Hi,It's that time again to upgrade and I have looked through this forum and did not find an exact answer for these specific cpu's. Is there a big difference from the i7-870 to the 930/950? The chips are about the same price, but the 870's motherboard options are cheaper. Does the socket type make a difference? Also, what motherboards do you recommend for them? Thanks in advance.

Hi guysI got my new i7 system yesterday. Fantastic. The overall feel of the sim in MUCH smoother- even at lower FPS. I have so far applied ******* Altuve's tweaks and am using Nvidia's Inspector with Nick Needham's tweaks. In less densley populated areas, smooth as silk, but at Heathrow, my machine still slows to 14 fps (with airport in full view on approach) without minimal AI and no road traffic. . What bothers me is that it is noticeable. Okay, it's Aerosoft's Heathrow, but this still doesn't sound right to me with this setup. Also, I have noticed scenery tiles flashing white when they load and sometimes just flashing white randomly. Especially happens in fas…

Hello Everyone,I am new to this forum, but not to computer hardware. I want to build a solid computer for AU$2500, with no monitor/perphirals required. I run many addons, and want the best possible machine for that price. I will want to overclock, but will need help achieving this as I am not accustomed with this process. I will also need help "tweaking" FSX, as I have heard that it must be done to get optimum results. Thanks everyone for your kind help.

I've nothing but problems with my Dell Alienware PC that's in a RAID configuration. One of my volume RAID drives failed, the first time it happened, it just "degraded", spent a bit of time with "Kumar" in India to get it back up. needing to re-install windows7 (what a pain-in-the-@ss). That was about three months ago, now it failed. The computer works, but only on RAID volume drive array 0001 (array 0000 is gone). Dell (Kumar) informs me that all they can do is send a Tech who will swap out my defective drive with a new one. This means re-installing windows 7.After this upcoming save everything you have on your hard-drive, and reinstalling windows 7, I'm thing of swi…

Hey, all.Have been out of the FS9 loop for some time due to proc overheating and shutdown. Been using a netbook just to get online and get by in the interim.Trying to plan a new system that will run FSX, and looking for advice.I wish I could say money wasn't an option, but then I wouldn't be posting this message for advice from fellow simmers if that was the case. It's probably going to take me a few months to put this together, but so far I'm set on going with an ASUS Rampage III Extreme MOBO as the base. I'm not sure if I should go with a Core i7-950, or break the bank for a Core i7-965 Extreme or Core i7-975 Extreme. If I go with the Extreme option(s) that extends the t…

So I have some money to spend and I swore to myself that this time I am not going to go down the "upgrade" route but instead I'll buy a whole new system. It'll pretty much be a "for FSX only" system, OS will be Windows 7 Professional.Once I had my financial "pain threshold" factored in, I have arrived at a possible setup:MOBO: Asus P6T SE CPU: Intel® Core i7-930 Socket 1366 @ 2800MHz RAM: 6GB DDR3-RAM, DDR3-1600 (3x 2GB Kit) HD: 2TB S-ATA II (I am tempted to add a 60GB Corsair SSD for OS/Swap here...) Hey Guys,Im looking to build a new FSX system to run at near ulra high settings on up to 3 27inch LCD's using ATI eyefinity. I'm a real life pilot and I plan to use the system with REX, VAT sim and add on scenery to help practice for IFR and complex ratings and to prefly flights to see nav aids. I'm a computer consultant by trade, but It's been a while since I have built a custom system, and I am pretty much out of the gaming loop. That being said, I did a lot of research and here is what I came up with. I'm looking for your input on my selections, im not afraid to learn, and im not afraid to spend LESS or MORE money if need be, im just looking for an awesome FSX system! …

Intel spec states the max Vcore for my Q9650 at 1.3625V. I realized that I've been running as high as about 1.39V while overclock testing (had left the Vcore setting to auto in BIOS :( ). So I was wondering what Vcore people are running their Q96### processors at? Have I likely damaged the processor?

Has anyone got any strong advice as to a choice between an i7-950 @ 3.02 GHz and an i7-960 @ 3.20GHz? I assume that the latter will give me slightly (?) better performance, but I would have to pay an extra £240 sterling for the privilege. Anyone able to say what difference I might notice in FS9 (and FSX, though I fly mostly FS9)? At the moment I am unconvinced I should pay so much extra, especially if all I gain is an increase, say, from 30fps to 33..Thanks,Martin

Anyways, to business. My finances are admittedly not in top form at the moment, however, a sweet bonus is just on the horizon, which should cover my small loan for engagement ring, and a fair sum for extra spending. A few questions:1) how well do they work with FSX & other games, along with every day use?2)How much does the entire unit cost (3 HD screens + TH2Go system)3) any recommendation on mo…

Hi folks. Im starting my new PC build for FSX. Ive got a huge Coolmaster HAF 932 case with heaps o fans, and a 750 Thermaltake PSU. In a couple of days im gonna get a Gigabyte X58a UD7 MB and an i7 950 CPU with some kind of after market cooling. I plan to also get 4 to 8 gig DDR3 RAM. My questions are these. Which RAM should i get between Corsair, Kingston, Gskill or Mushikin? Is there benefit to getting the 2000 mhz sets, or should i be concentrating on the C number? Any suggestions or ideas appreciated.Cheers.
