  3. Until my beloved QX9650 bit the dust last week, I ran my machine w/ the posted timings, and which pretty much limited me to 408x4 or 1632Mhz w/ the DRAM I am using. Since picking up a replacement Q9650 (didn't want to change anything else out since the mainboard and memory and PSS are fine and so on--I plan on a big upgrade in about 2y) I have dabbled in DRAM Freq of 1680 w/ more relaxed timings. Seems fine, have no idea what the max I can do and still be w/in DRAM voltage etc. Still getting decent latency scores (~47ns) and better read scores so is there a good reason to go more for tighter timings or better to shoot for higher memory read scores w/ more relaxed timin…

  4. . . . then make the mainboard supply as much voltage as the CPU is calling for in an overclock situation? Or, does AUTO mean the BIOS reads the correct vCore that is specified for the particular processor, and sets it accordingly? For example, a Q9650 stock voltage is I believe supposed to be 1.25v, so if set at AUTO, 1.25v is supplied to the CPU?I ask this because I thought for sure it was the latter of these two explanations. But when I looked at CORE VOLTAGE in lavalys, it shows when I have my DRAM running at 1640Mhz vCore is at about 1.36v, suggesting the BIOS setting of AUTO delivers MORE than the specified stock voltage to the CPU. I further corroborates this b…

OK - I am not a computer expert - but I am having a computer built with the i7 990x CPU and a ASUS Rampage MB with liquid cooling. The tech got it OC'd to 4.0 gHz and can't go higher. (He says it wasn't stable). I see posts out there of people getting 4.7-5.0. The tech says going to 4.5-5.0 would not help performance since he tested out FSX and it at 20% on the CPU. (he didn't have the PDMG 747 installed yet). Here's the debate: I say 5.0Ghz will give me better FPS performance in FSX than 4.0 GHz even though the CPU is at 20%. He says "NOT". Who is correct here? You think can tweak it up a bit with my limited knowledge - he says it'll void the warranty - I like takin…

Hi guys, I´m going to upgrade my current system in a few weeks anf therfore I´m opened a thread some time ago. I hab been adviced to an i5-2500k, an Asus P8P67 Pro Mobo and Mushikn RAM like this one here. I currently checked the QVL from Asus after I heard that some folks have problems with their RAM. But now I noticed that this RAM isn´t mentioned in the QVL. I´m curious whether this RAM will function or whether I should go for another one.

For about 3 days I had sudden onset of random lockups. I'd reboot, and all would be well for a minute or two, then lock up. I checked all cards, cables, memory seating, etc, and had a successful login and session for about an hour. Turned it off, then next day, the single POST beep code that was always present and heralded a successful POST, disappeared, and she wouldn't boot up at all: no output to the monitor, no beeps, but all the lights were on, the CPU fan was running. I have a PC Power n Cooling PSS that is well overrated for my components. It's at little over 2y old along with the other parts. I have no way to test the CPU, nor the PSS. I did happen to have …

I just ordered the hardware to build out a new PC and cannot wait until it arrives! My old system is a Q9550 @ 2.8 with an ATi 5770. I would say my biggest problem were blurries. Frame rate, in most cases could be kept in the high teens except around high-density areas (Anchorage kills me, down below 7fps). A decent system but showing its' age.I am moving to the i7-2600k with an H70 for cooling on the P8P67 Deluxe loaded up with 2x4 GB of Corsair Vengeance and an Asus GTX580. The OS will be on a Crucial SATA III SSD and FSX on a WD 1 TB SATA III drive.I am hoping so see some improvement!Once build I'd like to run FSXMark11 to see just how I stack up.I am new to nVidia …

  11. Normally I wouldn't clog the hardware forum with stuff so indirectly related to flight sim (this isn't exactly a computer forum after all), but considering the events of the past couple months and the rarity of such a recall of this scale I thought it was appropriate. If you are looking at building a new Sandy Bridge system soon, my advice is wait for Z68. Rumor has it set to release on May 8th. And if you still haven't swapped your B2 motherboard for a B3, just wait until Z68, return your B2 board for a refund, and purchase a Z68!Perhaps it's just the tarnished image of P67 due to the recall, but Gigabyte obviously sees something in Z68 worth going for if they are going …

I'm using the search function on AVSIM here trying to find the thread where they've been comparing the different P67 motherboards available. I'm thinking of going with the Deluxe, but I'm trying to justify the extra $100, and I don't think I need the extra USB attachment device they include. How to decide?I'm planning on building a SB system for overclocking. No interest in multiple monitors, SLI, etc, due to limited desk space. FSX is the only gaming I do, the rest is simple web design/editing. The overclockers forum on tomshardware has discussed some voltage issues with the straight P8P67 LE boards, but it's all information overload. I do apologize for my multiple "buil…

What kind of options do I have now that I'm looking at only 30gb left on my 120gb ssd drive? The sad part is, I installed from scratch, and I only have REX, Activesky, Orbx North America Blue installed.Haven't even installed REX2 OD or Ultimate Terrain and Ground Environment. I assume once those are installed I will barely have any space left.So should I return this drive and get a 250gb ssd? Or buy another 120gb ssd and run a raid?

  15. This is such a good deal I just had to post it - no rebate required, either! This is an excellent PSU for you guys still planning your Sandy Bridge builds. 650W should be plenty of power for an i5-2500k and any single GPU. Personally, I wouldn't run multiple GPUs on 650W, though.Seasonic X650 Gold - 650W PSU - $109

Just a HU there's a review of 5 P67 MB's over at TechSpot - http://www.techspot.com/review/380-intel-p67-motherboard-roundup/. My ASUS P67 Deluxe board fared pretty well except they didn't like the USB 3.0 speeds. Thanks again to Stephen (SpiritFlyer) who bought this board when SB first came out. I pretty much copied his system specs in building my new system as he had great OC results. This review might help others decide which LGA 1155 board to buy when building their system.Best regards,Jim

Hello,Recently my PC started to reboot without an apparent reason.Sometimes it happens as soon as I turn it on, sometimes it goes on for hours or even days without happening.Sometimes it even reboots during boot before loading Windows (W7 Ultimate 64) . I get no BSOD or any error message. I thought it could be caused by excessive heat but the temperatures are within normal range. I replaced the processors thermal paste just in case but it didn't help...I noticed in BIOS slight voltage fluctuations (especially in VCORE voltage) and assumed it could be my PSU but I'm not sure... The fluctuation is very small (from 1,192V to 1,184V and back). This is the worst problem I ever …

Hello, I've just put together my Sandy Bridge rig(2600k) and have it overclocked @ 4.8GHZ. It's very stable and running very well. When I did the overclock I used turbo boost in the bios. Are there any known problems with FSX doing it this way as opposed to a straight overclock? Any comments from you Sandy Bridge owners would be greatly appreciated.

No point on going inbetween. Keep you posted on that one. Here couple of pics from the build, just for fun:I feel somewhat like a plumber

Hi guys,I need some quick advice as I am going to upgrade my system even further. So, I have an Intel i7 920 at stock speeds at the moment. I had it overclocked at 4ghz, but people here suggest that one install FSX and windows on a non overclocked system and so I saved my BIOS and now I cannot load the profile to get it back to the 4ghz setting I had before.....anyway......I have a Geforce GTX 470 and 6GB Corsair 1600mhz RAM running 8-8-8-24. So what I am proposing is a new cabinet as things are VERY cramped at hot in here. When I was at 4ghz the CPU toped out at 72C and GPU is topping out at nearly 90C just with FSX.
