I am building a second rig and want to use Mushkin memory. Does anyone know how I can get hold of them here ?cheers, Mark

  2. I am building a second PC for FSX. I am going to get wideview and network them together, using one PC for outside views and instruments, the other for cockpit view. By the way I would be interested to hear of people's experiences using wideview, it seems a good way to solve performance issues in FSX if you dont mind shelling out for 2 PC's !!I have ordered this memory: Mushkin Ascent 998692 6GB (3x2GB) XP3-12800 Ascent REDLINE 6-7-6-18 DDR3 Memory Module. I have been reading various posts and this seems to be recommended, have I ordered the right stuff? I hope so!!I had planned to go i7, use the 920 DO stepping and overclock to as near 4GHz as I can. Hey guys, having a bit of a problem with getting my core i7 920 DO staying at 3.6ghz without FSX giving me a CTD. If I back my OC down to 3.4, I've got no problems with stability in FSX but as soon as I get up to 3.6 , I'll get a FSX CTD, either several minutes in or a couple hours. I didn't think Vcore needed to be that high but I tried 1.3 and even that did not settle my problems. Temps are not a problem as they never get above 63c at load. Some specs of what I'm currently running stable:http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=716092Not sure where to go from here - Thanks!

  5. There is a new build of O&O V12 ProBuild 12.197It's free for all registered users.Just go to the HELP tab in the present version (12 Pro) of the program you have installed, and then click on CHECK FOR UPDATES.When you do that...make sure you read the screen from the O&O site.....and then click on the link for REGISTERED USERS. You will then get a screen leading to the full program. Fill in both needed masks, and version 12.197 will start to download. Note: You have to HAVE version 12 already. It will NOT upgrade you from previous series.

I recently got a new Gateway FX6800-01e system with an Intel core i7 920 cpu @ 2.67 ghz., 3.00 GB DDR3 Ram, ATI Radeon HD 4850 1GB DDR3 Dual DVI, Intel X58 Express Chipset. FSX runs fairly well but has occasionally low fps, especially around dense scenery areas. I have most sliders and options set for best performance per NickN's reccomended settings. I just heard about the JetLine Systems that are made just for FSX, but I could never afford one. Besides, I just got this rig thinking my FS problems would be over. I heard that the processor is the main factor in FSX performance. Is it possible to upgrade my processor and if so, what one would do the trick to give the bes…

Hi there,I'm trying to find out an affordable way to upgrade my current system (see signature). I have a local shop (which I'll need as I don't have any hardware swapping capabilities), which quoted me the following:MSI X58 Pro-E Core i7/ Intel X58/ DDR3/ SLI & CrossFireX/ A&GbE/ ATX MotherboardIntel Core i7 Processor i7-920 2.66GHz 8MB LGA1366 CPU, RetailSuper Talent Gold Series DDR3-1600 6GB (3x2GB) CL9 Triple Channel Memory KitThe Motherboard is $229, the Processor is $349 and the 6 GB RAM is $159I compared the prices to those on pricewatch and they appear somewhat higher, which wouldn't be to big a problem as I liked the service I got from this vendor in the p…

  8. Hey guys, I getting an intermittent but fairly regular problem with the display of my monitors, using my dual head2go. I am running 2 24inch Samsungs, at 3840 x 1200. What happens is that at the right hand side of each monitor, the last half inch vertical slice of screen distorts, as if it is wrapping round something into the monitor. Does anyone have any ideas what may cause this? As I say, its not apparent all the time and its also showing on the desktop as well, so not FSX specific. I have tried the obvious, updating the Matrox software etc.cheers, Mark

Just curious about this. I heard talk about how much ram FSX can use, but what if you are using Addons such as Weather engines and others, I was just curious if adding in more ram would be a benefit at all.Any help would be much appreciated. I am currently runnin Win 7.RegardsBob G

Hi Gents,I've settled on a chip choice by upgrading from a Q9650 to an i7920 (d0) SLBEJ CPU. I'm a bit of a PMDG MD-11 fan and am not overly happy with the framerates at major airports, I've tried overclocking my Q9650 and it has been a struggle to say the least. My Graphics card is a nVidia 285 and I'm running Vista 64 ultimate and will be upgrading to Win7 64bit on its release. Now, what motherboard and memory would you recommend to enable the easiest and highest overclocking level. My system is watercooled so there should be no cooling issues for the CPU.ThanksGreg

Hello,I am a long time flightsimmer and have not been fully satisfied with FSX yet due to my computer hardware. I currently have a Q6600 with an 8800 GTS card 4GB of OCZ 6400 5-4-4 ram and a 150 GB raptor HD. Its an ok system not a dog by any means but I still cant run FSX consistently smooth in high density areas(IE JFK,heathrow, etc..). I have been waiting and waiting to pull the trigger on a new system mainly due to the impending doom of our economy. Now that things seem to be getting a bit better, a newer chipset has emerged (p55) and new corei5 750 cpu and from what I read it is a true competitor to the x58/i7920 and costs less overall than the x58/i7 920 based syst…

I have a Gateway FX 6800-01e with 3Gig DDR3 ram. I was hoping to add some more since I have FSX. I see that DDR3 comes in 1333 and 1600 clock speeds . First, how do I find out what clock speed I currently have, and can I mix the 2 together or do the modules all have to be the same? Thanks. Regards, Tom

I have a new computer which is giving a lot of annoying stuttering in FSX, which I can't seem to get rid of. Others with a similar spec. seem to be overjoyed with the performance, most having overclocked. My computer is NOT a Dell. Here's my basic spec:Intel i7 975 Extreme (water-cooled) Asus P6T SE motherboard - American Megatrends BIOS v02.616 GB DDR3 RAM (1.333 mHz)Nvidia GTX 285 graphics card Vista 64 Home Edition o/sIs it worth overclocking to maximise/smooth out the performance and if so, is there a 'step-by-step' guide on how to to it on the above system? Thanks for any help and suggestions.Toni.

I broke down and upgraded my FSX rig yet again. I went from the QX9650 to an i7 950. I CANNOT beleive how easy these CPU's are to overclock. I'm already at 4.2Ghz on air stable with a max temp under load of 71C with OCCT and Prime95. I'm slowly decreasing CPU voltage and QPI voltage to see if I can get it a tad cooler. Currenty both are at 1.28125.To all you gents that were posting about your sucesses with these i7's thank you. Can't wait to get FSX installed and give it a whirl.Regards,Bob

I also have the ram and hardrives so its just a choice on this two CPUS and a MOBO to hold me over. I also want to add AI traffic REX and A PMDG plane which I can't do on my e7300@ 3ghz. It does FSX and UTX ok as long as I have no other addons.

I have a mild OC, running my G0 Q6600 at 3GHz (333 X 9), CPU-Z reports VCore at 1.232V. Cooling is with a ThermalRight Ultra 120. I have been running this setup now for several weeks, and am wondering what the next logical and reasonable step would be to OC it further? I am new at this, but have so far enjoyed the better performance with this mild OC so far. What clock and voltage would be a logical next step? Thanks, Bruce.

Would FSX benefit from running say 2x Intel Xeon's? I was looking at the W3550 Bloomfield's @3.066GHz on maybe an ASUS Z8NA.

I currently have a GA-X38T-GA6 motherboard (some 2 years old roughly) , and would like to replace it with something newer that would run a 45nm CPU (I currently have a Q6600 installed). I know that this socket is nowhere near the "state of the art" at the moment, but for now I would like to be able to retain my existing DDR3 memory and start off with the Q6600 and go for a better CPU from there. Any suggestions? I do like Gigabyte but am not limited to that manufacturer, and also I would like something with built-in wireless (although I'm sure that everything has that now). Thanks, Bruce.

Ok, we have know for a long time that Fs is very cpu dependent. So when selecting processors for a new FS build, I see L2 cache and now I see L3 cache. I have read and understand the concept of L2 and L3. No need to explain what either are.So has anyone got an opinion if a larger L2 cache chip,(with no L3), is better than a chip with a small L2 and a large L3? For FS that is. I'll narrow your opinion to only Fs as that is what this computer will be doing. Nothing else.Any opinions or actual users of L3 cache chips? Thanks,GLB

I thinking about taking the plunge and upgrading to the Core i7 club. However I'm slightly nervous as there seems to be some mixed results posted here. It seems that performance in FSX does improve with i7 but that stutters can become a problem.Currently I'm running a Q9650 clocked to 3.6ghz (my Asus P5E X38 board doesn't want to go any faster!) and a GTX 285 and i seem to get reasonable frames (thanks to Nick N!). For example during the PMDG J41 tutorial flight I'm running between 30-45FPS (no stutters), that's with UTX and GEX. Would a clocked 4ghz i7 920 give me a significant improvement over this or just induce a stuttering headache and more hours of tweaking?

I realize that overclocking is the way to go. But can I achieve some kind of boost by simply PLAYING with Asus TurboV on a small scale? Would appreciate help with the best settings. I have accessed windows XP Pro 32Bit on my secondary computer many times with no problems:1. Click Start2. Select All Programs3. Select Windows Update4. Up comes the Windows Update page with all the options and no problems. For my primary computer, I have upgraded to Windows XP Pro 64bit, but I cannot access the update provisions. When installing the 64 bit OS, I am pretty sure that I installed all the updates at that time and did not see my current problem. I also selected auto updates at that time. This is somewhat confirmed (I think), by the fact that I can go into add/remove programs in the control panel and Iam getting security updates listed, latest on September 9, 20…

My wife's Dell is pretty old now at 6+ years.Yesterday upon power up I get a black screen with white text stating something like "sorry for the inconvenience but Windows did not load successfully, it may be due to a recent hardware change" and so onSo what might be the problem? I checked all the connections - everything was secure and appeared as normal. I wasn't even able to run safe mode with cmd prompt (in attempt to run CHK DSK). Here are the details...I am clocking the system specifically for FSX/accel and the J41 from PMDG... The system is running rock solid at these settings... …
