Hi there,In light of PMDG's release I decided it was time for a new system. I've been reading posts here for days and learned that I'm not the PC wiz I used to be, that's why I'm asking my fellow avsimmers for help. I saw that Nick posted a video in the PMDG NGX forum with the following specs (video was super smooth in the 30 FPS range despite fraps:Processor: i5 2500K @ 4.4GHzVideo Card: GTX 480RAM:8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24300GB WD VelociraptorCorsair HX850WI found this system on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229262&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-Desktop%20PC-_-CyberpowerPC-_-83229262&AID=10440897&PID=3087823&…

Title says it all really. i7 has more cores but is 2.0 GHz i5, is 2.3GHz and I have heard that for FSX a faster one is better regardless of cores (both can be overclocked to 2.9GHz but I am reluctant to do this). Thanks,

In preperation for the much anticipated ngx, i'm considering upgrading my current system:i7-920 OC: 3.93 GHZ8gb DDR3 RamNvidia Geforce GTX 260Matrox TH2Go, 3X22" e machines @ 5040X1080EVGA X58 moboWestern Digital 7200rpm 1TB HDafter doing some research, i'm debating whether to upgrade to the i7-950 and OC to 4GHZ+ or buy a second GTX 260, SLI the two, and use their "surround gaming" software to span fsx across the three monitors, or buy a GTX 400 series video card with the matrox th2go.however, people claim that fsx is more CPU than GPU dependent, and thats where im confused with what to do. Should I purchase a second 260 and sli it, a 460 with the matrox, or just upgrade…

Beautiful board. I'm just a little confused about which SATA ports to use for what....? If any owners could through some light on that I'd appreciate it. The manual is very short on 'user friendly' info. Cheers

Been running my new computer with OC just fine for weeks and just today experienced SBOD flying the ConcordeX over the Atlantic. Now I did change my video card from Slot #1 to Slot #3 in order to trouble shoot a potential video card issue. Any chance this could be the cause ? After making this hardware change I did not update the drivers or anything. Mark.

because Switchable Graphics recently became broken with the release of newer drivers from HP/ATI and there is no "going back. The problem has been going on for several weeks with no fix in sight, so while I loved the performance of my FIRST DV6 with FSX, the second one wouldn't switch to the Radeon card and HP has no fix. the first DV6 ran FSX fantastically well--no micro stutters and I had very good frame rates. Due to defects in both laptops I returned them for refunds.I am in desperate need of a new PC, so my question is this: will a desktop PC with a Intel® Core i7-960 quad-core [3.2GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]and a 1GB DDR5 Radeon HD 6850 [2 DVI, 2 mini…

Hello there, three years have passed since I set up my FS9 on my simming PC. Actually it is a WinXP box with SP2 and some other windows patches. Video card is a 8800GTS with 640MB, drivers are a 175.xx release. It has been connected to the internet very few times (just add-on activations), so I never executed Windows Update. Now I kindly ask if there would be any performance increase (or decrease) in applying SP3 and all the other windows patches.Video drivers are stick at 175.xx since I read many posts stating that new driver releases were useful for newer GPUs only, so I don't bothered with the new releases. Sorry if this has been asked before, a forum search led me to …

Well i made my last purchase for my latest upgrade to my FSX rig. I bought a GTX560Ti DS - 1024Mb - Superclocked (900Mhz GPU)Still i am getting FPS hits climbing out of KBOS & KJFK (Defualt+UTX+REX2 Textures+20% UT2 Traffic) sometimes dipping to 10FPS momentarily. I don't know if it is GPU or CPU related , but it is frustrating the hell out of me.I have used Ryan's 8SQ Inspector set up & Bojote's Auto Configurator which has given me great visual quality, so with my specs, what am i doing wrong? I am not the brightest when it comes to the software tweaking side of things so i really need help hereI might add that my sliders are modestly set and i have internally se…

Just wanting to know how important adding heatsinks and fans are to your build. My case already has great cooling with screens everywhere and a large fan on the back for dissipating heat. Nothing to draw cooling in though. I do plan on doing some overclocking. thanks Drew

Hello guys, Im pretty new to computer upgrading etc so go easy on me just looking for a little advice please.Right, I have a packard Bell intel core 2 quad Q8300 on a EG43M Motherboard. Now I know I am VERY restricted to what I can upgrade on this as its prebuilt (dont shoot me had it about 2 years I know I am silly), However I brought a GTX 560ti from Scan and a 650w PSU a few weeks back.I use FS9 (do have FSX but have never been able to get above 15 fps lol, and have been told I am bottlenecking quite badly with this as i am still getting poor FPS in flight simulators.I've been advised that flight Sims run mostly off CPU not GPU, so how can i go about upgrading this?Wo…

I've got a coworker assembling a system and he currently is planning on using the stock cooler with a i5 2500K. I told him... you don't want to do that lol. He's also getting a Z68based mobo. So, since he's sorta on a budget, I recommended the Coolermaster 212 for a HSF. But he's using the Gskill ripjaws memory with those semi tall heat spreaders. Does anyone know of the 212 will fit with the RAM in the slots?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

In January of this year I upgraded my computer with the i7 930 with a Ghz of only 2.5, but I have found that 2.5 Ghz doesn't seem to be enough to handle the power of FSX. I just wanted to know will I have to get a new motherboard to upgrade to a higher Ghz or is it just the CPU which I need to upgrade?

Hi all- So I recently purchased a Dell XPS Studio 17 laptop with the following specs:i7 2820QM A 2.4 Ghz with Turbo Boost to 3.4Ghz16GB DDR3 RAMNvidia 555M 3GB Video CardDual 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drives I didn't buy it for gaming, but I was secretly hoping that it would be able to run FSX pretty decently, as I had read that some laptops are able to run the game ok. After installing the game and the addons (GEX, REX, ASE, PMDG747, Level D 767...etc.) I was pretty disappointed at the performance I was getting. The FPS were in the mid-teens, and the game was completely unplayable, as it stuttered like no other. I have done a few hours worth of tuning (CFG tweaks and defrags mo…

Just as it says. Those that have the Z68 MB, have you tested your 2500K or 2600K with just the internal video? What were the results, stock and overclocked. Looking to see if a low power option (without external video card) is a viable option. An approach to Seattle from the north where you have Seattle, Boeing Field and Seatac in the VC screen would be very enlightening. Right now my Core 2 Duo at 3.0 GHZ, a 9800GTX, and medium settings yields me 10 FPS or less (unplayable for me). Am looking to upgrade. Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking of replacing my old and broken TrackIR 4 with a new TrackIR 5 just in time for the release of PMDG's NGX. Any tips on where I can get one as cheap as possible since since money tend to be needed elsewhere this time of year. I'm in Sweden.TIA,

Hello all With the new PMDG 737 about to be released I think I may need to upgrade my old core2duo PC to a nice new shiny i7-2600k. What I will be replacing is the MB with most likely an Asus P867-Pro. The CPU with an i7-2600k and a cooler to match. I should be able to overclock with these MB and CPU? I've never really tried OC before so it is mostly a mystery to me at the moment. The GPU with an NVidia 570 and the memory. The problem is, I'm not really sure what sort of memory I need. All those clock speeds and numbers just confuse the hell out of me so if anyone with a bit of knowledge could recommend some sticks that would be a great help. I figure I will be needing 8G…

Hi again! My previous post got some useful tips and advice replies, but maybe I should be a little more specific about what I am aiming at. My current system is from 2004 (the year); an AMD FX-55 single core 2600 mHz, 2GBs of RAM, an ATI X800 video card; a system which works fine, but doesn't cope with certain FS2004 addons, such as FSDreamteam's wonderful airports. With them (e.g. KJFK, KLAX, etc.) I get typically 13-15 fps using a lot of AI traffic (which I always want to use). So, specifically, what could I expect in the way of better performance (fps) if I upgrade my system to today's standards? My previous post says what system I have in mind (AMD processor, ATI vid…

In order to save some money on my new build, I went digging around the house and found an old DVD R/RW drive I bought from some guy years ago that I never installed. It says it was manufactured in 2003. There are no cables or anything with it, I'm not sure if those are provided by the motherboard. Will this still work?
