So I was doing some tests to try and figure out why I have bad stutters. Mainly I found it's when I have the autogen up too high (pretty much dense or greater). But what I did was load max autogen and watched the CPU utilization. Then I turned it down to what I am running now (normal autogen). I noticed that the CPU worked harder when it had less to display... isn't that bassackwards? In the first pic my FPS are decent but I'm getting massive variations, like 40-50% from the average (causing stutters). When I turned down autogen to normal the variations were under 10%, and I was almost stutter-free. Why does the CPU work this way? I'm really confused...

FSX on Windows 7 v7000 looks very promising....Had the chance to see a 4GHz Quad PC running FSX on Windows 7 v7000 , was very impressed with the results. Was a clean install of W7 and FSX SP2 (non acc) using the latest nVidia drivers with a GTX280.Result was clean stutter free flight at a solid locked 30 fps, the framerate seemed just to pin at 30 even in busy downtown areas, that it seemed on FSX Vista 32 would have taken a hit. No benchmarks so who knows for sure but it seemed impressive on 1st look. The OS itself looked very nice as well with a number of useful features over Vista and XP.Looks like a big winner for MS, I expect to install the final version on all my PCs.I…

I am actually putting it all together and my mobo P6T Deluxe has a 4 pin CPU fan connection but the thermalrights fan is a three pin. The indent guides on the CPU FAN connections would position it to use three pins so should I still use that or use a chassis fan which is three pin? Thanks, Jim

Has anyone tried this lately? I've found a few old reviews but nothing current. I'm wondering how it worked, how was the 3D effect, what was the frame rate hit. I have marginal but good performance on my system with FSX but nothing spectacular. Since this device alternates between left and right eye views, does the effective frame rate get cut in half? All opinions are appreciated.http://www.edimensional.com/index.php?cPat...f5dcc283284ce71

All my parts are here for my i7 940 build except for my TRU 120 (2 more days) so I have been reading the MOBO manual and have been able to digest it pretty well so far but this being my first actuall build I have a question as to what is the best time to update the BIOS? Should I get it all up and running as is out of the box, install OS, then BIOS update, or update the BIOS before the OS is installed? Thanks, Jim

I just installed a battery ups for my FS computer. The software that came with it installed a tray applet that starts with OS boot, that has no obvious way of disabling. (It is not loading via HKLM/Microsoft/Windows/Run regkey...)Is there any known downside to having the APC (battery UPS unit) tray applet loading on Windows startup? It consumes 2,100 kb of mem, and does not appear to be using any significant cpu resources.I'm just worried about it affecting FS. Anyone have any problems with this or similar apps?

im expecting delivery of my computer parts tommorow. and i was wondering if anyone knows of a guide on how to piece to together? not a total guide, just the basic steps? also, my heat sink will come the day after tommorow, and i will do my best to have patience till then, but say i do put it together tommorow without the heatsink. could i just use stock heatsink till the aftermarket one comes? and would i need to apply thermal paste to the stock one? and if i do apply the paste to the stock one, does it harden or could i just wipe it off and reapply more for the aftermarket heatsink? hope that makes any sense, thanksadam k

Ok this is driving me crazy! I load up an AC from free flight and the sound is very good, excellent even! depending on the AC As soon as I load up a flight plan the sound gets muffled and I begin to hear static crackles and pops!! At first I thought it was certain gauges and if I look away the static stops but the sound is still muffled. I've tried my onboard sound AC97 with realtek's last 2 driver sets, and now I'm giving an SB X-Fi fatality a try with drivers dated 10-07-08. The difference between the XFi and AC97 in free flight is well worth the switch in favor of the X-Fi but as soon as I put in a flight plan it all goes to poo.System:Vista X64ASUS P5QIntel E8500 cor…

I am considering getting this unit for my q6600. I live in an old house with out Central Air and the Ambient temp can be high on warm days causing my OC's q6600 to run in the 60's. I was looking around for a water solution that could bring my temps down some and found this. the reviews I found seem good. It seems this may lower my temps to the 50's. Was wondering if anyone on avsim has used one of these?http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php?opt...55&Itemid=6

I posted this in the other forum at the bottom, but no response yet. I'm hoping someone here can make a suggestion. My 15 yr. old son is upgrading components in his computer. He'll be keeping his case and HD.He's looking to upgrade to Q6600, Antech 500W PS, Corsair RAM (4 gigs). His budget is around $600. Question #1: Can someone recommend a decent motherboard. I doubt he'll be overclocking anything.Question #2: Does the OS matter for Crysis? He's not into Flight Sim, but will Crysis, among others.Sorry that I don't have more specific info on these components... he doesn't live with me. I'm hoping for recommendations anyway. Thanks in advance.Regards,

I'll just go ahead and ask this question:Some of the newer boards have an 8pin EPS connector. My current power supply has only the 4pin connector. My power supply is an Antec True480 and it lists its current capabilities on the 12V line as 28 A so it should be fine for the 9800GT that I bought which wants 26 A available. My question is: Ive seen adapters that just take the standard 4 pin connectors that have always been used for hard drives and fit it to an 8pin plug for the 8pin EPS.Is that safe? are there adapters that convert the current 4pin EPS directly into an 8pin connector? Is an 8pin EPS connector even needed if Im only going to run a 65W dual core E8500?thanks i…

I have read Nick's posts concerning various hard drive configurations as they relate to FSX. Good information. With regards to a single hard drive configuration, I read that the disk should not be partitioned, or if it is, that the first partition be used for the OS and programs, including FSX.My question(s):Since Vista (and XP) can be installed and booted from any partition, and since we want FSX to be as close to the outer edge of the platters, would this work:Create three partitions - partition one for FSX, partition two for OS, partition three for other data. Each sized appropriately. Each defragged as per Nick's recommendations (perhaps partition three not so importan…

Hi All, I wonder if anyone could give me some advice. For several years I've used a separate Hard Drive for my Flight Sim programs - using the other drive for the operating system and everything else. (A tip I read about here a long time ago)My system is a few years old now and no doubt the HDD is slow by comparison to the newer ones. I have recently seen adverts for these new fangled "External" hard drives that are just plug-in. I wondered; If they would be suitable to transfer my Flight Sim programs onto. If they would work; If they might be an improvement etc. My Hard drives are both connected via the old "Tape" type leads and therefore I believe, not 'SATA' or 'RAID…

Hi, I've been a big fan of aviation simulation. I've tended to spend hundreds on accessory's for flight simulators. My issue is that my PC can't handle FSX on high.Which CPU do you claim that can run FSX on ultra high? O/C is fine because I know how to.Q9550 to 4ghz?E8400/E8500/E8600 to 4ghz?(List a CPU you recommend) :( I've My Traffic X big frame eater and PMDG's products. :( I wanted at least 20fps on ground And if you have a gaming rig that can handle FSX on ultra high, please leave your specs for me to think on which CPU to choose. :( -Vincent
