Hi;I'm a complete and utter newbie when it comes to overclocking; I have a pretty decent PC but if there's a way to squeeze even more out of it, I'm keen to learn more about it.I have no idea how to go about this overclocking thing, but first, a very simple question: How much FPS will I gain? I know you'll probably need specs for an exact answer, but I'm typing on a laptop on holiday and don't have me specs with me. All I'm asking is a general idea; are we looking at a gain of 8 or 80 percent? Thanks in advance,

I am running FSX at frame rates that are lower than I would like (5-20), and I am trying to identify which component(s) in my system to upgrade. So here is the description of my machine, with everything (I hope) that is pertinent:AMD Phenon II X4 955 Processor (3.2 GHz - not currently overclocked)8GB Kingston 1333 RAM (9-9-9), but programmable down to 6 (I haven't tried to yet)2GB of additional RAM, but I don't have the specs on it handy (willing to look them up)OCZ 55GB Primary Hard DriveIntel 40GB Secondary Hard Drive (FSX installed here)2TB RAID 0 Hard Drive (A bit of MegaEarth California scenery is installed here)AMD Radeon 6790 Video CardThree ViewSonic VX2450 Monito…

Hi folks, after adding the second monitor a few days back, I´ve encountered 2 power losses on my system. It´s like someone took the plug out. In one moment I fly at FL360 above Glacier Bay towards Juneau and in the next moment... BOOOM! Monitors go black and system is rebooting. I think it´s my grafic card in connection with my crappy 420W PSU. The GFX card is drawing too much because of the second monitor and the PSU is too weak to give enough. Could this be the problem? Has anyone a good ans not that expesnive PSU seen? I think 600W and I´m safe.

Hello,I'm looking for some help from the experts. I recently built a SB computer and think I may have made a mistake regarding the allocation of my programs. I put W7 and FSX on my 80GB SSD because I like the quick load speeds. But now I'm running out of room with ORBX, REX, ETC and I'm wondering if it's possible to keep further scenery installs on my 1.5GB HDD while maintaining FSX program files on SSD? Will there be any conflicts or loading problems if I were to do this? Also, are there special configuration tips that anyone may have? I've got two other NA scenery's from ORBX that i'd like to install and i'm down to less than 10GB on my SSD so I'm pretty much maxed out.…

Hello All, I have overclocked my i7 920 to 4.1 and am running CPU z hardware monitoring. My 4 cores usually hover around 53C but occasionally get up to 63-65C. Is this OK? I have one of the better CPU air coolers. Regards,Steve.

I currently run a 150GB HDD as C:\ for normal O/S & boot drive activity. I use a second, 500GB HDD for all my gaming installs, including FSX. As I have added more FSX content scenery, weather, mesh etc I have noticed slower loading times and slower scenery/drawing times while flying. Will I have a better FSX experience if I replace the boot drive with an SSD and load FSX exclusively on a second SSD; including scenery, mesh, addon's etc? Does this even make any sense? I am considering getting 2 128GB SSD's for this project. If it does make sense, any recommendations on which SSD's to get and any configuration input would be greatly appreciated. I do plan to keep my cur…

Hello Everyone, A couple of years ago I upgraded to an i7 920 2.66 oc'd to 3.2, 6GB of Mushkin redline 1600 RAM and an nVidia GTX 285. At the time it was the ants pants and improved things a lot but still with FTX sceneries, REX and high-end aircraft the sliders still had to be brought back. How much improvement can I expect to see by only changing the CPU to a Sandy Bridge i7 2600K mildly overclocked to maybe 4.0? (I know this also means a new mobo - different socket). Secondly, will changing my GTX 285 to a GTX 580 make any difference? I believe FSX is largely CPU dependant. Thanks,Steve.

Have spent a few years on FS9 with my shabby laptop, and after spending many an hour on Youtube since the recent addition of the FSX i5-2500k videos, I've finally made the step up to FSX with the purchase of the following machine: <pre> CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.7Ghz CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Frio Operating System: Microsoft® Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68A-D3 Memory: 8.0GB Corsair DDR3 1600mhz Vengeance (2 x 4G…

Hi There, hoping someone out there can shed some light on my problem. System as in sig, MSI P67A-C45 mobo, i2500k, 4gb Mushkin Ram, GTX460 etc.Was using it the other night, when I got a crash saying "Parity Error". Switched the system completely off. Tried to power up today, was spinning up but not posting, then restarting itself like a bad overclock. I then cleared the CMOS. Still the same, tried removing either stick of RAM, still the same, no video signal, nothing.Driving me scatty, anyone any ideas?

  11. So I finaly bit the bullet and got a G940. I really think I'm gonna like it but I haven't had alot of success getting the thing set up. So... Here's what I'm seeing. All the basic pitch/roll/rudder/throttle/mixture/propeller controls work fine in FSX (although I have yet to get FSX to see the trim knobs/wheels). The buttons are the issue. If I go into game controllers settings in Win 7, or in the profiler, all the axis and buttons are there and work as advertised. Once I get into FSX, most of the buttons don't work at all. So I try to set up the controls while in the game and what I have found is that all the buttons that don't work, show up in the game as keyboard entrie…

Hello,In the past I have not paid much attention to speakers, sound card etc but with the release of the 737NGX for fsx I am looking into some new sound stuff, namely, new speakers, sound card, and headphones. Speakers: 2.1 or 5.1 surround? Is a surround sound fully compatible with fsx? Any recommendations?Card: I know nothing about sound cards and what makes one better than another. Will the sound card be determined by the speaker set? (i.e. are only some surround compatible)? Again-primarily looking for recommendations on which card to get. I am using 2GB DDR3 1333 Mhz a module by Dynet , I was trying out the default 737-800 in FSX @KLGA with Manhattan X. Under Task Manager FSX is using up 1.3 GB of RAM should I buy more RAM then. And can I mix the current module with a Corsair or a G.skill 2GB 1333 Mhz ? I honestly can not spend right now for any thing higher at least for the next few months. My Specs are in my sig.

  15. Hello, I wanna build a computer, but I'm not sure what CPU to get on a budget. I was just wondering how an AMD Phenom II X4 965 (Oc'd @4ghz) would perform against a locked Intel i5 2400 at stock 3.1ghz? I would like to know because it's really not looking like I'll be able to afford an i5 2500k right now.

Most commonly when Im watching videos on youtube. Also my computer makes a distinct clicking sound at start up and shutdown every single time. What is going wrong :(

I think I will be going for a Intel 2500K + 4Gb of PC16000 (2x2gb strips) but I really not sure which MB to go for, I will at a later stage want to over clock the CPU so as I understand it I can't go for a 1155 "H" board, I am on a tight budget so which mother board should I go for?Does it matter as long as it has all the connection that I need? My system at the moment is: - AMD6400+ BE 4GB of PC6400 & a 9800GTX+ 512MB, 550W PSU.Will my 9800GTX+ Hold my new system when build back? would a 560Ti run well with my new spec?Sorry for so many question but need some help as I don't want to wastes my money…

Hi all, I have bought the PMDG 737NGX and heard a lot of people say that Windows 7 x64 is really needed to enjoy the 737 properly. I currently have XP x32 on my system. Does anyone know if i'll lose all my information, documents, programs etc installing Windows 7? If so, is there any way round it? Sorry about putting it in this forum, wasn't sure which one to stick it in. Thanks.

I'm looking at doing a bit of an update for my current machine.I've found all the right components I want to upgrade so far, but I'm struggling on finding the right motherboard. I've currently got an i5 750 @2.67ghz, but it's incredibly restricted by a boring ol' Dell motherboard.I want to be able to overclock to at least 3.5ghz but to do this, I obviously need a decent motherboard. I want to try and keep it below a £100 budget if possible.Any recommendations? So far, I've found the following board, but I'm not too sure on it:http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-P7P55-LX-Express-PCI/dp/B002R02J5K/Also, I need to have 4 slots for ram, as I currently have 3x2gb.Thanks.

  24. Hey guys, I want to build a computer for everyday computing and FSX, but I have a pretty tight budget of only $690 (excluding monitor). However, I'm a little worried that I won't get very good performance out of FSX with such a tight budget. Anyways, I was hoping that some of you guys could give me advice on what parts to get for my build that would give me maximum performance out of FSX for my budget. Thanks in advance. :)

  25. Hi guys I have just ordered a rig to build (specs in the signature) and i would like to know what kind of FPS do you get with these types of hardware. I have seen FSX vids of builds with components like mine with decent FPS in the 30s on highest settings and i want to do that to set all the settings on there maximum with a frame rate intensive plane and really intensive scenery is this possible with this build? Also i have bought a hybird SSD along with a 1TB Samsung F3 (Currently the fastest HDD in the market) what would the best way about doing things with this be because the Hybird is actually slower then the F3 but is it also, Do i install the OS and FSX on the Hybird…
