I currently have i7-950 OC@ 4.3Ghz and GTX 580 and 6GB RAM. But my FSX gets 5-25 FPS on airport that has addons. So I was wondering if I should upgrade my system to Sandy Bridge i7 because I have heard many simmers talked about SB and they seem very happy about it. I would be very happy about some opinion. Thank you. :)

Usng Easy Tune, I boosted my computer up to 4.1 but am now having total system freezes. I OC'd it yesterday and its has now happened 3 times. A couple of times it froze at random while on the internet. It just happened for the third time in the middle of a defrag. The mouse and keyboard are useless and I'm forced to shutdown. All the defrag activity was frozen as well, so its more than just a loss of peripherals. Problems keep adding up for me. Any ideas?

As a Newbie preparing to build my own rig, I fascinated by the sub-cultures of thermal compound application. Seems like there are a lot of ways to apply it, and advocates for the various methods. I wonder if some of the gurus here could give me their perspective. I've got an Asus P8Z68 V Pro MOBO, a Core I5 2500K processor and a Corsair A70 cooler. The compound I've got is Artic Alumina (I realize there are instructions on articsilver's website, but folks seem to have the own ideas) Thanks. Dan Cole

my system specs are : ive got a dualcore Pentium D 820 2.8ghz (@2.92 Ghz)AsRock 4coreDual VSTA motherboardNvidia geforce 8600 GT PCI-express550 watt PSUmain hdd is a 320gb SATA drivewith 2 80gb secondary IDE harddrivesand a crappy DVD drive there is more then enough ventilation, for everything in the tower, the CPU has not been more then 56 degrees C. I think I could overclock my CPU wayyy more then what it is at, Ive heard of ppl having the CPU that I have at 3.3ghz and higher, with no problems with just the stock heatsink. Sombody said that I should increase my Vcore voltage a bit to make the CPU more stable at higher clocks, but I went into my BIOS and there is no way …

I'm curious what everyone in here is running these days in the way of AA. Specifically transparency settings. I've found the absolute best compromise for myself at 8xQ and 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling. I honestly cannot tell a difference with 8x and 16xQ/32x. The 'xS settings tend to hurt frames for me when any heavy clouds are visible, and stutters tend to be prevalent at these settings as well.

Hi there, First all - apologies that this is just a repeat of tons of other requests. However, I am making the move onto FSX - finally and want a high end system that runs everything, full sliders, tons of addons - basically everything I could ever want in FSX. I have a budget of about £1700-1800 max and i'm considering a wired2fire system. These are my current thoughts: default caseCorsair CX600 600W Power Supply Core i7 2600K 8MB Cache Socket 1155 Titan Fenrir EVO CPU Cooler nVidia GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 (excellent alternative to HD 6970) nVidia GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 (excellent alternative to HD 6970) (i.e. x2) 8GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz C8 Dual Channe…

Realize the question's been asked before, but I'd like advice for my specific system. I've got a Samsung 64 GB SSD and a 1T WD Black HD. Where would you put: OS, FSX, ADDon aircraft, ADDON scenerey, ASE, UTX, RC, etc? Also, say Santa brings me a 128 SATA III SSD for Xmas to add to the other two, how would my configuration change. And doesn't some of this stuff have to go into the FSX folder-aircraft & scenery? Thanks Dan Cole

Hi all,I think I May have gone about this the wrong way, I have just put together my new system:- Zalman K9plus case, MSI GD53 MB, i5-2500k, cooler master hyper 212 plus ,4gb of Corsair pc1600 and a 450w power supply. Installed win7 64bit FSX+ Sp1,Sp2 ,NGX plus airport add-ons. I then overclocked the system to 4.6ghz by changing from x33 to x46 and then upping the volts to 1.285v, this work great in FSX flying NGX with traffic and add on airports at locked 30fps, only about 37-42c ( I was very very happy) but later I started to test my system using Intel burn and is blue screened very time I ran it. I have now had to turn volts up to 1.395v to be able to pass Intel bur…

Before you accuse me of spreading old news, I'm only trying to help some of the new guys with new builds who have been complaining about stutters and may not have seen this before. This may or may not work, I don't know. I will try it when I get home from work. Seems the folks in the Orbx forums have done this with great results. Actually, I suppose anyone could benefit from this. http://ultimatecomputers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3644

Hi. I recently made a thread asking for suggestion to my computer upgrade. I was going to upgrade to a i7 2600K and a Asus p8p67 Deluxe. I have 3 sticks of 2GB Mushkin Redline 1600Mhz CL6 ram, which gives me 3 options, 1: Keep them in flex mode (Dual channel + Single channel), 2: buy a new 2x2GB Kit of the same Ram and run them in 4x2GB, or 3: Buy a new kit of 2x4GB Ram. I've now made the purchase and the CPU, motherboard, and an Intel 320 160Gb SSD is waiting for me in their boxes :) The reason why I'm making this thread is that option 3 is actually cheaper for me, and I get to buy higher clocked 2x4GB ram sticks.I have 2 kits that I'm looking at which are cheaper than a…

Hi, So in prepartion for the NGX I've decided to buy a new computer system. Here in the local PC shop I asked what would be good to run what I want and what I need. The owner offerred me this; Processor: Phenom II X6 1055T 2,8Ghz AM3Motherboard: ASROCK AM3 N68-GE3 UCC+BGA/AM3/4x DDR3Memory: 16GB DDR3/2TBVideocard: Geforce GTS 450 2GBSystem: Windows 7, 64Bit So I expected high frames(25+) almost everywhere I want to fly. Today I started testing, I have UTX Europe installed, PMDG 747 and some airport add-ons. I loaded at Barcelona(Mega AIrport) with the PMDG 747 to see I only get 12 frame rates and sometimes lower. I am very dissapointed and it feels like I've just thrown …

Hello, OK, I don't care what you say, "oh no you shouldn't waste your money on an SSD for SRT", its what I am doing. It will help speed up the overall system performance, I am not looking to really improve FSX. Since I have to go down to PCCG I would like it to be from here if possible.http://www.pccasegear.com/What I am looking at is weather it'll matter getting a SATA II or SATA III for the SRT. Its only really there for caching and SATA II is still pretty quick. However I am also considering selling my RAM and getting these instead of the SSD:http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16934What would give me more performance boost overal…

I went into the BIOS to disable hyperthreading and came across a surprise. I pulled my MOBO user's manual which clearly shows you how to do it through the Advanced CPU Features Page, but I don't see the option to turn off CPU multi-threading as it illustrates in the manual. As a matter of fact, I only see half of the options the manual says it supports. Beside the CPU multi-threading in the manual there is a little note that states: This item is present only if you install a cpu that supports this feature. uhh ?
