As we all know FSX can give top systems hernia. So my question is this; Should I go with Q9550 or new I7 920? My understanding is that I7 allows for more overall bandwidth which FSX so desperately needs, but you have to get more expensive RAM and motherboard for it. (the processors both cost about the same). Does it make sense to go with I7? Any noticeable performance increase? Also this is my first build. Is it advisable for a first timer to try their hand on over clocking?

Apparently PNY no longer makes their XLR8 DDR2 240 Pin 1066 Mhz sticks, but has replaced them with 800mhz. 4 months ago I bought an additional 2 x 2 gigs of CORSAIR Dominator 1066Mhz for a total of 6 gigs, which has been running fine until last week -- one of the Corsairs went belly up and keeps my system from even POSTing. I don't really overclock my memory that much.I ran with just 2 x 1 gig of my year old PNY 1066 and FS9 ran really smooth but I want at least 4 gig in my box - XP PRO 64 bit. What do you guys recommend? I'd like to keep the purchase under $175 US if possible. Please provide opinions/experience -- I'd like to order this today for delivery on Tuesday -- I'…

If it is too high (3000 MB) than it is quite stable but lower. If it is around only 200 MB than frame rates goes up but then usually stacked.Any experience with ideal set-up ?many thanksJM

My new build is coming along nicely - i7 965 running at 3.875 (will try for 4.0 over the weekend), GTX 280 (will try to clock to FTW standard using Rivatuner), FSX-dedicted Velociraptor on 3ware 9650SE... And Vista 64.Long story about that - I won't bore you with the details but it involves some positive reviews and some notion of future-proofing.However, since I was undecided, I also have a copy of XP64 on hand.Since I'm experiencing buyer's remorse about Vista - especially after trying to tune it per Nick N's instructions and being reminded what a mess it is - I'm wondering if I should wipe the Vista install and start over with XP. Hi folks, I've been running FSX with a HP AMD 4200 2X64 for about 3 years and the time has come to get an updated system. My previous computers have been either from Dell or HP and mechanically they have been good. I'm now looking at a machine from ZT Systems (N.J. USA), but I don't know too much about the company. They have been in business for about 15 years apparently producing computers mainly for other companies.I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with ZT Systems especially with their support. I checked with the Better Business Bureau on line and ZT has a B+ rating (pretty good compared to some). If you're interested, check BBB for ratings of som…

Hi all,I have a couple of questions:1) will having FSX on its own hard drive, by itself, speed things up in FSX? I notice that when I switch views, my plane interior/exterior takes a while to rematerialize. Or is that a RAM issue.2) can I just copy my folder to the new drive? Re-installing all of my add-ons would take me days, so I'm trying to avoid that.CheersQ6600 @3.6 ghz2 GB DDR3EVGA 790i MOBO2 X EVGA 9600 GT in SLI OC'd250 GB HDD

I noticed this evening while dreaming about my next build on new egg, the marketing of Core i7's paired with solid state drives. The combo intriqued me especially when I found the following video: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/clips/conventio...tz91-328872.php. My question to the masses is, do you think adding a solid state drive such as this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820167005 will provide a revolutionary jump in FSX performance?

Its time I made an upgrade to my system for FSX but its so hard to decide between updating my present system or stepping up to new technology.Upgrading my present system of an E6850, with ASUS P5W DH Deluxe and 9700 GTX. This m/b does not O/C very well and so with the Q9650 I will be stuck at almost stock speed. This system will turn out much cheaper as all I need to buy is the cpu. With the i7 920 I would spend more but should be able to O/C to 3.5 Ghz.So which system would give me a significant performance increase over my present E6850?????.

  25. Hi all, I've been reading about overclocking quite heavily and am curious if anyone can shed any light on the real world benefits within FSX and overclocking a Q6600? I'm not looking for how-to's (reading enough of that) or definitive answers saying I will see a gain of X fps, or X amount of smoothness etc... but rather just a feel for whether all this OC stuff is worth it as far as flying around in FSX is concerned. All that said, I just bought a CPU cooler today (an OCZ Vendetta 2) as I'm likely to pull the trigger and do this regardless... but I'm curious if all my reading and efforts are going to yield much goodness in the end. Here are my system specs: So, any gues…
