For many years I have usually left my computer on 24/7, as was the case this morning. When I came in this morning, I had an NOD notification telling me that i needed to update my Antivirus Database. This puzzled me a bit as I have the automatic provisions selected for updating every night. Everything else looked ok with the computer, monitors, and everything else running and displayed normally. In any case, I decided to shut my computer down, and restart it (cold restart). DISASTER. It would not restart. The only sign of life I had was that the "Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock" indicator lights on my keyboard were intermittently blinking very rapidly. I unplugged the …

Ok, In another topic I requested advise on how to setup the HD partitions in the best way possible. The response I got were a bit dissapointing in the way that the general expectation is that it will not give me the performance improvement I hoped for.I know I may be asking to much, but in FS2004, I have all settings maxed, 100% AI with various traffic addons, lots of addon scenery's and aircraft. Now when I'm for instance approaching Aerosoft's EDDF2008 with the LDS767 or PMDG 744, framerate drops to at or below (!) 10fps.Eventhough FS still remains some sort of smooth, I would feel more comfortable if I would see it higher; preferably 15+ fps. Also, the combination of UT a…

Hi everyone,So I finally have my new rig up and running, and with great expectations I take my first long-distance flight in the PMDG 747-400. About 6 hours into a planned 9 hours flight, and with EVERYTHING running 100% perfectly up to that point, I routinely switch to the spot view and suddenly the aircraft textures are messed up and missing, FS9 starts to stutter and then totally freezes up with only the engine sounds running. No CTD, no error messages of any kind or even the infamous BSD! The only way to stop FS9 is via "End Task" in the Windows Task Manager (after repeated attempts mind you). After that the PC seems to be normal. My systems specs are as follows:Int…

I have FSX Vista 64 bit version with a GTX 280 graphics card. I see that NVIDIA has a new driver, 180.48.... Should I install this driver? Has anybody had any problems with it? Please advise.... Thanks

I'm afraid that I've corrupted my system and need to reformat and rebuild it as half my applications will no longer open, including FSX, copy+paste, windows firewall, system restore. I've been able to get explorer and internet explorer working again, but I think the system is too messed up to try and salvage. Especially if this was caused by a virus instead of just a bone head action on my part.I have been searching the various FS forums today but have not been able to locate a good guide on doing a clean install of XPSP2 for FSX. I have found many on performing a clean install of FSX and optimizing both the OS and FSX after they are installed, but none that get you up t…

Hello,My current system is as follow : AMD X2-4000+ ( 2,1 GHz); 2 Go RAM; ATI Radeon HD3850-256 Mo. I am running FS9 on a 22 inch display (1680x1050).I am very happy (over 20 FPS) with it except when flying complex aircraft add-ons (i.e. PMDG 747 or the super nice VRS F18) into complex airport (the new LFPG by aerosoft or FS dreamteam KORD) in overcast condition. (i also use active sky, ultimate terrain and fly from the VC)I consider upgrading the CPU to the X2-6400 (3,2 GHz) but need advice on the graphic card is there any chance it is also limiting ?thanksJulien

I am currently running FSX on an ageing AMD Athlon 2.4 mhz single CPU, XFX7600GT 256mb AGP graphics, 2 GB DDR RAM. Although FSX runs OK, with toned down settings, it is not able to cope with any degree of autogen without blurries occuring to the ground textures at anything over 100 knots.I was wondering whether an upgrade of the graphics card to a "Sapphire Technology Radeon HD 3650 512M DDR2 AGP" would help? Can anyone using a similar graphic card give any opinion? Also, what are opinions of ATI v's Nvidia graphics chips? Thanks,Stuart

I know that an SD card is probably not the best place to run FS9 from. But humor me: I'm curious to see how FS9 will run on my Dell Mini netbook. I have a class 6 SD card with 4 gb of empty space, which is more than enough for a full install of FS9. But when I run the installer, it won't let me select a drive other than C. (The SD card is D.) Any suggestions for how I can trick FS9 into installing the program to the SD card? This is with WinXP Home.

Expanding my harddisc capacity by adding another 320Gb disc.Combined with the other discs already in, this will give me2x 160Gb in Raid 0 and 2x 320Gb in Raid 0.With two raid arrays, I need to choose my setup for the partitions.Right now I'm thinking the following:Array 1 (2x160):C-partition: 50Gb for OS + System Tools + Page FileD-partition: 170Gb for FS9 sceneryArray 2 (2x320):E-partition: 100Gb for FS9 (except scenery) + FS related progsF-partition: 200Gb for FSX (FS9 is still my main sim due to hardware constraints)G-partition: 100Gb for office progsH-partition: 240Gb for data (MyDocuments, photo's and video's)What I'm wondering about most is the location of the FS9 s…

Hi Guys - would be grateful for any help on this one....I feel like I should be getting more performance in fs9 from my system. At the moment I get between 15 and 30fps at say FSDreamteam JFK with 85% traffics and activesky. The strange thing is that the frames do not alter when I remove all traffic and clear weather??I know that 15-30fps is good already but it fluctuates around so much that it makes performance seem jerky and slow.I would loke to be able to lock frames at 25 and feel as though my system should be able to handle this with pretty much all sliders to the right. Grateful for any insight you have into this...Thanks! System specs below....Intel Core Due E8400 …

Hi,I have a new computer that the guy in the store told me would be great for running FSX on but it only works well with the graphics pretty much as low as I can put them. I don't know a whole lot about computers so i'm not sure if he sold me something that can't really handle this or I just need a graphics card or something. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it. I have a Hewlett Packard, AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 GHz. 1.87 GB Memory but it says there is 1918 MB RAM. 32 bit operating system and the current graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430. Thanks again for any suggestions you have.

Hello all,I would like to purchase a computer for FSX from one of the "buy online" retailers. I don't really have a preference when it comes to the vendor, I've had good experiences with Dell in the past, but I'm pretty open to whomever.. (I know, I know, I really just don't trust myself to not screw up and I really don't have the effort, will and time to source my parts and build on my own... ) I'm basically looking for suggestions - here are a list of my needs:- Just the box, keyboard and mouse - I don't need a monitor etc.- I would prefer an Intel processor- Graphic performance is probably most important to me. I will be running three displays through the TH2GO.- I wou…

I have to manually load the pro flight plug-in before I launch a plane in FSX. Sometimes a planes' switches are all messed up (i.e. landing lights turn on lights and fuel pumps).Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way around it where FSX automatically loads everything the first time?

Hello,I have just bought both yoke and rudder pedals from Saitek. Now I have configured the brakes via FSX. But now the brake indicator is always on, and if I brake with the rudder pedals differential braking is blinking. Even if I don't touch the pedals the braking sign stays there. This is a bit annoying and I will hope you can help me solve this problem.

I build my own rigs and have an older (but still useable) case and PSU around, plus an NV 7950 video card and matched 2X 1GB DDR2 RAM sticks. I have utilized the older mobo/CPU that was originally installed for parts for other friends' PC's.I would like to build a PC that is essentually a spare unit, plus which could run relatively low-resource FS applications such as RC and AS. I don't wish to spend a lot on this, and am wondering where I could acquire an older mobo/CPU. Most places I go to on-line have the greatest and newest stuff, which would be fine if I wanted to upgrade right now but I don't. Is there a "boneyard" store available thats sells "non state of the …
