Because i want to upgrade my work PC (I do 3D solids), it gives me a perfect excuse to upgrade my FSX rig, so i am going to move my i7-950 + m/b over to my work PC and put a i7-2600K sysem into my FSX rig. Here's where i don't know what would be the best way to go.I have two EVGA-GTX460 Factory overclocked (1024mb x 3800mhz) cards in my existing FSX rig so i really don't want to throw money at a 580 and waste at least 1 perfectly good video card which is not that far behind later cards. In other words a lot more money (wasted and spent) for how much more gain?I have also read (since a hasty purchase) that 2 cards + SLI really doesn't do much for FSX (Am i right?).So i am …

So I can bash my PC to bits...I can't take it anymore... 3559 errors/warnings in only 2 months! Just today I got a BSOD (something about 0000006 DX - probably direct x related) while FSX was idle. I jsut started up the program, walked away for a few moments, and came back to a pretty BSOD. Then I run FSX again with the nvidia inspector monitor panel up and it CTD's with NTDLL.dll error - precious! If they made store bought PC's that would run FSX I'd buy one and replace it with this POS. What the heck is wrong with my systems? Is it:1) PSU2) Mobo3) RAM4) DX drivers5) GPU drivers6) other system drivers?Look how many combinations of doom there is!!It's not that hard to …

Hi there,My system is an Intel Core due E8400 3.0ghz (not overclocked), 1333 Fulhd lga 775 ati rs600, ddr2 giga, 2gb ram, Vista 64bit, 650w psuI recently upgraded my graphics card from a Gforce 9500gt to a GTX460 and since I made the switch have been experiencing OOMS. These take the form of the little box popping up saying 'Your computer has run out of memory. FS9 will now close' or words to that effect. I have also had the BSOD with memory management error appear although lately this has not been happening. The error normally occurs when switching between different airports (for example resting after a complete reinstall) but also occurs when trying to complete a flight…

I have tried at 4.1 and 4.2 just is not stable only at 4.0. fsx on its own separate drive, 2 velcoraptors Operating system on its own dirve, gtx 285, 6 gb memory running at 9,9,9. My temps are in the upper 50's for all 4 cores running at fsx. I get a few stutters but nividia inspector helps out quite a bit, and also uses Nicks tid bits as well. Also have a 1,000 watts of power. Now this my diilema I was thinksing of the 2600kl but its a pain in the neck to reinstall everything or if I went…

Hey guys, yesterday i finished my new rig, installed FSX and is fine, from my previous Q9550@4GHZ and GTX 275, the main difference is how smooth the sim is now, and i locked fps in 30, and never drops, in a quick take off from KLGA, because my old rig was not good at this area, of course, no tweaks, addons, nothing installed, i will spend today and tomorrow for install all the things. And, install things and loading times is AMAZING compared with C2Q, i dont know if it is because of Sata3 drive, or the processor, but the system is really amazing, well, compared with my old. and i tested FSX with the same AA settings, 8xSQ.Now the Questions, my memory is a G.skill RipjawsX…

Hello all,I have been following a thread on 'PMDG General' section of this forum regarding iMacs, unfortunately that discussion seems to have run cold.So I thought I'd ask the question on a more relevant section.Has anyone one had any experience running FSX (via Bootcamp) on the 2011 Sandy Bridge iMacs? And if so, how does FSX perform? Also if anyone has a similar spec'd PC and/or has a good idea how the new iMac may perform I'd appreciate your views? I am looking to buy a 27" i7 @ 3.4GHz (no over-clocking on a Mac).I am not looking for a debate on the pros and cons of buying a Mac and not a PC, my profession dictates that I use a Mac. So I'd appreciate views and experienc…

  10. My machine has taken on a rather strange fault. I will be online flying with my friends and BAM, my computer shuts itself off. It does not CTD or begins shutting itself down, but one second full power, next dark and silent. It happens at anywhere on the GHZ spectrum, from 4.4GHZ where I operate daily to 5Ghz for FSX. Very Strange. Last evening I unplugged everything and then replugged it all back again - No difference. Any Ideas? Kind regards,

Just watching a few build videos from Newegg and they recommend testing the system outside of the case (on the MB box) before installing into the case. The purpose is to ensure there are no DOA components. Just wondering if all of you do this ?thanks,Mark.

CoolerMaster HAF922 case with 5 cooling fans, CoolerMaster GeminII cpu heatsink/fan, Win7 64 Enterprise.I'm looking to OC to 4.8Ghz or thereabouts: as I add more layers to my FSX experience (REX, GEX about to add FSG) I'm noticing a drop in frames, want to keep them at 30+.I followed the instructions here: http://hardforum.com...d.php?t=1578110 and reboot the machine. Running the CoreTemp application, it still states 3.3Ghz as the frequency. I downloaded and ran Prime95, and temps quickly went to 90+ and I started getting overheat warnings. I think this topic has come up a few times over the last couple months and perhaps it's best to address it head on... not that I have any answers. There's certainly lots of good technical information on those forums and I would agree that perhaps things have been a little watered down over here. While NickN and other hardware gurus may be familiar with specifications and their effect on FSX, I think the AVSIM hardware forum has just been on a different track. Think of it as a performance vs specification approach or perhaps empirical vs rational method.Specification, for example, would dictate that the 580 is hands down a better GPU for FSX than the 560. And I have no dou…

  21. Hi! I've been trying to resist it, but I think the geek in me have won. I'm thinking of upgrading my i7 950 to Sandy bridge after seeing the 10-average-fps-jump in the FS11Mark thread.I have 3 questions:1. The 2600K costs about 150USD more compared to the 2500K, where I live. I'd like to keep my upgrade as cheap as possible because my inner cheapskate (the one that lost against the geek) is telling me that it was less than half a year ago since my big i7 upgrade. Damn that sounded schizophrenic lol. So is the 2600K with its HT really worth the extra cost? Is there any performance gain in FSX?EDIT: Just saw that this question has been asked before, 2500K it is then, am I r…

Curious if anyone is using or has opinions. I was looking at the R3 @ $110. I'm sitting next to the thing all day long and prefer something that's as quiet as possible, but still will cool an SB/2600K @ say 4.6, a GTX 580 and a couple of drives. I also see they have an "arc" model but it doesn't appear to be on sale yet. The arc has more cooling options, but I suppose more mesh = more noise and it also has an FP USB 3.0 where the R3 only has USB 2.0. I'm probably looking at a Corsair H70 for CPU cooling so it has to accommodate that as well.scott s..

Just wondering if anyone has experience with the open box deals at newegg... I saw that they still would allow a return within 30 days, but the other policies on missing accessories and satisfaction (lets say, on a monitor, I find 2 dead pixels) has scared me away. I'm finding good deals on monitors and motherboards. If this build is going to be for the next 5 years, maybe just buy new?
