Hi everybody. I need some advice for the upgrade I’m about to make for my computer. I just bought a new power supply Thermaltake 600W yesterday and I’m wondering if that’s going to be enough for my upgrades. I already have the Nividia GTS 250 1Gb DDR3 graphics card and want to keep it for a bit. But are these upgrades going to help increase my FSX performance very much? Or do you have some suggestions? Overclocking? By the way my budget is very low and I don’t know much about sell building a computer. Buying: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro - LGA 1156 - Intel P55 - DDR3 - USB 3.0 SATA 6Gb/s - ATX Motherboard Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz 8M L3 Cache LGA1366 Desktop Processor Cooler …

Ok, ok....I know a MAC is not the ideal gaming platform and even less so where FSX is concerned! What I DON'T want to do here is reignite the PC vs MAC debate.....What I WOULD like to know is....Has anybody yet run FSX on the latest 27" iMAC's and if so, what fps are you getting on various settings?I am in the market for a new computer and for a variety of reasons, think the MAC is for me (again, I DON'T want to get into an arguement as for the pro's, cons of this decision please!). The ONLY thing stopping me from going ahead and ordering one is that I have enjoyed MSFS since it's conception and although I've not used it recently due to marriage, work, kids etc etc, I wou…

I've got a VRinsight MCP Combo Panel and I'm trying to use it with an aircraft that requires the buttons/knobs to be programmed manually. When I try to use the Key Mapper program with it, I'm having problems assigning the function to the buttons/knobs on the panel (auto pilot). For example, when I try to program a button as a Mouse Key to select and assign a function, I select Mouse Key/Enable/Left Button then Set - the mouse pointer turns into a cross, but when I move the mouse to area of the panel (auto pilot) over the button, it changes from a cross back to the regular mouse pointer and nothing happens when I click to program the button. Any ideas?

I just purchased a dell 9100 computer with windows 7 on it and I can't seem to get the yoke or rudders to display their movements in FSX. I have gone to the calibration tables and have done everything per the book and can't get them to display movement with the cessna 172 default plane. I have done the 'Test' in the calibration windows and they all display movement in the various axis' , however, when I try to fly with the default plane, I get no response or visual movement. Anybody know what's going on here?Jack

I am thinking about a netbook or a small laptop.I really need something for school with long battery life. Everyone is using netbooks but when ever I try to use them, they just seem so slow. I am used to the snappiness of my FSC PC. I have a couple other laptops. I have one 1.3 Ghz dinosaur that I use for my email and printing that is networked with my FSX rig. I have another 2 GHz dual core 17" Asus G51. The Asus isn't bad but it is too large to travel with, it has glowing lights on the case (so annoying) and it sucks juice like crazy.I really want something with long battery life that isn't slow so I can take notes on it in 4 hour classes. I will use it for Office, emai…

Hey,Due to life commitments I have not been able to sim for a good few of years. Even then I hadn't even managed to upgrade to FS2004, so for me alot has changed!I look at all the comments surrounding FSX and what system will run it best etc, and it reminds me why I never wanted to upgrade to FS2004 back then, the risk of buying a top spec PC and then a new addon being released which still brought the FPS to sub 10!For that reason I think i'm going to buy FS2004 and make use of all the addons for it. Could someone please suggest a more than capable system for FS2004 with the PMDG 737 and some decent scenery and AI? I'm not even that much of a technical person, so an of…

Hello,Just placed an order for a 256GB SSD - Crucial "CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1 C300 2.5" 256Gb SATA6G MLC SSD". Seems to have really good reviews. My plan is to install this SSD as the boot drive with Win 7-64 Pro in my existing setup (spec in sig), along with FSX and all FSX add-ons and key programs which are used often such as MS Office 2010 and Photoshop Elememts. Most other programs and data such as photo's documents etc will go onto a regular 1.5TB HDD.Would this be the right way to go? I want a fast OS and a fast, stable FSX over all else.Cheers,

Would upgrading my GTX295 1782MB graphics card to one of the newer GTX460, GTX470 or GTX480 cards make much difference in a system used almost exclusively for FSX? If so, which one of the 400 series cards is best. Apart from the hit in the wallet, what are the pro's and cons here?

As others have, I have been plagued by the random FSX freeze, whereby all action on the screen stops, yet FSX does not CTD, and you can still hear the sounds of the engine cranking away. If you wait for about 10 to 15 minutes, all of a sudden you would get your animation back, and the flight continues. You might not get another freeze down the road, or you get one again at any time.Well...today I tried something. Winter is happening outside my Den, and so I decided to load up a flight that normally produces a hang about 15-20 minutes into the flight. That is from Golden, B.C. to KORS, all within ORBX domain. I shut the Den door, opened up the window wide, put on a coat…

The laptop I'm looking at right now is the Samsung QX410. Its sold in just one configuration with a Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics card with 512MB memory and an Intel Core i5 460 dual-core processor at 2.53 GHz with TurboBoost. I know that the GeForce 310M is entry level however will it be able to run FSX well?

My turn hehe...Look at my sig... I'm not satisfied with my performance in FSX. I've had to save money up for this but I should be in range of a completely new system purchase (within a few months).Note:I realize the new K cpu's are coming out shortly, so I may change a few things up, but ATM I'm basing my build around a core i7 950, which will be clocked to 4+ GHz.CaseCorsair Obsidian Series 800D - $300MoboGIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 - $290(p.s. My system is an I7 940 on an Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard with 4 GB RAM and an ATI 4870 1GB video card. I run FS9 with Windows XP SP3 32 bits. I use my desktop exclusively for FS9 and my hard drive is perfectly defragmented and I have of course the 3GB switch set.I usually fly PMDG 744, PMDG MD11, CS757, LDS 763 with many detailed scenery add-ons, REX textures (512 bits), and weather on ASE.Until I added REX, I enjoyed very high FPS and no CTD. After I installed REX, it appears my system has difficulty coping with the load. The most recent occurrences were a system shut-down and reboot when on short final at WSSS (Imaginesim scenery), and a CTD when on final IGS13 at Kai T…

I'm very new to all of this and would love some expert advice on components for a good FSX computer within my budget. I'm a student pilot and FSX has been sitting on my shelf for 2 years b/c it ran so slowly when I tried it on my laptop. I currently know VERY little about FSX or computer components, but I'm learning as quickly as I can. I've found myself feeling very lost and overwhelmed trying to weed through all of the info on these subjects in the forums, so please be patient with my inexperience :-)Intended use: I will only be using this system to run FSX, and possibly a couple of flight combat games (lock-on, RoF...something like that). All of my other computing …

Hi all - I am trying to make a decision here before I make a purchase from Alienware. I built two systems on line with exactly the same components,I7 930 o'c12 GB RAMDual Nvidia 460 1GBWin 7 64bit Ultimate1 TB Raid Drive. Is there any reason to pay $600 or $700 more just to go with an Area 51 machine over the Aurora considering they have the same components? Thanks for the help!!!!Richard
