Can't really afford an SSD big enough for FSX but... Windows and all other apps, only take up about 54Gb. Do the rules about filling up HDD apply to SSD? Can I use a 60Gb SSD to the max? Thanks, I really appreciate all the help

My son just came into possession of a better computer then the one he has now. Long story short a friend of his gave it to him but it doesn't have a hard drive. He wants me to take the hard drive from his current computer and put it into this newer one. Is it possible to do that or will that create problems with the difference in components?

Hi guys and thanks for all your help so far. I'm pulling the pieces together on paper, and was just wondering... I usually stick with ASUS for motherboard. Is there any advantage these days in also getting an ASUS video card for sure compatability, or does it really make no difference? Thanks

Since building my new computer the following issues have come up: 1) On startup about 1 out of 10 times the video card starts distorted, pixilated almost like you would see with a defective card. I generally corrects itself and goes away after a minute or two. This happens at the BIOS screen as well so not a Windows problem. I have contacted ASUS tech support and they suggested using an eraser to clean the contacts and try again. That has not fixed the problem. Next step is to try a different slot, which I will try but I wonder if that will affect my computers performance ? If that fails its RMA time. 2) Despite what I consider great system specs, I still get two ty…

Hello!I am contemplating upgrading my PC system in favor of my beloved FS9 (FS2004)As of now I run an obsolete system standard from 2003-2004 with a single core AMD FX-55 processor,2 gigs of RAM and an old ATI X-800 graphics card, all manufactured around 2003.So now I wonder if anyone could tip me if there is any point in upgrading (buying a new system)with today's standards (multicore processor, more RAM, a PCI-Express video card, etc.) just for my FS9?Would performance be any better with regard to framrates especially..... a.s.o.I would be grateful for advice and experience regarding this. Thanks a lot in advance.Hans HermanssonSweden

Hello, I have got a AMD 965 x4 BE, running in stock 3.4. Today I load FSX, on cold and dark, and meantime I had to check something on task manager, then noticed CPU start using 100 percent for like 10 seconds. Process was FSX. But in FSX, it was cold and dark, also no AI, no Airport vehicle, so almost no movement at all. Then I gave more test, different aircrafts, different airports, but it is exactly same, even timing same, every a minute, CPU goes to 100 percent for 10 seconds, and drops to idle. Just cant figure out, what make FSX use 100 percent CPU while nothing going on. I use decent graphic settings, and disabled preload, also AMD cool and quite is disabled, nothi…

Hello everyone,I just landed a nice job which enables me to purchase new hardware sooner than I thought. Some months earlier I had to buy a new machine as my old one broke down. My current setup is:AMD Athlon II X2 250Nvidia GTS 4504GB 1333MHz DDR-3 RAMIt works very well for both FS9 and (surprisingly) FSX). I would still like to upgrade my system as follows,Intel Core i7 2600K (3,4GHz) and another 4GB of RAM, as I heard FSX (and FS9) are more dependent on the CPU and RAM as on the GPU. Would you recommend this change, and would I get a noticeably better performance? Or should I rather go for a complete overhaul which would include a new GPU as well (GTX 590 most likely …

Generally I follow this forum for awhile before making any sort of upgrade but in this particular instance I need to upgrade quickly, I had a power outage/ spike while performing a windows update that caused a BSOD. So seeing how I am going to need to re-install my OS I might as well upgrade. My current system is only a year old so most of it I can re-utilize. I am going to swap out my MB, Processor, RAM and add some more storage and would appreciate any comments on these components. The processor seems simple enough 2600K Sandy Bridge. The MB I am looking at is an ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z It’s a bit spendy but looks solid.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx…

Ok guys, I think it's time for me to perhaps start looking into building a new FSX machine. My current machine is 3 years old but my setup is not your normal FS setup.I am in the middle of building a B737-800 full size cockpit simulator and as such, my FS machine will display ONLY the scenery (no 2D/3D panels at all). I have other smaller PCs which take care of the B737-800 Sim-Avionics Suite being displayed on the Main Instrument Panel. With this being said, what would be a good PC for FSX using today's technology on a setup where FSX will only be used to display scenery and use a default B737-800 airfile?Just for comparison, here is what I have right now:Intel E8400 OC'e…

I have two processors right now, the i7 965 and the i7 970. I plan to leave everything at stock settings. Both of them have a 3.2GHz clock speed, however the 965 is an "extreme" 45nm quad-core and the 970 is a 32nm hex-core. Which one would perform better with FSX?Thanks in advance.

Hi guysI'm looking at putting a new rig together, but I'm not really sure I understand the differences between the boards.I've always liked Asus, and see no reason to change. There's at least three Z67 boards for the i7-2600k that I can see.You guys seem to know your stuff pretty well - Does it really matter which I opt for?Don't suppose I'm gonna need a double vid card option for FSX?Help appreciatedCheersEDIT: Some PSU advice and recommendations would help too :Big Grin:
