Hi guys, after my SB upgrade (for details see sig) I tried FSXMark11 for the first time today with an oc of 4.3 GHz. because of the fact that I´m no expert with overclocking I left the BIOS itselfe oc it. 4.3 are stable since 2 days. So I thought giving FSXMark11 a try and see what results I get. The results were worse. After some tests I got an average of 10 FPS. How can that be? Is it because of my pritty old GFX card? May this be the culprit?Another thing regarding the oc. I just tried to get 4.8 GHz but no avail. It booted and windows worked, but the heat is enormous. With BurnTest I got 95°C on all 4 cores, even with my not that bad aftermarket cooler. Currently I ha…

  3. I was wondering if i'm going to get even more performance out of my pretty well tuned FSX on my new CPU. I've used *******' FSX.cfg tweaking tool, and I am wondering if I need to set FFTF=0 now for even more performance? I've attached my FSX.CFG as well, if anyone wanted to look at it.Thanks

I've just completed my first home-built computer, with an i5-2500K on an Asus P8P67 Deluxe board and a Corsair H70 cooler. I have it running nice and cool at stock speeds, so next stop is overclocking. Before I begin messing with the settings in the BIOS, is anyone aware of a good guide that explains how to overclock this particular HW combination? It looks fairly straightforward, but a little preparation probably won't hurt.Any help would be much appreciated,Tom

When I first built my system a few weeks ago, I used the auto-overclocking option in my bios at which time it set my bclck (or whatever) to 103, so I ran it like that for a while, but I heard it was bad to change that value, even though the mobo did it, so I changed it back to 100, I just want to make sure that I didn't do any damage to my chip, everything is running fast, so I assume I'm ok? Thanks

Time to eat Crow...and I will gladly admit it...Now for the rest of the story....,-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I,... like a lot of other FSX users,(not all of course, but enough to fill the CTD forum!!!) was having CTD's and animation freeze-ups anytime from (for some) 1 minute into a flight, or as in my case, about 45 minutes to one hour into a flight. The freeze up consisted of sound still playing in the background, but total ceasing of animation upon the screen. If I waited...and did not use the Task Manager to end the FSX session, I could resume the animation all on its own between 10-15 minutes. It…

Hope this is the ok forum for this question...I want to remove the metal cover from the side of my desktop and replace it with some sort of material that will allow much more air to enter the case...I guess it should be open enough to allow air in but sturdy enough to keep out flies and small fingers! Has anyone come up with a good material for such a purpose? Thanks,Steve

  10. Hi floks, I hope you can help me. I´m now running my SB upgraded system some days and got it finally stable on 4.6 GHz. But I face a problem with the BIOS (at least I think so). After my system has gone into sleep mode, it won´t wake up. I have to clear the BIOS via removing the batterie, then it boots correctly and it´s just as the system has woken up from sleep. I think a BIOS update could fix that but I don´t know which version I should take. Which is the latest one or fixes this weird behaviour? Btw. I´m using version 1502.

I've upgraded from an E6700 that I could OC safely to 3.4 Ghz, to a Q9650 that will not OC at all. Not even a 5% OC. Any attempt to OC, the computer will not even attempt to boot.My motherboard is an ASUS P5N-D which I've upgraded from a P5N-E SLI, the cooler is a Arctic Cooler 7 Pro. This Q9650 Idles in the 50C range according to CoreTemp. The ASUS Probe shows a CPU temp of 61C at Idle. Running Prime 95my temps with CoreTemp are in the 60C range ASUS Probe shows 70C or so.Has anyone else had trouble OC the Q9650?Thanks,Donald E. Donovan

  16. I have been experiencing this phenomenon, and so I think I will stay at 4 GHz. I admit, it's frusterating to see you guys at 5+ GHz and me stuck at 4, but I'm not willing to deal with the hassles this board will throw at me.Someone wrote about PLL voltage in the GB forums:"Please disable CPU PLL Overvoltage. This setting is *incompatible* with S3 sleep on *ALL* known P67 motherboards. Intel has admitted this is an issue with the microcode and NOT a motherboard issue. PLL Overvoltage is a special method to get higher multipliers to work that were not originally designed to work, and putting the computer to sleep causes (whatever PLL overvoltage actaully changes---note, it …

Hi guys, Today I got the parts for my SB upgrade. So I started and did it. I have successfully changed the MOBO, the CPU and the RAM and also the POST works. Then I get the windows loading screen and the startup fails. Windows tells me :Error 0xc000000e: Error on startup. No access to necessary parts. I think this is related to my HDD. Could it be a problem that I attacched my 3 GB/s HDD to a 6GB/s plug or are they backwards compatible?Guys, I need some help, I´m desperate!

In Corey's SB mobo experience thread I wrote I've been having a sudden onset of BSOD's. I have loaded optimized BIOS settings and all settings are back to normal. A bit frustrating cause I did enjoy FSX at 4.5 GHz but I really do need to get to the bottom of the BSOD. They started about 1.5 weeks after applying the overclock.I hope it's a simple voltage problem but I really don't know how to tell because nothing happened for that week and a half. Temps were around 65 at te very max when running OCCT, so I doubt it was a temp problem.Anyway, I'm going to run memtest boot CD, so if the guru's could follow this thread and hopefully help me get back to 4.5!!

Hi guys, I´m now finalizing the parts for my SB upgrade and yesterday I thought about my cooling system again. Currently I use a Scythe Mugen 2 as CPU cooler (Works quite well and is very silent.) and an Cooler Master 120mm case fan (Don´t know which one.). I think my temps are a bit too high despite of the CPU cooler. In this moment, my system is idle, I get temps between 35°C and 42°C and in FSX it hardly hits the 60°C. I think this can be better. I tracked this problem down to my rear case fan, which is delivering too less air than my cooler needs. (The big cooler block sits just behind the case fan.)Now looked arround the net for an adequat fan, but I´m completely los…

Hi,I bought a new computer 3 weeks ago. Sandy bridge OC 4.6. I was very happy with its performance, untill it started to freeze at start up. I had to restart it which triggered the automatic repair tool. A restoration was then launched which was successfull. Then it started to freeze again at start up and so on. I thought that one windows update was the culprit. I uninstalled some of them, to no avail. Then I thought that one of my FSX related program had deteriorated windows seven. I spent one week trying to figure out which program was behind my problem, to no avail. But yesterday my computer would not perform any restorations and refused to start. Reluctantly, I deci…

Hi,I have FSX on an older 7200 rpm WD SATA drive and may upgrade depending on bang for the buck. I was curious if having a slow hard drive can affect FPS and smoothness. I currently running a QX9650 mildly oc'd to 3.6 and my Graphics Card is a GTX285 1gig.This is not hi-end anymore as I am sure you will agree. I am using DDR-2 memory and again middle of road at this time. My HD is the oldest piece in the box. I was wondering if I went to an SSD like one of the new PCI-E offerings, would this help with smoothness or would it just do the inital load quicker? I am not sure if the rest of the system is waiting while the HD chugs along and provides some data. I have been ar…

I have always had FS on a separate "e" drive for reasons posted in the forums.I think my e drive just took a dive. The computer is 4 years old and I am biding my time waiting for the possibilty of newer version of FS or at least to get thru the summer when I rarely use it.Then I may upgrade.I have lots of room on my c drive so i am thinking of just eliminating e drive for now . Is there a noticeable advantage to have FS on separate drive? Thanks,Ron
