I'm reading a lot about the affect of proper memory configuration on the performance of FSX without understanding it. I have a Intel Q6600 processor, set at the factory default of 2.45 ghz. I've read some other people having success with this thing overclocked to 3.5 ghz and beyond. The thing is I have no clue how to do it.I've tried doing some research, and I can find endless discussions about motherboards and BIOS systems, and the like, and what to get if you're building a new computer and want to overclock it. I haven't been able to find much on how a novice like me can look at what I have and what I need to do.Could someone please give me a link pointing me in the right direction or let me know what I need to do from here? I got the computer last year and haven't messed around inside…

I have been doing a lot of reading on increasing performance to fsx and keep landing here so I thought I would join and ask for some advice. After some home remodeling and new office furniture I built myself a flight sim desk, this computer is only for fsx, we have 4 other computers in the house but this one is off limits to everyone. There are no other programs installed on this computer. The desk is a corner so I could run three monitors. (have picture)To start I bought two 22" Samsung 1600 res 2ms to add to my 24" Samsung 1900 res. I also bought 2 evga 9800 gtx video cards to replace my 8800gtx What I have:Abit IP35 PRO mother board (bought '07)Lga 775 socketIntel c…

I have had this board going on 3 months now. It has worked out in the end for me except in one area and I think if anyone is looking to buy this board you should know about the issue with the on-board audio SoundMax. It has lots of problems. It does not show up on every board but it shows up in a high percentage. Has lots of nosie...static...popping....and can even sometime cause lockups of FSX. You can get this popping just using your browser also. There is also some discrepancy as to how to install this board. It comes with enough isolation washers to go on one side of each screw hole. But each screw hole has a ground ring of solder around it which tells me it needs to …

Also what kind of frame rates should i expect?????I was planning on buying an ASUS 24 in monitor but wasnt sure if the computer will handle it that big. At the store the guy told me that i could run things well up to 36 in but i dont want to go that highHere it is: Case: ATX FullTower Case no-ps Antec p182 Power Supply: 800w 24/240pin w/120 mm Fn XStre…

I got my i7 system running and it seems to OC to 4ghz no problem at all. Used 200X20 to get there. I only did a quick OCCT test and temps never topped 65C. Idle at 35C. I need to do a good stress test for a long period of time I guess to find out how stable it is.Anyway, this i7 doesn't seem to have a problem at 4Ghz. Batch 3841A from Newegg. Thanks to all for your hardware recommendations and reports. I used this forum almost exclusively to select andbuy my products. System is still new, so we shall see how things are as time and usage passes.Just wanted to say thank you to all of you :)Dan

Hi all,I have two points to ask.I am tweaking my i7 940 for some weeks. I use both OCCT the latest i7 compatible version and Prime95 to check stability. There is one thing notable about OCCT is that core temperatures indicated in the window are several degrees lower than that of Prime 95. Local (Japan) OCer's know about OCCT, but they do not recommend in various OC BBS, because lower temperature read of OCCT leads them to believe OCCT is not giving much load yet.Is this true? Reading from your discussions in a past. OCCT has been more recommended. Also, is the OCCT memtest reliable? I ran memtest 86+ for all of my memories, then had no failure reported. But OCCT memtest re…

Hi all,Just got my new i7 920 on an ASUS P6T Deluxe running with OS installed and want to know how to set and verify DRAM Bus Voltage, I believe is the setting which is not supposed to exceed 1.65v according to Intel specs.I have CPUZ and RealTemp and HWMonitor. Do any of these give accurate readings?Having all settings in BIOS on AUTO and HWMonitor says that the voltage is 1.67. I don't want to burn anything up, so how can I know the proper voltages?Using 1102 BIOS on the ASUS board. Please bear with me as I am new at this having not built a system since the 486 days in '95. I have been doing a lot of research in these and other forums and hope all this info comes toge…

I am dual booting to a new Vista 64 installation, and wonder if I should install DX10 for FSX (or other titles). I currently plan to just keep Vista 64 as lean as possible, and use it only for FSX.Can you go back to DirectX 9.0c if you wish, or no?THanks,Noel

There isn't much info out there that I can find about SSD drives with flight sims. It seems that they should greatly speed up loading, based upon published stats. Any insight about SSDs vs a velociraptor drive (for example)?I'm planning on adding a drive to boot/use just for FSX, so any thoughts would be appreciated!

Just wondering how they are holding up over time. I have a quad Penryn and wonder what sort of overclocks are generating premature failure or unreliability. I do understand Intel's position is to disclose the idea that risk essentially scales up whenever you are above the functional operational limit of their CPUs. And they suggest exceeding the maximum core voltage (1.45v w/ my QX9650) definitely amps up the risk of premature failure, unreliability, etc. So, do we have any estimates of realworld failure rates in penryns?Noel

I have a decent PSS, a PC Power n Cooling 750W with the 61w 12v rail or something along those lines. The unit does not appear to have an 8-pin connector, but does have multiple 6's and a few 6+2s. Are 6+2's essentially equivalent to 8pin, or not?THanks in advance,Noel

Keep in mind that I cannot purchase the Q6600 @ 2.66mhz since my "FSB only supports up to 1066"...... !!! jack
