Hi guys,With all this talk about SB and stuff I'm wondering if I should upgrade or not (if yes,for what to keep it low cost). At the moment I have an E8500 O/C @ 4 with 4Gb RAM and a GTX 460. I'm relatively happy with performance, but I guess you always want more..I only fly the LDS 767 and with traffic and sceneries I get 25-30 fps in almost all situations (I don't fly to big US cities).Would an upgrade to a quad( I5 2500k or I5 760) @ around 4Ghz be that much better than my E8500 @ 4?Thanks

Amazon doesn't permit software and computer purchases for Australians. Please can you readers recommend me the online stores you purchase from?Looking to save money as Downunder here we pay 30% more for electronics items. The retail business here wants the Government to impose a 10% GST on transactions from overseas and we are soooo overtaxed already.

I have FS9 and use a P5NE-SLI 7200 Core 2 Duo 2 GB ram and Nvidia GS8800. Works well with FS9.FSX is a lot more hungry. What shall I feed it?I am looking at a 1gb 220 Nvidia with a Core2Duo same MOBO. Should I increase? Advice please! I am looking for the most economical (value for money) system. Also I want to have parts that have already been proven to be reliable (I have an older P series ASUS board that shuts down or just ceases to operate).Should I have 8gb or 16gb Memory? I don't want to waste my dosh. Just want to be practical yet powerful. That is not have the highest cost item. I would rather pay $200 for a video card than have a measley increase of 20% performan…

Just commenced installation of this mobo and I7 CPU / RAM, and noted in the manual that there is provision for 2 power connectors. One is a 24 pin connector, and the other shows in the manual as being an 8 pin (EATX 12V). I have the 8 pin connector on my PSU, but note that the connector on the actual mobo is an 8 pin with 4 pins blocked out by a plastic cover (seems part of the connector on the mobo). I also have a 4 pin connector from my PSU, but am wondering why the 8 pin would be a 4 pin on the actual hardware, when the manual shows an 8 pin. Thanks for any info, Bruce.

After rearranging my computer room with new computer desk/bookcase I was left with very few choices for computer cases. Seems that Ethan Allen's computer desk leaves you with room for a 15" computer tower, which pretty much limits me to a mATX board/case. I've had to part with my prized AMD system and after researching, have ordered the following parts for my new build. I want to preface by saying I'm new to the forums and I am not a computer expert by any means. I want to get back into flight sim after being out since the late 90's. I hope to build my own system in a few months - I decided to wait to see how FSX performs with the new Sandy Bridge CPUs. In the meantime, I'm reading these forums, seeking advice, and learning all I can about how this stuff works before I build my own system.OK, getting that out of the way ... I ran across a good forum/website describing how to overclock the new Sandy Bridge CPUs (w/ ASUS mobo, although the concepts can be applied to others). I thought it would be helpful for all the folks like me who ar…

Hello! This is my first post. I wish it could be brief, but it seems that everything related to FSX is complicated.Last April I bought an HP AMD quad core to replace my seven-year-old Intel 2.8 GHz single core system with 1 GB of PC1066 RAM. Here are the highlights:Athlon 2 x4 630Pegatron Violet 6 motherboard6 GB DDR3 1333 memoryHP 23" monitor which I am running at the full 1920 x 1080 resolutionWithin a week, I upgraded:the power supply from the 300w to an Antec Earthwatts 650w (it was not easy, but I managed to fit the PS into the cage)the onboard video to an nVidia gt 220My upgrade will be made within the following constraints:I will not be switching to Intel, so my f…

What are good general max temps for my cpu and GPU which are:Intel Core i5 2500KNvidia GTX 460 SE SuperclockedI assume about 70 and and 80 on those but I am not sure as this is my first computer build and first computer I am actually monitoring it. I get about 65C on my cpu while playing fsx and it topped at 68 while rendering a video and this all on a stock cooler.

I recently bought a custom built pc (specs in signature). Without realizing it, I bought a cheap 700 watt xtremegear psu. Can anyone tell me their experiences with this psu. I know it's a pretty bad and inefficient psu, but I need it to last at least until June when I'm planning to get a more expensive one like coolermaster, etc. Thanks for your input.

Hi,First post so go easy I currently have bought an imac 27" only a few days ago. Its my first mac computer and getting used to it but i have a problem.I always used FSX in the past but took a break from simming and having tried x-plane recently i just dont like it at all. So... i have decided to take this back and build myself a computer (built a few in the past so confident i can) as i dont want to use bootcamp and having to restart to access windows all the time.My budget is £1500 maximum but would prefer to keep it around the £1200-£1300 mark.Just a few questions about hardware... Best processor to get for full detail on FSX? Was going to get AMD 1090t 6 core but d…

My calculations have come to £1600 which is my absolute max and i plan to order the parts next friday. Hi, I´m going to buy me a new nVidia GTX 460 grafic card as advised in another threat ( http://forum.avsim.n...-should-i-have/ ). Now I have a question regarding the power supply unit. I´ve seen on the nVidia website, that I need at least a 450W PSU. I´m currently using a 430W. Do I really have to change and what should I take? 500W or 550W? I don´t have so much money at the time, so I´m looking for a cheap one.

My Gen 2 XPS died on me about a year ago so I have been away from flight simming for a while. I'm starting to get the itch to get back into it, but I am on a pretty small budget. This computer will only be used for FS9 and nothing else. My addons include the PMDG 737, Feel There 737, and RJs, as well as custom traffic, Fly Tampa airports, and weather upgrades. I'm looking at a low level gaming desktop from Newegg with the following specs. Will this be enough to run FS9 at high settings? Hello all,I am excited to be returning to the flight simulator community after a period of absence. Anyway, I know this question has probably been asked a million times but here goes ....I am in the process of deciding on a new CPU. It needs to run from the LGA1156 socket so I am considering either the I5-680 or I7-870. I have seen a lot of difference in opinion whether FSX will run better on a dual core with higher clock speed or a quad with lower clock speed. In this case is 2 x 3.6GHZ vs 4 X 2.93GHZ. Can anyone give me their opinion on which one to go for??? I dont need any other applications to be taken into consideration, just FSX.The rest of the system if it h…

I am upgrading my PC this weekend from an older Q6600 quad to an i7. I noted, looking at the new mobo manual, that there are no IDE connectors such as I am using now in the older system for the DVD drives. Seems there are only SATA connectors. Do I need a new DVD drive, or is there an IDE-to-SATA adaptor? Any advice on what is the best way to go?Thanks, Bruce.

Can someone help me put these new Sandybridge CPUs in perspective. Go for a new Sandybridge or an older i7? The new CPUs seem to be very cheap in comparison, but what is the relative performance.

Hi AllJust built a 2600K machine. It was forced on me (so I told the wife) because my son's machine (an old Core 2 Duo PC) was being un co-operative. As a consequence he inherited my old X58/i920 machine with 4Gb of RAM.The new build was quite easy. On my old machine, after uninstalling as many X58 chipset devices as possible in Device Manager I shut it down and removed the SSD (which has windows 7 and FSX on it). Having read the reviews on coolers I settled on the Thermalright Archon. I also replaced my GTX285 with a GTX580. I transferred the CORSAIR XMS memory from the X58 machine (with the voltage lowered to 1.5V at the moment to minimise the risk to the 2600K. It now…
