I followed the directions to do this under a command prompt and then rebooted. After accessing a document, closing it, then right clicking on it and selecting properties, it updates to the last time I accessed it.I also double checked that the value is "1" with regedit. Also tried turning the computer off and then back on. It is still updating my access times.I am running Vista 64. Could this be an issue with my user rights? I am the only one that uses the computer, there is no login screen either.

Anyone hear of the new technology hard drives that are in essence like a big USB stick. There's no turning parts in them making data access that much more fluid. Something like that would do wonders for FS, conventional load times would be cut in half if not more. I forget the actual name of this new technology but it looks promising just the same especially it's potential in the confines of our hobby. If you think of how efficient video card ram is it's a no brainier how this new technology could influence in-sim performance. Data access would all but be instantaneous or in other words texture loading throughout the sim would be a non issue (we wouldn't notice textu…

Hi guys just after an opinion about a strange problem that seems to have come from nowhere!!After about three weeks of not using my PC i switched it on today and sat in amazement as my temps went from approx 38 c to 98 c without running any programes at all .At first i have to admit i never noticed as i switched it on and was doing something elese when I heard the fans reach a new level of noise I have never heard before !!.Now all the fans are running as expected , there is no overclock , verified by resetting all bios settings to default , But the back of the power supply grille after about five minutes is almost too hot to touch , even though the fan is running.( powe…

  4. Hello, this is my first post and ive got a bit of a problem. I have had FSX running on my computer for around a year now and although it lagged slightly with my last CPU it was bearable. Since i have upgraded my CPU to the Intel Dual Core E7500 the planes jolt more, and it is not only with the expansion packs. Default planes such as the cessena and trike ultralight jolt as well. My old CPU was the Intel Dual Core E6420. I have found the planes that jolt the worst are the Captain Sim 757, Trike ultralight, PMDG 747. However Pilot In Command 737 runs perfectly with high graphics. Its very strange and if anyone could help me out id be most grateful.Cheers Shane

Hi,I thought I should ask the experts about this. ;)What are the symptoms of hardware overheat while in FSX? Would freezing of the entire sim/os would be one of them?

Suggestions?Having stuttering issues with an i7 system, I think the chipset or MB maybe the issue.I've built a number of FSX setups and using NickN's tips normally results in stutter free flight but with this i7 setup it has higher frame rate but the stutters make it very disappointing to the point of returning it.I have the system stable a 4GHz , 191x21 , memory at 8 8 8 24 1T 2:8. Speedstep is turned off.It flys for encoding video, etc but for FSX its clearly 2nd best with the stuttering.Using a eVGA x58 MB, gtx280, Vista 64 on a fast 7200.11 OS drive and fsx on a raptor.Framerate is locked at 30 and you can see it drop for no reason at times to 12 then jump right back.…

Hello Everyone, I have one final decsion to make before purchasing and assembling the new FSX machine. Having already bought 6 Gig of the Redline Mushkin 6-7-6-18 RAM and decided on the i7 950 CPU, I am agonising over whether to buy ASUS or Gigabyte for the mobo and GTX285 graphics card. I am hoping for some feedback from the many forum members who know so much more than me about the two brands. The mobos I was looking at are the ASUS P6T Delux V2 and the Gigabyte GA-EX58 Extreme. I know I can get 2 gig of memory on the Gigabyte 285. Is this needed for FSX?Regards,Stephen.

Have a WD 320 Gig External hard drive I just picked up for the sole intent of doing a backup of all my folders/files.I have about 50 Gig to backup (XP O.S.) and started yesterday afternoon.I delayed the process when I hit the rack and picked up again this AM.It apppears as if it's going to take some time to run the process, so far have only gotten about 3 Gig.Is this normal?Cheers,irish3

Guys and GalsI'm currently putting together a system for a family member who's a mad keen FSX enthusiast but currently has to play it on a laptop.I'm intending to give him a system with FSX, Acceleration, UK Photographic scenery and MyTraffic 5.2? (He's very keen to have non main airports and local liveries and this seems the best option to provide this). It'll also have a Saitek Rudder and Yoke setup. Whatever way I go will have at least 4GB of memory. The screen he's using has 1440x900 resolution, I'd like to ensure this can be upgrade to 1920x1200 later without having to change other system options.I have a number of options which way to go and therefore need some …

Hi Gang.I wasn't too sure where this should go, so apologise if it's in the wrong place.Has anyone tried or heard of this product http://www.disk-image.net/I'm thinking about if and when the inevitable every happens, and as a general back up solution without the need to re-install.I did try Norton's Ghost a few years ago, but found it very bloated and complex to use. This item seems to be simpler to use whilst accomplishing the same thing.Anyone know anything about it, or recommend something that does the same thing. Many thanks for any feed-back.

I currently run FS9 with an AMD X2 6000+ (3,1 ghz) and a Nvidia 7900GTX. Most of the time it performs good, but with a lot of clouds the FPS is decreasing quite a lot. I think I should buy a new graphics card for better result, what do you think? Or do you think a new CPU is what I need?

  17. All:A few months ago, I got a 22-inch monitor as a gift, but of course my E6600, 2GB, 8800GTS 320MB system struggles to run FS9 in native resolution (1920x1200). It's not so bad at fairly simple airports when there are no clouds, but drops to single digits in complex weather or at detailed airports (I ran FS9 on a 17-inch, everything maxed out with very high framerates). So, is there light at the end of the tunnel? Could just upgrading my rig do the trick? If so, should I prioritize the GPU or the CPU (or RAM)? What new GPU or CPU should I go for? Thanks for your thoughts.Nicolas

Hi all, i have recently been having severe statc issues from my PC..at first i thought they were the speakers that was the problem but after buying a better pair that did not solve the issue..? I have no idea what is causing it..? my sound card is about 5 years old (audigy sound blaster) ....is it better to go with on board sound as i have read that the newer mother boards have much, much better on board sound than in previous years...will it rob me of FPS to go this way?

Below is a review I cut and pasted from Newegg about a guy's experience with his Q9550. Since I am running an E8400, maybe a move to the Q9550 running at 4.5Ghz is the way to go. That way, a new motherboard is not required. What do you guys think?RHPros: Absolutely the greatest processor I have ever purchased. Blew my Q6600 out of the water, along with most i7s (unless they're in the hands of a pretty serious overclocker). I picked up a prolimatech megahalems for cooling and on 1.41 volts with LLC enabled on a Gigabyte P45 ud3p board, it's stable at 4.5 Ghz with idle temps at 36 and load temps at 60 on the hottest core. I am absolutely infatuated with how well this thing …

I can't take out an equity loan on the house for this so I need to find someone who will give me some options to match my budget and who will stand behind their work.Any suggestions gratefully accepted, MH
