or any of that.Ive done an 'accidental upgrade'. Thats when you buy a MB an intend to use it one way but then circumstances changedand I decided to go a different route. I hope it works out. Time will tell.So...my new MB is an ASUS M3A78-cm and on it is a Phenom II 940 with 4Gig of Kingston KVR DDR2 800. If the motherboard holds up (an…

Hi , I would like to try and clarify my understanding of the above. From reading as many posts and discussions here as I can find here on the subject, I will summarise the situation as I see it , with any questions I have regarding the point following. I would appreciate if then anyone can confirm my understanding as correct and answer my queries if possible. This set up is purely for FSX. I have approx 250GB of photoscenery. 1) I have a 150GB raptor, partitioned into 3, with my dual boot O/S's on 2 of the partitions and the 3rd used as a normal drive. My question regarding this is: Is this a less than ideal set up? I read from Nick that you should never partion a perfor…

I know that NYC is not fps friendly. I'm between 20-25 fps with my e6850 @3.49 and 8800ultra (182.50 DRIVERS)I would like to get 30-40 fps.I was wondering if the i7 with very dense setting (not cars etc) I love the scenery, can achieve 30-40 fps?If you're overclocking please let me know. Post specs. Thanks so much.Jose

Strange problem that I have never noticed before. When I'm using complex add-on aircraft and intense weather (straining my system in other words) I get a steady 35fps(locked) until i press the open ATC window button. Immediately fps drops to 18-22 for about 10 seconds, that goes back up to a steady 35. This repeats everytime i open the ATC window.Anyone experience this before? any solutions? Really annoying when 1000agl on ILS in a 737 in IMC conditions and fps drops everytime you open ATC.System:e8500 at 3.42 gig DDR28800GTS 512

Hi Guys Apologies for the essay butI would be extremely grateful of any ideas on the following. Having simmed for a few years now, constantly upgrading hardware to accommodate the increasing complexity and realism of add-on scenery and aircraft etc, I still find that frame rate hit is still a problem in FSX. Even though I do 'totally max out' FS9 with excellent performance and no degradation in frame rates, FSX, even with all of the patches and fixes still suffers stuttering frame rates or hardware slow down even with settings set to normal. Sometimes even freezing totally, requiring a re-boot to free the system up. As a consequence of this frustrat…

Ok so on FSX, I like EVERYTHING high, not just ultra settings, but everything maxed out. I like reality. Anyway, everything MAXED out runs great in scenic areas, but the second I go into LAX or JFK, it lags quite a bit. My specs are:XFX 9800GTX+ 512mb AMD Q9550 2.2ghz (quad, for my multitasking)8gb's of memory(4-2gbs)vista home prem. 64bit and etc. Now, I here this game likes a good cpu, and doesnt take advantage of SLI?So with that SAID, my question is, should I upgrade the CPU? or GPU?. I can spend about 200 dollars, and that's it.What do you guys suggest? I'd like a smooth FPS when flying through Los Angeles or New York, with settings maxed out. Thanks guys, any suggesti…

Right now my only bottle neck is the monitor resolution but other wise in areas that count as the middle of nowhere ... no major city I can let those sliders sit on almost max everything. I got water textures up to full but drop those down to around mid 1x when in a major area ... NYC/London etc, same with Autogen going down to dense from extremely dense or max with Nick N's tweaks..Traffic is at 60/60; Airport Vehicles Medium or on occassion I bring it just a lil more, Boats on both to 100/100. Currently flying LevelD over the middle of nowhere in VC with frames in the 50's. Believe it or not I do run with HT enabled and things run smoothly....though I dunno about the 30…

My current system is struggling with system memory and needs upgrading. I have an:ASUS M/board with an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU,2.21 GHz 2GBs RAMA BFG GTX260 GPU2 SATA Hard drives. 80Gbs C drive and D drive 160GbsTAGAN TG700-BZ PSU. I am looking to change the m/board and CPU, the problem is I have over 26Gbs of FS9 on my current C dive. Is there an easy way of moving this onto a new larger C drive that I will purchase with the upgrade? I thought I could just add the existing drives to the new m/board etc and crack on, but apparently not as WinXP would be unstable. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone, FSX runs pretty well on my system with settings maxed out. However, I have been finding a few FPS issues in bad weather (at times) and at Imaginesim KLGA. Other scenery addons have good FPS. Could anyone give me some suggestions on whether this system needs to be upgraded or not, or some settings that could be changed? Thanks.System Specs: Vista 64 bit, FSX Acceleration, HP m9500y, AMD Phenom 9750 Quad Core Processor, 8 GB RAM, nvidia geforce 9500

Hi, I was considering upgrading my chip to a 9650, as I have heard that they overclock better than the 9450. I was also considering another gtx280, running in SLi mode with my original card and a SSD. Is any of these ideas going to get me some good results? In particular is the 2nd card a good idea? I know Nick says that dual core cards are not utilised well by FSX, so how about SLI? I have read some great test reviews on conventional games for 2 280's in SLi. I am just desperate for a fast, reliable installation of FSX. My present set up is ok, but still getting some issues which I dont know yet are set up related or not. Any opinions etc would be gratefully received, th…

Hello Firstly apologies if this subject has been flogged to death elsewhere.Basically whilst defragging with O & O (by the way make sure you have the lastest updated version before you use as I found a bug similar to Ver 10, as in the defrag takes weeks!),Windows reported a SMART error with the Hard drive.DMA Mode 5 status BAD.It suggested a back up as the drive is failing. When I ran checkdisk no fault was found. But now every time boot up the SMART error appears during POST with the option to contiue by pressing F1.Could I be getting a false report here or should I take notice? The Drive is a Samsung F1 spinpoint 750 GB and it's not really had much use but on checkin…

Does FS9 take advantage of the extra cores of the i7 or quads currently available or is it just purely on clock speed?

Question for you who are more network-savvy than me:What could cause internal IP's to change?I have two networked boxes, and about every 3-4 months their internal IP's change on me. (This always gives ASA problems when it happens)

Well over the weekend a built a new rig, and loaded up FSX with SP1 and SP2.OH MY LORD!!!!!!! I had to get a mop and bucket!!!!I built a Phenom II x4 based system, and the performance is out the window!Specs:AMD Phenom II x4 3GHzASRock A780GXE/128M MotherboardOCZ Platinum PC8500 running at 800MHz (8Gb)MSI 9800 GT-OC 512MbRunning WinXP Pro x64I flew the stock 744 into LAX with EVERYTHING MAXED OUT. And I do mean EVERYTHING!Averaged 20fps. Lowest I was was 16, Highest was 31!I have finally moved on from FS9, as it's performance was lower than FSX, simply due to no multi-thread/core support. FSX has finally lived up to it's promise, although it took 3 years for the hardware …

If you have read some other posts by yours truly recently . . . sorry for the lengthy prelude!I bought a brand new Dell 2209WA 22" 1680 x 1050 e-IPS panel display. It's excellent for what it is, but I am not happy with the degradation in image sharpness over my Samsung 204B 21" 1600 x 1200 flat panel which died recently. The great news is Samsung gave me a FULL REFUND, after 2.6y of use. They don't have any more to send me, so they refunded my purchase. Actually, they sent me a replacement but I wouldnt accept it with its . . . 7 dead pixels, and one stuck red pixel! I still have it and am awaiting a return shipping ticket. I used the new Dell for several days, the…

To make what could be a long post short, here are the important details. In FS9 I can only manage about 20 fps at major airports using add-on scenery such as Imagine Sim's offerings with resolution set to 1280x1024, and all settings max except some weather related ones (set lower to more realistic values) including 100% AI Traffic, nHancer set to 16xS AA and 16x AF. I feel as though I should be getting more judging by the experiences of others. I also experience heavy shimmering, especially of AI aircraft textures. I have tried different AA settings but the jaggies on my plan are completely gone by 8x. Also I do use AS6 for real world weather as well as SmoothAI and some …
