Hello,I m wondering if you could help me with the following :Which GPU would you consider better for FSX ? - NVIDIA Geforce GT 430 with 2Gb of RAM or- ATI Radeon 5770 with 1 Gb of RAM ?I know that both of them are a bit outdated, but these are the only available options for the moment. Thanks a lotNek

I just got the GF EFIS and added it to the MCP PRO last night. It's fantastic! I can't believe how well it works. However, I am baffled by the physical set-up because there seems to be no standing support bracket for the EFIS because I took one of the brackets of the MCP PRO to fit the EFIS on to it. The MCP PRO has a support bracket on the right but on the left side where the EFIS is located, there is nothing because there is nowhere to attach a bracket.I've written to GoFlight to ask what I am missing but thought I'd post here and ask if anybody else has had this issue and figured it out. Thanks!JS

so i have the sandybridge 2500k in my computer and will be overclocking. I need some guidelines that I should follow (like max temps., voltage, and an appropriate and safe clock speed for running fsx at very high settings)Also what should I use to monitor these temps, voltage, etc.

I am like many others in this community - always searching for the "perfect" system and upgrading to the latest and greatest. So I have a question for you - What do you do with your old hardware when you upgrade? Personally, I've used old parts to build 3 systems and gave them to people who didn't have a decent computer. Sometimes, I just throw the parts out - ebay is too much hassle. So what is the consensus of the Avsim group - what happens to old but still good hardware?Thanx,Vic

I have been playing fsx on my HP HDX16 laptop for quite some time. I can get about 15-20FPS with addons like Wilco ERJ,737pic, PMDGj41, and QW757. I also use REX and multiple airport sceneries (flytampa and FSDT), however i never fly into jfk or east coast very much just because I know my computer cant handle it.But my laptop has finally come to an end with extreme overheating issues and just cant run FSX anymore with the addons I keep installing. So I have decided to retire my laptop from FSX and and build a new rig. I dont want to cut corners to save a quick buck, I would rather invest in a really good system that can run FSX well and allow me to fly into larger airport…

Just plonked down eight-bills for an i5-2500/4GB Corsair Dominator RAM/560GTX 1GB card/ASUS MB. The price includes tax and installation at my local computer dude (a good guy that I know well). Ditching my E6700/8800GTS setup but keeping my Antec 900 case and PSU. Can't wait to fire it up, should be here Wednesday. Because I'm not that bright, I ordered the i5-2500 and not the i5-2500K. I figure I'm too stupid to OC and I'd just fry my rig, but am I really missing out on that big a deal? Is OC-ing easy enough for a total boob to pull off without killing his new equipment? Should I be calling up my computer dude first thing in the morning and try to get the "K" CPU or jus…

What does the QPI Link do? Ive googled it but its a bit vague so I though I would ask here. I looked in my Bios and it in auto mode which shows as 5.7. It has 36 .44 and 48 settings Im just wondering if its worth setting it at one of these or just leaving it at auto. AIDA64 is reporting it at 3300Mhz and it does not change.I have also bumped up my CPU to 3.6ghz (44c idle 68c in Prime95 8xthread) and its very stable, but knocking it up to 3.86ghz there is an annoying high pitch whine (its not the fans) thats only just audiuble but is that a sign that its not happy? It sounds like one of those cheap dog whistles that no one is supposed to be able to hear but can.

Hi folks!Ive started building my Intel i5 1155 computer today, and I dont know if I made a terrible mistake, but heres whathappened:As I was placing my CPU down on the motherboard, I aligned the arrows and everything seemed fine. As I placed it in there itdid not sit correctly, but was kinda off track. I had to realign it, and did so carefully. While I did that I hearda tiny little scraping sound that made me panic. However, as I was strapping the CPU in by pulling down the lever that thightensit into its seat, I heard the same kind of scraping sound (as if metal was being scraped against metal). So perhaps everything is okay?Anyone who knows how little it takes to ruin a…

Hi their, Just got my old compaq desktop updated with a new motherboard and new CPU and some new DDR3 memory. Basically i have got the AMD X2 250 3.0ghz processer which i can overclock up to around 3.3-3.4ghz. I'am still running a old generation graphics card Nivdia 8400Gs. I was thinking about splashing out a bit more on the newish Nivdia GTX460? With the system i have got will FS2004 with a lot of scenery packs, and payware A/C run smooth at higher settings, or is this system still not powerful enough? Cheers, Tom

Hi all,I picked up a Thermaltake 760is and the adapter for the new socket for my new i7 2600K build, and I'm a bit confused as to why the manual wants me to route it the way it does. The manual says to run it through my HDD first, then on to the GPU, and then through the CPU. But that doesn't make sense to me. That would have the coolant entering the CPU block after collecting heat from the HDD and GPU blocks first. I would think that I should go through the CPU block first, while the coolant is at it's coolest point right out of the radiator. Am I wrong? Wouldn't it be best to have the CPU block receive the coolant while it's at it's coolest point? I don't normally quest…

I have an external Toshiba hd (160GB) where I have files related to FS.It's in the NFTS format. These are- FSX, UTX GEX.Also since my C drive has limited space, I installed a lot f FS2004 scenery here.Everything ran fine until yesterday.First the FSX icon on my desktop was greyed out. Clicking on it pops a window saying the connection cannot be made to the drive etc.The weirdest thing is that the external hd has been renamed (not by me!) to H. It was G before. If I tried to run FS2004 I had many windows pop up saying this or that scenery could not be found.(the ones placed on that renamed drive)I tried to figure out if I had done anything drastic on my pc.The only thing tha…

I've been thinking a lot about paying $1000 for a new computer. But because I only fly Fs9 (the only game I play, beside Counter Strike 1.6 ), the investment will be too large. So I decided to upgrade my old computer to a better one.The current one is in my signature which includesCPU Intel E5300 OC @ 4GhzMain Gigabyte P35-Ds3LRam 4x1GB DDR2-800VGA MSI HD4670 512mb 128bitPSU Acbel 450W A.PFCWill upgrading CPU to E8400 and vga to 9800GT(or GTX) help improve my Fs9 framerates? Of course I'll try to overclock as much as possible. Since my E5300 already stable at 4Ghz, I wonder if E8400 ( OC @4Ghz) can do better and give better FPS.I really need your advise :D Thanks!

Hello,This is a repost from the video card forum. Didn't get an aswer there. Maybe someone can help here. TIAAfter a long hiatus, I'm getting back into simming. The setup that I'm thinking o putting together consists of:- Intel i5 2500k (looking into OC)- Asus P8P67 Pro Rev. 3- 4GB X 2 PC3 16000 RAM- SSD for FSX- 750W or 850W depending on card selection(s).I'm a little confused as of which video card I should be getting. I'm planning on doing eventually a 3 monitor setupand probably would be going the TH2GO route. Greetings to all!I have decided to build my first PC with the hope that i will be able to switch to FSX and run it better (and at less cost) than upgrading to another pre-built PC (currently have a Dell). I am not that PC literate but have been reading / researching the posts on this forum for a couple of months to get better educated and help make the decision(s) on which components to purchase. I do not need to have all sliders set max to the right, but do wish to have a system that can take most of what FSX (including some add-ons) can throw at it and perform quite well. I have decided to purchase an i7-2600k and a GeForce 570 or 580 video card. From reading the fo…
