Bloomberg News reports that Intel announced today it will build a new facility in Arizona this year, employing 4000.The plant will produce 14 nanometer chips. Wonder if that means that Sandy Bridge (@ 32 nan.) will have a short shelf life?AR

I've been following the Sandybridge story with a lot of interest. In contemplating the upgrade, one thing concerns me about my current situation as to how much benefit I will see from an upgrade. Almost always I see CPU running at less than 100%, and by that I mean individual cores. Shouldn't the main FSX thread that typically runs on core 0 consume everything it can? If it cannot, where's the bottleneck? It does not appear to be GPU, as that's running well below 50% according to GPU-Z.Now let me qualify it a little further. I typically get around 80% core utilisation running either FPS locked or unlimited, on a vanilla fsx.cfg or highly customized. In fact the onl…

I just had a computer built here are the specs: Intel i7 950 ASUS Sabertooth X58 mobo EVGA GTX570 Superclocked 12GB RAM Seagate 1TB HD Win 7 64 bit I just installed fsx (I am a first time user; normally an x-plane flier). So I don't know hardly anything about fsx, but with the settings all down low it is incredibly laggy. I can't be getting much more than a few frames a second. It just isn't functional at all; this is without a single add-on and at low settings. Why am I encountering this with my setup?

We've seen that in some cases that the SB 7600k can reach 5Ghz which is a real quantum leap in computers technology. But can we compare this speed with let's say 4.2Ghz on a 1366 plateform with highest mem bandwidth (QPI)? Or at the same clock frequency (and with a different memory bandwidth) is the 980x faster for FSX than the SB because of its 2 additional cores? We don't care what benchmarks say, FSX is our only criteria.I'll pin this thread for a while to centralize your experiences.Your comments are warmly expected :--)

I have recently upgraded to a 2500K Sandy Bridge/ Asus Evo MB/ Nvidia GTX570 Corsair Obsidian 700D/H70 and Corsair 750W Power supply. The only part of the system that I retained from my old build was the memory. Its GSKILL RipJaws 4 X 2GB DDR3-1600 PC3 12800 Timings 8-8-8-24 1.6V.I got the system up and running and loaded FSX etc and have been able to get a 4.8Ghz OC on a 1.40v CPU V CORE. Now I am getting the odd BSOD and I increased the Vcore to 1.41. I do not really want to go higher than that. I still get the blue screen once in a while especially in FSX when in very dense scenery. Could the memory be causing the BSOD or is it just down to the Vcore and could I basica…

I have an i-7 950 in an Asus P6X58D-E board, and have just woken it up. I am new to the newer clock inter-relationships of the 1366LGA CPU's, having previously had a Q6600 (which I had OC mildly). Currently, the CPU has it's stock cooler fitted, I wanted to bring up the system as it is designed to be (particularly since I am unfamiliar with the CPU), and will most likely later fit an after-market cooler and do some form of OC.I note that CPI-U is reporting a X12 multiplier for a core speed of 1.6 GHz. The reason for the post is somewhat related to the fact that I have the stock cooler fitted, however I assume that I can advance the multiplier BCLK to be X23? for a rat…

Hi I have a question about the settings in bios (motherboard Asus Rampage III Extreme) for a i7 975.As previously read on this forum, in addition to disable the turbo mode, which of these other items must be disabled/enabled to enjoy the full performance of FSX?For example, between the entries of the bios I find myself also:Hardware Prefetcher [Enabled]Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch [Enabled]Intel Virtualization Tech [Enabled]CPU TM Function [Enabled]Execute Disable Bit [Enabled]Intel HT Technology [Enabled]Intel Speedstep Tech [Enabled]Intel Turbo Mode Tech [Enabled]Sync Mode [Enabled] Allows you to enable / disable the synchronization with Turbo EVO V, or ROG OC Connect S…

Hello, when I try to connect my Iphone headset to the headphone front jack on my case (in signature), everything works fine, but when I try to connect the Iphone headset to the front microphone jack, the microphone feature doesn't work. I have checked the mobo and the front audio cables are connected to the correct mobo header. I tried connecting to the back panel microphone jack on the mobo directly and realtek audio manager shows that something is connected to the jack but I still can't use the microphone. Any ideas? Thanks.

Friends,First ... I've been looking ... does anyone know where an Asus P8P67 series or Gigabyte P67-UD5 MOBO's may be secured stateside. Obviously, just about everyone has pulled them. Maybe I am too late and will have to live with my netbook for three months. My desktop MOBO failed and I can hardly justify the effort/cost of rebuilding an E6700 for that duration!!Second, Has anyone on this forum experienced ACTUAL problems of any kind with the SATA 2 ports? My FSX had grown to nearly 150 gigs and [i am NOT a technician] I think the optical drives go through SATA 2, right? Also I am not clear as to whether ALL of the SATA 2 ports are affected or just some of them??? …

Hello!Looking for some advice regarding an install of FSX on an SSD. I currently have my OS and FSX running on a Corsair 128GB SSD. However, I've found that I'm starting to run a bit low on space (about 24GB free) and have my eye on some Orbx scenery. Obviously I'll need more room (maybe not right now, but eventually).I'm considering buying another duplicate Corsair (128GB) SSD. My question is that when I install it, should I just put my FSX install on one SSD, or should I run both in a RAID 0 configuration? Both being SSD's not sure of performance differences having the OS and FSX on different drives (albeit both SSD's) or running both in a RAID.Thanks for any advice.Che…

I built my first computer 2 weeks ago and its working fine except my cpu temps are higher than I want. Now I was going by the motherboard software and it was peaking at 70C(video rendering) I come to find out that in Realtemp the temps are 10C higher and peak about 75 in FSX but average about 65-68C and idle 37-40C.I am using the stock heat sink but I want to get an after market. What are your suggestions for after market heat sinks and should I use the compound that comes with it or buy other stuff(if so what should I get)I am using the Intel Core i5 2500K

I need help with the catagory of a motherboard first. Nothing specfic, just what I should be looking for in features to run 4 monitors.Motherboard advice:I currently have a AGP card and 1 PCI card running 4 monitors. I think I need an SLI to run two cards but was just looking at Newegg and see other MB's with 2 PCIe (x16) slots. This stumps me just a bit as it doesnt mention SLI so could someone please suggest a catagory of MB's that I should start looking with? I prefer to start with a MB choice then build the rest around that. AMD is my preference. Nvidia is also my choice for cards. I prefer no on board video. Sound, I dont care.To be clear, I dont want to setup an SLI…

I have a Gateway computer, picked it up dirt cheap, with a 300 watt power supply. The motherboard is a Foxconn (Bengal) RS780. I want to upgrade the power supply as I would like to put a better graphics card in, such as the GTX 580. My question is how can I determine the max power supply that the motherboard can handle? I would like to put something around 650 or more watt power supply in but don't want to buy anything until I'm sure of the max power the system can handle. I've tried to do some research already but haven't anything that answers my question. I know when selecting a power supply, besides the watts, I also need to keep in mind things such as if it will fit i…

I am having built a 2600K system and I need to know the quietest cooling option(s) for air on an overclocked system. I have hearing issues that are not good for high speed fans. Actually, on my last system, I didn't really need liquid cooling, but went that route just to get my noise down. I had one leak ... and well ... I don't want to go into it ... but I want to do air this time. Please offer me a couple of products to consider that are QUIET. I know low RPM case fans are important ... But I've never shopped, nor am I knowledgeable of 3rd party coolers.Thank you, Steve

Hi all,I am not a computer techie, in fact, I'm pretty dumb when it comes to computers, but I was wondering if someone like me can install a cooling system on my CPU or if I have to pay someone $50 an hour for labour to do it.If I can do this myself, what is the easiest and cost effective cooling system I can purchase for my i5? I'd like to bump it up from 3.3 ghz to 4.0. Thanks!

Hi,As some of you guys might have noticed I've been out of the forum for a couple of weeks.Unfortunately I was not here when some nasty events happened. Some struggles between members but that's the normal forum's bundle and I am satisfied the problem is over now <_< and also the "death" of one of our member, Chris.Alex, another active member, was the one who informed us of Chris accident. It was very hard and sad for all of us who shared something with Chris. It was also very surprizing to hear that because Chris was supposed to join back the forum (after I banned him for a couple of weeks for his harsh attitude on this forum) the same day he had this tragic acciden…

Hi everybody. I am Paris from Greece and this is my first posting here, so be nice...I have an hp dv6 1260se (Turion X2 Ultra ZM-85 2,3Ghz) (Radeon HD 4650) 4gb DDR2 and i have currently installed fsx. Though, in order to have decent flights (30+fps) i have to move the sliders from medium and under. I wonder now, what the performance would be if i go down to FS9. My guess is that it would be night and day. It seems that those simulators are made to play best after a decade or by diving hard on our pockets...So should i go to FS9 or not ?Thanks

If someone wanted to build a new PC right now are they supposed to wait for the SB "drama" to pan out or just go with the tried and true i7 930/950?edit: nevermind, I guess from reading other threads it won't be long until SB is back on the shelves. By the time I actually build (I know I know, I made a thread a few months back lol), Microsoft Flight will be out and my new PC will be my old PC *sigh*

I am considering a SSD for FSX exclusive. I currently have FSX installed on a seperate HD/ D:. My question is. To digress. I know it would be easy to cut and paste the program and all its contents onto the new SDD. My concerns are with the registry and all the addons. Perhaps I could name the new SSD drive D: and all would be cool. Sounds to simple. Any advicee and specifics in this matter would be extremely appreciated.Thank you kindley
