Hi,I'm long due a new system, my old one has fried up and so I've been out of the FS game for a while now and am eager to get back in with a new PC. Can someone please advise me if the following specs will serve me well? I intend on using FS9 primarily, however I'm also wondering if I would be able to use FSX too? I'm looking for good frames in FS9 with all sliders maxed and a PC which will last me for some time with regards to flightsim. Here are the specs...-AMD ATHLON

OK I installed my new 9800GT 512mb last night. My previous card was an old, old ATI X850 Pro. As per the instructions listed in a few threads on this forum I booted in safe mode, ran driver sweeper to purge all old video drivers from my system, then rebooted again, installed drivers for new card, restarted again, installed nhancer, rebooted again, ran the sim. What I'm running in to is this: at large airports like FSDreamteam's KORD, where there would be 100+ AI airliners milling around the airport, textures are being drawn so slowly as to make the plane (even the default cessna) unflyable. It's like a slide-show (literally, one frame every second or every 2 or 3 seco…

If anyone is interested in price cuts at least with the Q9XXX series there are some good ones. Q9650 down to $317, Q9550 to $268. Not bad to consider if you can't afford the prices on the i7 platform. If I wasn't set on the 920 and if it wasn't the end of the line for DDR2 and the Mobo I'd jump on that 9650. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1384648

I have a DVD/CD combo which has worked flawlessly until a couple of weeks ago.The problem which has cropped up is that it sees any blank DVD disk as being already FULL, when in fact it is blank. It sees blank CD's properly - the issue is only with DVD's.I have a TSST Corp DVD+RW TS-H653A - which came with my Dell XPS710 - which is just out of warrenty.Does this sound like a "hardware" problem or hopefully something which might be corrected with a software solution? Thanks in advance for any help. :(

As the title states. I've been out of the Flight Sim community for a few months now as my computer was down. I have not downloaded SP3 as of yet, I thought I remembered reading something about SP3 causing FS9 problems, but since the search function on this forum won't search for the term SP3, I can't find the post I was thinking I saw. Also can't search effectively for any other posts about it. Also wondering if it depends on what drivers you have for you video card, or any other hardware, whether or not you should install SP3?I should be getting my new EVGA 9800GT 512MB today to get that computer back up and running, and I have not yet determined what drivers I will …

Hi allLooking to upgrade my PC in the near future but I am a bit unsure of what hardware is good, bad or indifferent. ( not very computer savvy). The PC would be used to run FS9 , hopefully with all the bells and whistles. The company I am looking at is Alienware and they give various options for the models they sell. This is the model I'm looking at , and as you can see they have various build options. The PC would be used primarily for Flight Sim and not much else. The dashed lines represent the base model fittings would they run FS9 OK or would I need to upgrade to some of the other options listed?Any advice would be appreciated.Operating SystemsWindows Vista

After reading about Vista, I am still with Window XP and plan to stay with it for a while. However, I am now considering two upgrades (1) a new video card with 512 MB and (2) a new processor. Okay, I missed my window to order my new rig. It's waaay too cold to ship anything right now. I've heard of cases warping due to the constant temp changes so it's leaving me time to do more homework. By the time and weather changes so are the components I'm sticking in the new computer. I'm going to order an F-131 from Maingear and they offer OCing on their systems. Cooling system is an Asetek Dual 120mm CPU Water Cooling System so my question is it worth to just go stock with a 940 or get a 920 with the OC? Even if my monitor is not a high end I'm thinking of just going ahead with the 280 GTX. $118 more than a Core 216. Heh, they're offering the 295 GTX too. Rest of the …

Hi!FS9, 3.2 Dual Core, 8800GTS, 3GB usable RAM.The problem is that using AA makes the cumulus clouds to bring FPS down to less than 10.I can sit on an airport with 60 FPS.A ton of cumulus clouds only bring down FPS a little. But any use of AA will eat all my FPS, making it unflyable.Question:Are there anyone on this entire forum using FS9, with any kind of AA in use, that can put on a low overcast of cumulusclouds, without the framerate being divided by four?If so, I would love to hear what kind of AA they are using (NHancer setting?).Marry Cristmas!Tore,Oslo,Norway.

I thought I posted this question already, but alas, I don't see it! Perhaps it's in the DPC queue!OK, for those in the know, why is it that if I run my machine at 4.1Ghz/1629Mhz DRAM Freq I get DPC Latency into the yellow zone AND better FSX performance, versus 3.0Ghz/1333Mhz DRAM freq I get nice low DPC Latency, but poorer FSX performance?Methinks higher DPC latency is not the same as, for example, higher memory read latency. To me, it suggests a component is working much faster than other components, hence procedure calls end up stacking up until the slower component is ready. Is this correct? Noel
