I'm reformatting. Been using Vista x64 for a few years now happily, but I'm looking to squeeze a bit more performance out of FSX (in particular). I'm not exactly complaining about performance now- that is once I turn down my ginormous AI. I've noticed that the latest drivers from ATI have helped too- even on my 2 generation old video card (better general performance with AA/AF)In general on a Q6600 will Vista x32 or x64 OS run faster? I am legal for both :)Hardware is a Q6600, Radeon 3870, 4gb ram.And before you ask, Win 7 is not currently an option for me.Thanks all!

Hi. I want to get a good gaming laptop for under $2500 that will run fsx with no problems. I usually fly in the NYC metro area. Is either Alienware or Asus any good for this?

WONDERFUL!Just checked in for my daily update of what is offered by AVSim:The library is back, with listings for FSX contributions. I assume it is open for all contributions, but I do wish they were isolated for individual FS versions.Thank you AvSim!RTHEdit: Sorry, wrong forum, but I am glad it is back!

I have 2 HDs, the first with a primary active partition and a second logical partition, and the second disk with 1 primary partition.-I am actually using XP32 and want to install XP64, so I can select from each one to boot, and run MS Flight Simulator X without the OoM problems.- May I install it in my second disk in its unique partition ?I asume that I must install FSX and all my device drivers again in the new OS .-Does the new OS creates its own program files and document and setting folders, so it results in independent installs of FSX for each OS ?Thanks

Like the title states, Has anyone tried FSX on a dual chip server rig,Using a W5580,or equivlant chip? I wonder if the extreme cost of such a system would be worth any performance gain,If any? Thank's from Jim

Hello all!I'm pricing out a new FSX system. I'd like to stay under $3K. I think I've nailed down most everything except the two main components, CPU & video card. One thing to add is that I'm not a serious hardware tweaker/overclocker/etc type. Being a software developer, I generally leave the hardware alone. :-)For CPU I'm trying to choose between:- i7 950 3.06GHz- i7 975 Extreme 3.33GHzIs the 'better' one really worth the ~$500 increase in price? For video card (running single display): nVidia GTS 240 1GBnVidia GTX 260 1.8GBHere again, is the 'better' really worth it? From threads I've read in these hardware forums, it seems a single GPU card ultimately produces bett…

Dear Simmers,I hope I find you well :)Recently I formatted my Pc from Windows Xp 32bit to Windows 7 64 Bit.Fs seems to work fine however I think I have a small problem concerning the sound. On my system I have installed the Creative Xfi Fatality Pro soundcard with the latest drives (downloaded from the creative website - Also 5.1 speakers)The main problem is that whenever I start Fs ( and change the sound options to gaming mode) The main sound of fs starts coming out from the centre speaker, from the left and right speakers only the ambience ( fs passengers also AES ),the rear left and right are totally dead. Sometimes when I minimize the sim and then open it again, the soun…

Have a new rig that has CPU turboV tool that allows what appears to be a way to interface and control overclocking. I've attached a couple .jpg showing turboV in steady state on my system. When I'm going to use either FS9 or FSX I simply increase the CPU ratio to 28 and turboV indicates about 3.75Ghz...if I raise the ratio to anything higher, the system is unstable. Can I increase to 4.0Ghz from TurboV? If so, what other settings must I change in TurboV to get there?ThanksRich Perryi7 965 Extreme Quad Core6GB OCZ DDR 3 RAMNvidia GTX 285 (2GB GPU) tweaked with nHancer 2.5.1Raptor HD 10000rpmSB xi ExtremeDell 24"Windows Vista Ultimate 64

I was going to build a complete I7 rig from scratch but I am thinking that it will be to expensive. I really wanted to preserve my current system to run MS office, surf the net and network to run ASA.If I cannibalize my current system, it will save me the expense of a case, on HD, DVD drives, case fans and perhaps a PSU.Do you think my current PSU is enough for a I7-950, GTX 285 and three HDs? Also, do you think I will be loosing a lot of performance by running ASA on the same rig rather than running it on another system?

Probably like many, I upgraded my computer ~bi-annually when the next version of Flight Sim came out. Even though it looks like we may have seen the last MS Flight Sim version, at least for now, I find myself once again in the mood to upgrade. In the past, processor speeds increased drastically, with regularity. In the past few years, this has not been the case, though there's no denying the the C2Duo's offered a big gain over the P4, seemingly regardless of Mhz.My current system employs a C2D [email protected] on air/ MSI P35 Platinum MB / 4Gb PC8500 RAM / WD Raptor / 8800GTX & 9600GT / TH2go DI run multiple monitors and touch screens. System spec:Core2Duo E67502GB RAM9800GTX+WinXP32MSI P35 Neo with onboard soundSB Audigy 4About a week ago I started encountering problem with my DVD drive and then all hell broke loose. The computer started showing a blue screen (bad_pool_caller) on startup and things started to go downhill from there for FS. Eventually the system started to malfunction and slowed to a crawl.I took the system to the shop and they identified that my PSU was not providing enough power and they changed it to a new Powercooler 600W unit. This resolved the startup problems atleast but......the errors in my FSX and FS9 continued whereby the Saitek Yoke and sound cards started to have conflicts …

Another question. If I have enabled my onboard mobo Realtek sound card and I also have an addon Audigy4 enabled, can I run sound to both of these cards or can I run certain applications on one and some on the other? How about if I put my headphones and mic on the Audigy will they still work if the Realtek has the speakers attached? I have tried this setup but am not successful in sending sound to both cards simultaneously.Any help would be appreciated.ThanksShez

Hello,I am going to build a rig with a I7-950, GTX285, 6GB of DDR3-1600. I'd like the ability to add video cards later for SLI or to be able to switch over to ATI.I'm seeing the following models:P6T Deluxe V2 P6T P6T WS PRO P6T SEWhich one do I want? They either seem the same or the specs don't appear to be apples-apples. I can't see any difference , besides the price, between the Deluxe V2 and the SE.I'm looking at NewEgg BTW. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....mp;x=6&y=31Also, if anyone has another board that they would like to recommend, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks,

Hi.Dont know if this topic has been shown before but here goes.2.45 Q6600 Quad core, 4GB RAM (2x2GB sticks) ,9600 GT Graphics,XP 32 bit.Last week I noticed that when the PC is swtiched on only 2816 of RAM is showing on the start up screen when previously it showed 4GB RAM. PC shows only 2.75 RAM in properties ,when before I think it showed something like 3.5RAM. PC Wizard show PC has 4GB RAM installed. FRESH RAM programme shows 2816 RAM. Ran a memory test and this also showed 2816 RAM but no problems with the 2816 of RAM.Where has the full 4gb RAM gone?I took out the 2 sticks of RAM and put one back in its slot and the PC showed 2gb RAM,I took out that stick and instal…

Hi,maybe this is a dumb question, but I'm thinking about replacing Pentium IV 3.6 GHz CPU with a faster one. This will then be a dual-core type or quad-core-type. (I know...... I will have to replace the motherboard as well)As I understand not all programmes (software) will be affected by such a change as they aren't programmed to que up tasks with multi-core-technology.What about FS9 ? If I replace the single 3.6 GHz CPU with lets say a Core 2 duo 3.33 GHz - which should result in about 6 GHz processor speed; will I get a FS9 performance in accordance with this upgrade ?Carl

Hello all,Yesterday i flew the Feelthere ERJ from CYUL to KFLL (FSDreamteam); started at dusk so arrived at night. i used ASA and Radar Contact on my client PC.All along the flight, spot view shown clear and crisp ground detail in between clouds, right up to 3000' when i was vectored west from the coast to land on 9R; the problem is, on final, i could see the runway lights but no airport buildings ?! after landing and ending FSPassengers on the taxiway, i restarted FSX and position myself at the gate at KFLL and sure enough, buildings were there with FPS at 12-15 locked at 20.Also, might be relevant to mention that, on others flights when i ended the FSPassengers flight …

I have the I7 975 Extreme, GTX285, 6GIGS of DDR3, Asus P6T.When I run FSX for the first 20 minutes or so, it's almost like HEAVEN. Nice, smooth, great frames, very enjoyable, trouble free. Then all heck breaks loose.I monitored my memory, it shows that I have 4gigs not 6 gigs. It starts off with a usage of about 2 gigs, it inches up gradually to 3gigs and beyond. When it approaches 4 gigs, slightly short off, FSX becomes practically unflyable. Not a crash to the desktop, but jerkiness and stopping. I tried it with the Enhancer 2.5.3 beta. Then I turned off the enhancer, the result was practically the same. The result is the same with XP-sp2 32bit and Windows 7,64bit. I do…
