I managed to sell my current machine, so I am getting a SB system.Processor:i5-2500k or i7-2600k?- I'm mostly gaming, usually windows stuff, LOTS of unpacking jobs (rar, zip...), some little video encoding/decoding and lots of music stuff (Cubase, audio samples and audio effects...)- I read on some forums mora cache and SMT doesn't bring anything currently in games - how about later? do we know what future brings? I dont want to upgrade in a year again! last upgrade was exactly a year ago...Motherboard:ASUS (want nothing else, I trust Asus...)P8P67 normal or Deluxe, or something else?- I have a standard ATX case with the PSU up, but thinking about changing to the one with…

Hello everyone...Hope ya'll doing great. Well, I decided to move with Sandy and since Micro-center had it on sale (good sale), I told my wife that my computer had failed and I needed to buy some parts for it. So, I ran (or drove rather) as quick as I could to Microcenter 3 days ago, got an Intel i7 2600 K and and an MSI MOBO P 67A-GD65. At first I was going to go with the Asus Board (deluxe), but since I've had back luck with Asus in the past I decided to try MSI.---So, I got home and switched CPUs and MOBO which I had built (i7 950)3 months ago and installed Sandy. Well, long story short, guys, I can testify that this new CPU is absoluetly fantastic!. I OC it easily to 5…

  4. Just installed my replacement Asus Sabertooth P67 and am having trouble overclocking it. Got my original board to 4.8 mhz without any issues at all. Made all of the same adjustments in the Bios but OC doesn't seem to work. The strange thing is that the overclock doesn't fail. The system boots fine, but the CPU speed does not increase. When I reenter the Bios the OC settings are still the same but the speed is still 3.4 mhz. I tried reinstalling the chipset drivers to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,I'm a little nervous now as my new parts have been shipped. I have a CM V8 on my socket 775 Asus P5QL PRO. Will this cooler fit on my new Asus P8P67 without new brackets? I started to google but haven't found an answer yet.I bought my V8 before the 1156 were out and I don't have the newer brackets.I really hope it works, really don't feel like buying a new cooler. Thanks

Hi guys, I´ve been in the tweaking topic again since I´ve heared about this new AA mode. And therefore I thought that I cold try to get a bit more out of my system for the time I will have this systems as it is now. I will definitely cahnge to SB in a few months. But this isn´t the point. some minutes ago I had been checking the BIOS after an BIOS failure (system didn´t restart form sleep mode) for oc´ing and I saw that my RAM timings are on "Auto" and CPUID shows me timings of 6-6-6-20. I think it´s a bit slow. I tried 4-4-4-13, but it was unstable. Does soemone have further ideas on the timing and whether I should also oc the frequency? Oh, I forgot, I´m runnig 8 Gb DDR…

  7. I was wondering now that USB 3.0 has been out for awhile does it improve FSX load times both in terms of the initial load and subsequent scenery loads while you are in-flight? As an example is it better than a SATA connected disk? What are the drawbacks, if any?

Hi,A couple of weeks ago I opened a can of worms that was entirely my fault and I apologize to all for not handling the thread well at all. I am still interested in your knowledge and opinions and ask that you be kind enough to share them.I want to build my final desktop computer. The aim of which is to run FSX (and FS9) but no more than that. Any machine I assemble is 100+ times more than I need to write email or browse the web. I could used my old AMD Athlon XP 3200+ for that and still have horsepower to spare. Well, if you could measure computers in horse power. So much would appreciate what each of you would deem to be a "just right" configuration. Am interested …

Hi all,I have just purchased the following new computer:Win 7 64, i7 950 3.06Ghz; GA-X58A-UD3R; Corsair 6G DDR3 1600Mhz; 1G ATI 6870; Thermalake Armor A90 case; 700w psu.I'd like to overclock to as close to 4Ghz as I can on air without taking too much of a risk. I've been studying this forum, which I think is great, however I still find it a little daunting as I have no experience whatsoever at overclocking. The main purpose of the oc is to run FSX.Could some one help me out with some instructions and suggested settings to get me to at least 3.8Ghz? I've read that if I want to overclock to 3.8 on the system I have, I merely need to change my bclock to say 165 and not alter…

Hello follow simmers!I have QX9770 on Gigabyte EP45 board + 2x2GB OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Platinum Edition (http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ddr3-pc3-10666-platinum-edition.html).I have discovered, that autogen and scenery complexity has no effect on how my rig perform, so I put the sliders to the maximum. But I receive frequent OutOfMemory issues (W7 64bit, ASE, FSFK, MCE and many others).I have decided to replace the memory sticks to 2x4 GB.Right now I have my RAM at 1066MHz 7/7/7/20 compared to stock 1333MHz 7/7/7/20 because I have frequent crashes.I think it will be good idea to purchase 1600MHz and lower it to the 1333MHz avoiding crashes. So I bribed my neighbour yesterday with an invitation to him and all his family to cook for them my worldwide (well, almost) famous super-spicy Majorcan style snails this next weekend (escargots in french sounds a lot more enticing) and he agreed to lend me his SSD again.Just for kicks, I cloned my OS + FSX partition to both the SSD and my poor WD Caviar Green, normally used as mass storage drive. I'm running the same test I used for the RAM speed comparison here and will be posting the outcome shortlyIs this meaningfull at all? No clue, but hey, let the geeks have fun!

For quite a few years I was an ardent Simmer and used FSx for a few years before taking a break from it. The computer I had was an Intel Duel Core E6600 with 2 Gig of SLOW RAM and an old ATI x800 AGP video card with only 250 meg of memory. With this rig, I was quite happy with my simming and I used quite a few addons. If it had a weakness, I always felt that it was the lack of video RAMI now have a computer based on an Intel I3-550 (3.2 Gig) and 4 Gig of 1333mhz Ram. Now I know this is far from being the latest CPU - but it is more powerful than my old E6600 . I want to purchase a PCIx vid card to match the processor. Whatever I buy will be more powerful and have more …

Like the topic says, I'm wondering if there's a P67 board that lets you control the speed of the fans that are connected to it. I just installed 2 2000RPM fans in my case and although it's nice and cool, it's also noisy. My ASUS P5QL PRO runs them full tilt with no way to slow them down. Maybe if there's a MB that allows for fan control I'll be able to convince my wife that an upgrade is needed... Thanks

  18. I'm finalizing my SB build (just waiting for the later B3 revisioned boards) and instead of my original plan to install FSX on the SSD (too much money still/GB) I decided that I would still enjoy having the OS load at lightning speed. I'd like to get this Mushkin SSD 40GB:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226168Any issues with it? Do I need to get mounting hardware so it will fit in my HDD bay (which btw I'm going with the new Corsair 650D case)? Is 40GB enough for a Win7 Ultimate installation? Do I need any other SSD-specific hardware for it? I've heard guys talk about controllers... what are those and do I need one? Also, my plan is to get a l…

I purchased 2 Yate Loon 140mm Blue LED fans, 1 Feser Triebwerk TK-121 fan, and a Scythe fan controller.I got tired of hearing the Corsair fan on this H50, so the Triebwerk will replace it. The stock Cooler Master fans at the top will be replaced with the Yate Loons (YL). I've heard good things everywhere else about the YLs but I'm curious: anyone here like them, use them?

  20. My replacement P8P67-M Pro board is on the way and I face a couple of choices1) Uninstall all the drivers from the current board, replace with the new board and reload all of my drivers and keep the current configuration.or2) Do a complete fresh install of windows 7, FSX and FS9. If I do, I probably will take my 240GB SSD which currently has FSX and FS9 and use it for the OS and other programs and put both FSX and FS9 on their own 120GB ssd.Thoughts ? I'm leaning towards option 2. I'm going to have this system for awhile, and don't want any issues cropping up in the future. Thanks for your time Matt

Hi, I recently built a new system and included two drives in the build: one 40GB SSD and one 500GB 7200rpm mechanical drive.Obviously I'll be using the SSD for Windows 7 and FSX (this will probably hit max capacity, but I heard that its okay to fill up an SSD to the brim, true?)My question is, if I'm installing 40GB+ of additional addons, is it OK to install them on the other 500GB drive, or must it go on the same one as where FSX is installed? I don't know. And if I can fit some addons onto the SSD, would it be advisable to put ones with mesh or terrain such as GEX on it for the sake of texture loading? I have a computer that I use alongside my gaming rig for other applications while I'm simming, such as charts. I decided to upgrade my processor tonight, but between all the folks at Best Buy and all the folks at CompUSA, none of them seemed to know the first thing about processors. The original processor was an AMD dual core 2.5 socket AM2. I upgraded that to an AMD Phenom II 3.1 X2 550 socket AM3, and it works fine. But everyone at the stores I went to tonight tells me that is not possible for that backwards compatibility, but I know for a fact that the p…
