I posted this in the FSX forum but no takers.....I am getting desperate!I thought I had this solved but it has reared it's ugly head again and has an added dimension. Upon landing I get a one stutter before touchdown. I had that before and started using Nod32 and that went away. Now that it has returned another sound stutter has started. When an ATC window pops open to talk to me it will give a stutter....when I close the window and ATC is talking to another aircraft I am also subject to get the stutter. All of this happens around 75 percent of the time. I changed sound cards....turned sound off...disabled sound card...still happens...even though there is no sound but whe…

I haven't been on top of hardware since about 2004, so I've been spending a lot of time in this section of the AVSIM forum, trying to figure out what I need to get to finally have a decent PC and not the one from the stone age like I have now. There are so many different suggestions from different users that I finally decided to give up reading and ask myself. Here's what I'm looking to do, I'd like to fly in FS9 with add-ons (sceneries, birds, AI) with a great performance (note: doesn't have to superb, lol)I also would like to try flying in FSX with a reasonable perfomance so I don't start hating it right away.I'm debating wheter to get Q6600 or I7 920 Nehalem. I understa…

I'm giving serious consideration to upgrading my rig for FSX/FS9. Currently, I'm getting 8-10 fps for both (FS9 is really loaded up & maxxed). Currently have a 2.8 Ghz P-IV with 2 Gh or PC2700 Ram. I built this rig 3-1/2 years ago and it's time and the parts are cheap to go to: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, ASUS P5Q Pro MoBo, 2 G of OCZ Flex DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) memory and a EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+ Superclocked edition. I've already upgraded the power supply and have the proper fan. I plan on using the same hard drives for now (7200 rpm 240 G Western Digitals X 2).Is this the route to go? Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.Steve LewisGretna, NE

So I have the E8500. Now i regret purchasing it a month ago. Since FSX will use more than 2 cores (so ive heard). I looked at the Q8200.I cannot make up my mind! lol Any suggestions? How much better is the q8200 than the q6600?My budget is 200 bucks. Thanks - Tom

I've just built a new PC - Asus Rampage Formula; Q9650; 4GB DDR2; GTX 260 Core 216; WD 750GB and WD 500GB.My plan is to do clean installs of install XP and FS9 and then Vista and FSX. I want to be able to run FS9 in XP as I have many FS9 addon aircraft and scenery which will not run in Vista 64. I also want to run FSX in Vista 64 (to enable 4GB DDR2) and have the option of running FS9 in Vista 64 too. I realise I will need to double up on graphics drivers etc. I had difficulty with partitioning when installing XP (the original version) as it did not recognise large disks in NTFS. It gave me no options where to install XP or the size of the partition. I ended up with thi…

I recently bought a new PC and a new secondary monitor. Performance with FSX is a bit disappointing, but my main problem at the moment is that FSX does not display at my main screen. I have two Samsung widescreen monitors of 24 inch with 1920 x 1280 px 60 Hertz, 32 bit color (SyncMaster 245B+ and SyncMaster 2443bw).FSX starts at my main screen and stays there till I start a flight. When it has loaded the fligth it starts at the secondary monitor and the main monitor remains black. The strange thing is that FSX on the second monitor also switches tot a lower resolution. When the flight is loading I first see a black rectangle on my secondary monitor and when the flight star…

Yesterday I went to Best Buy and I saw a special sale for a portable laptop. There was a blue Acer Aspire One laptop, with two 8GB hard drives (one regular and one solid state), 1GB of RAM, and the Intel Atom N270 processor with XP Home. It comes with a free Canon printer that they sells for $49.99.The deal is $249.99.I compared the prices of these laptops at other places and I think this is a really good deal. Should I go for it?

I just realized that the system I want to upgrade (motherboard, cpu, ram, video card) has Win98SE on it, so I will need an OS upgrade.I gather from what I have been reading that XP Pro is preferrable to Vista for FSX. I also am under the impression that XP 32 bit is preferrable to the 64 bit version. Is this true? Thanks,Don

Hey guys, I have an E8500 on the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Water cooled with a eVGA 8800GTS 640MB (the older series) and the CPU Water Block on the same loop.I have managed to get to 400x9.5 which gives me 3.8Ghz.I set the voltage from "Auto" to 1.205 because I read somewhere (cant remeber where) that the CPU runs better when you manually set the voltage. Is this true?Anyway, w/ Prime95 running for 10 hours (the Large FFT test) I run at 64-65C in a room about 25C.Is that safe for the E8500 "E0"?Another thing, is 10 hours a sufficient amount of time to test a CPU for stability?Am i using the correct test (Large FFT) in Prime95?I appreciate your help,Thanks in advance.

Not exactly pertaining to FSX but oh well. My ping as of late has been really high, like in the 100's. I have a 5mb charter communication cable connection. I usually can ping the Twin Cities (using site speedtest.net) in about 40-60 ms. I've recently been jumping around at 120-160ms. Anyone know what the problem might be? I run NOD32 and Firefox 3 with some plugins. That's the only things running in the background. Is Vista more network heavy than XP?

I was running an E8500 at stock speed and getting around 16FPS sitting in my PMDG747-400 on the threshold of the runway. This figure increased to about 50-60FPS during departure as detail diminished at height. I tried overclocking and it showed promising results so I figured a CPU upgrade would improve the performance. After spending a considerable sum on a QX9770 (yes my ram has a top speed of 1600MHz, so it's compatibile with the FSB and the X48T MOBO), without changing anything other than the CPU clock, FSB and RAM speed, I now get 10-12 FPS on the threshold and it only increases to about 15 at height. Can anybody explain this?Rgds

I am pulling my hair out on this one and have been for weeks! And I'm sure there's a (fairly) simple solution, it's just my inexperience with XP64 and/or SATA configurations that's holding me back, so if anyone has a suggestion I'd truly appreciate it.I was experimenting with performance on my rig between 3 internal SATA hard drives: a WD Raptor, a new Seagate 500 gig with 32 meg cache, and a 2nd slightly older Seagate 500 gig'er, which now is used solely for holding my old XP 32 install, and all of my Acronis backups. Unfortunately, I've stuck myself with a triple boot set up that I intended from the start to only be dual boot -- it's now 2 XP64 installs and one XP 32,…

Hi all,I am having a h/w problem at the moment, and while I can still use the PC, I will most likely have to perform a complete reinstall again, did that just over a month agowhen I had the same problem, I think it's the h/d.I have a Duo E6600 stock clock (2.4), P5B board, 2gb corsair 800 mhz ram, Corsair 750 PSU, 8800gt video, Windows Xp Sp3. I use FSX Sp2 only, no other games. Used the E6600 since 2006 and it is getting long on the tooth. So at this point I thought an upgrade may be in order. However not sure which route to go? Either an 8600 Duo, and Asus P5Q mobo or with the new Intel I7 920 and the Asus P6T Mobo and 3 gb of 1330 ram and maybe a CPU cooler. I have neve…

What do you think?Would it be wise to upgrade to lets say a GTX 280?

is there anyway to get nhancer to automatically load my selected profile? right now I have to start nhancer before FS9, then it scans for executables, finds FS9, i then select my FS9 profile (ignoring the default one) and then click the "allow manual load" box and then load FS9. I'd like to get it to a point where I can just load up FS9 and have all those settings automatically loaded. Thnx for any ideas...
