I've largely moved entirely over to FSX, even though my system struggles some with it still. With the add-ons I would like to be using (FSDT airports, PMDG aicraft, REX, GEX, ~30% WOAI traffic) I am at 12-14 fps on the ground at an airport. Occasionally in a rough area like approach JFK I go to 9-11 fps. I also hit OOM crashes after about 2.5 hours (very understandable given my system). I have a new 4GHz i7 PC running 64 bit Win7, and fitted with a 1TB hard drive.I have separately bought a 300 GB Velociraptor. What is the best way of configuring the system?I could use Acronis to transfer Windows and FSX onto the Velociraptor - there would still be plenty of spare space as I don't run many add-ons - and use the 1 TB drive for everything else.Alternatively, I could leave Windows on the 1 TB drive and just install FSX on the Velociraptor.Any preferences?--Bryn

HiI currently have a setup which went out with the ark that badly needs replacing. I currently have:Athlon 64 3000+2GB RAMGeForce 7800GSPlease don't laugh! It's served me well for I think 5 years now without any problems, but I think it really is time for a change. The trouble is, I haven't thought about upgrading a computer for such a long time that I have no idea what's current or good, or what would be the best bet.I'm primarily looking to buy a setup that will give me good performance in FS9 flying Level-D type stuff with REX, lots of AI etc in to detailed airports whilst maintaining smoothness and reasonable FPS. I'm hoping that just about anything will be better tha…

Hello guys n galsOver a period of time, as i've added more and more payware addons i've noticed this issue getting worse....My sounds in FSX don't exactly 'pop', like other descriptions i've seen here, but rather, very briefly keep cutting out. Just for milliseconds at a time, maybe every other second or so. It's MUCH more noticable in outside 'spot' view, and increases if I pan around. It seems to coincide with the HDD light, so presumeably is due to to HDD access? Is there any way I could fix or improve this without breaking the bank on an SSD? There appear to be no Creative drivers for my sound card other than those supplied in Windows7My specs are in my sig. Thanks …

Hi,I think this could be of use for others wanting to upgrade to FSX as well. After reading so much on PMDG's product line and Aerosofts forum on their developments, I have come to the conclusion that it's time to upgrade to FSX. I have come to realize that I will be missing so much good addons for FSX that I'd like to see for FS2004. After reading and rehearing from Aerosoft that FS2004 has no market explaining their centered development for FSX, I came to realize it's time to upgrade.I have a problem... I need a really good computer for FSX in order to enjoy it. So my question is with a budget between 1000

Hello Everyone,I hope this is not a stupid question. After 17 years of flight simming with a standard 4:3 monitor I have finally decided to move to a 24" widescreen LCD. Since they have an aspect ratio of 16:9 will this monitor running at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 give me oval gauges and distorted outside views with FS9 and FSX?Regards,Shally.

I have FSX and Radar Contact both up to date versions. I am running VISTA Extreme Ultra 64. I remember with XP I could set FSX to have the back ground sound come from the speakers and the voice come to the headset. I can't find where you can set that up with VISA. I have found in control panel sound where to change the sound to go to either the speaker or the headset but not where to separate the two. Thanks to all who reply.Bill

Hey guys, I'm asking for your advice regarding a new system in which I'm having built for me, which will run fs9 and fsx very well. I am wondering whether this configuration will work along with your ideas too. I have a budget of about $2500.00 USD. This is what I've come up with thus far. Any suggestions? Am I way off base? Hey guys, I've been a longgggg time FS'er and I'm ready to try to take on FSX, I've been due for a new desktop for a couple years now, so I figure it's time. From what I gather it seems that FSX really preforms well with an Intel/Nvidia combo. For the last several days I've been searching Newegg for something. I'm NOT trying to build my own, so will be looking for a pre-built rig. I have about $1200 to spend MAX. Any help is much appreciated. The best deals I can find so far is something along the lines of the following.Desktop 1Desktop 2Thanks again,Sean

Hi Folks! So, what happens with me: I have a "kind of" old system, wich is:Core 2 Duo E6420 2.1GhzAsus P5B-Plus SeriesNvidia GeForce 8600GT2 GB DDR2-667Using:FSXWin. Vista 64-bitsPMDG MD-11, REX, Ground Environment X, Ultimate Texture Xand last but not least Radar Contact 4. No airport sceneries.Flying around Mid-west USA I get 15 to 20 FPS. That's good enough for me. Also, the graphics quality are good enough for me too. It's all I need. The problem is: I'm feeling kind of lonely in my FSX, and I'm considering buying Ultimate Traffic 2 or My Traffic. I know my PC can't handle it.So my question to you is: what part(s) of hardware do I need to upgrade to handle traffic? I wo…

Hi All,I have been using FS9 on an overclocked E6600 for a couple of years and was just about to pull the trigger on a new CPU and MOBO that would handle FSX too. Price-wise, an ASUS P7P55D coupled with an i7-860 seemed to be a smart choice, especially when I can pick up the i7-860 for $199 at MicroCenter. However, after reading about the latest i5 series processors at Toms Hardware,http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-...5-661,2514.htmlI am rethinking this strategy. If (since) FS9 & FSX don

I've been working again so I've got some money to spend on a new box. Greetings all,I recently read an article that suggested to speed up FSX, install it on a separate internal hard drive. In addition, because there is software I want to run (PSS777 is one example) that cannot be run on FSX, I want to install FS2004 as well. As a side note: I have FSX running fine on the original drive, but it is starting to crowd the drive a little which is having an effect on overall performance, especially when running multiple programs and FSX (e.g. Active Sky and FSX do not operate well together on C: drive).I purchased, installed and formatted the D: drive, installed FS2004 (I already have FSX on the C: drive...this was a test) and it seems to run w…

Hey all,So I have put together an i5 system in Nov but for some reason I still get some rather bad result. Today when I tried to do a flight with my ASA J3 @ RJTT, the airport was soaked with fog (I have REX2 set to Medium at the option setting, as well as ASA running.) and I'm lagging like hell. My setting is as below:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?s=&...t&p=1680975I only changed the FPS to unlimited and set FPS limiter to 30, and changed the autogen to dense. In game it shows from mid teens to 30 fps just sitting on the rwy. If it's clear sky it seems to be rather smooth.I have REX2, GEX USA & Canada, and ASA installed. My Spec:i5 @ 3.78Ghz8G OCZ DDR3 Gol…

My dealer has proposed the following setup with options for the motherboard and video card, and comments would be very welcome. I think I should be over-clocking to get reasonable performance but the setup is a bit pricier than I really want, $2200 and $2500, and any suggestions on cost paring would also be appreciated. I have studied Nick

Im planning on upgrading my current e8600 (Which has served me well) to a new core i7.Its a little confusing with intels naming system. I need some help as to whether or not this would be a decent upgrade from my current e8600.This is what im thinking of getting. Please advise if this looks good. Im a little confussed as to what to get. I am currently building a 1366 i7 gaming unit for FS9/FSX. What MOBO is doing the best at this point, which board do you use? I am planning on staying in the low to mid price range due to the current high prices of everything else. My budget is $1200 to build the system from newegg. Hi Guys,Im currently using a Dell XPS 710 (2.66ghz, Duo Core, 850 watt power supply) ................................ and now I'm thinking of Upgrading to run FSX.Will it be possible for me to KEEP my XPS 710 Tower and change my Motherboard to a (ASUS Rampage II Extreme) and my CPU to a (Intel CPU Core i7 975 3.33GHz). I know I'll have to change my Ram and possibly my Graphic card (currently a Nvidia 8800 GTX 750mb) but I was wondering if I could keep all my Drives: (SATA, DVD, CD) etc, my Tower, Power supply etc ................ and Build a NEW rig using my exsisting TOWER.Looking at the overall COST it just appears to be quite alot cheaper rebuilding my existing rig …
