Currently anticipating building a new PC. I mainly use FS9 now, but am wondering which build may be better suited for FS9 (or potentially FSX?). Thoughts on how either would run FS9 or FSX would be greatly appreciated. I do realize FS9 doesn't utilize dual-core, and that is why I'm throwing FSX into the mix. I also don't plan on doing any overclocking. Which build would you pick? Thanks! Hello,Less than a year ago I got a GTX470 card and I am very happy with it but now I have time (and money!) to upgrade everything else.So I'm getting a new motherboard (Z68), a new processor (I7-2600K) and 8Gb of DDR3 RAM memory.I just don't know what to do regarding a new graphics card. Should I get a GTX580 and "waste" the less than a year old GTX470 I already have or should I get another GTX470 and go with an SLI configuration?I'm assuming I would get better performance from the 580 BUT would it be a lot better than 2x470's?I have money for the 580 but don't know what to do... Anyone else had similar questiona when the time to upgrade came.Any advice welcome.Thank you …

MOBO is an ASUS P8Z68-VPRO-processor is I5-2500K. When I attempt to set any CPU voltage above 1.28 it shows up in red--below that shows up in black, like all the other settings. Does the red represent a warning? Should I not go above 1.28? Thanks. Dan Cole

So I'm thinking of doing a computer upgrade since FS2004 is becoming an obsolete program for me and I want to get on board with FSX and the PMDG 737NGX. My problem though is that my FPS are pretty low usually in the 10-20 scale (using the PMDG 737NGX, sliders set in a mid-range, 0% traffic and no addons of any sort). So know I am wondering what would be more important to update in order to achieve high performance: my cpu (Intel Pentium E5200 oc @ 3.06 ghz) or my graphics card (nvidia geforce GTS 250)? Also, just to add in, I have been looking at the intel i7 2600k as a new cpu (as well as a new MoBo since my current one isn't the right socket size). Anyways heres my spec…

I have FSX on a separate hard drive to Win7 and my Asus P5Q motherboard has an Intel ICH10R and a Silicon Image Sil5723 SATA storage controller. Is there likely any advantage to connecting my Win7 and FSX drives to separate controllers (I was planning Win7 to ICH10R and FSX to Sil5723), or is the system overhead not worth it?

I have a SB 2600k @ 4.5, 570 GTX (latest Nvidia drivers), 8 GB corsair XMS3 CL7-8-7 1600MHz and 120 GB SSD system only for FSX.I tried almost everything, read all the topics about stutters, microstutters, vsync and external FPS limiters, but still can't solve my problem.I have a fresh install of FSX (SP1 & SP2). When I use the default 737 on KSEA and take off the ground and autogen is stuttering. Only when I set FSX frame limiter to 60 FPS the flight is supersmooth when FPS are at 60. If the frames are below 60, I.E. at 40 FPS (limiter or unlimited), the stutters are back.I tried this with Vsync on (via Nvidia control panel and in fsx.cfg) and off (The stutters are so…

I can't believe that I'm already having issues with my Asus board. When I turned on the machine this morning, it would not turn on. After removing a USB PCI card, the computer did turn on, but now I have issues with the USB ports and starting the computer results in a start, then turns off, then it restarts. It's a head scratch-er. I going to just replace it with a Gigabyte or EVGA. Anyone with a Gigabyte please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.Jose

Some of you who are familiar with my posts in the last few weeks know that I've been experiencing bad performance on my new build. Mostly issues with stutters. The only thing I have left to do before I give up and sell it is to OC. I have followed Nicks guides to set-up (4x), Bojote's tweaks, and even replaced my HDD and Ram. So what kind of performance benefits can I get with a typical OC on the 2500k? I'm at 3.3 now so say anything above 4.0. Cheers

My gpu usage in fsx is at most 30% and an average of 20% ( i checked it in msi afterburner.) I have a msi 570gtx with 1.5gb mem. Is this normal? And how can I let fsx use more of my gpu? My CPU is a Sandy bridge 2600k. When i fly i have microstutters when in windowseat view. I think it is gpu related.

Hello, As you may have noticed the Windows 8 developer preview pack has been released. I have downloaded it for my Dell Vostro which is as slow as a snail because of clutter and I thought maybe a new OS could help it. There is nothing on it so its not a big deal if it fails. I partitioned off 30GB for the installation on the main HDD but I cant figure out how to set the directory of the setup. I have the setup on a portable HDD and have tried to install from the desktop but it will just go over the existing XP. Thanks in advance, Andrew p.s. If I need to burn it to disk, what is the best way to burn an .iso file.

Not much on this in the Avsim forums so I thought I would start a thread on it. When I picked out the components of my new computer build, the one thing I did not consider was the post sale service. It turns out that I did have an RMA issue so here is my feedback for others considering purchases. Problem: Strange artifacts on my new monitor. Solution: After communication with ASUS I did a few things to rule out the video card and confirm it was the monitor. Resolution: ASUS shipping me a new 27" monitor. Actually they upgraded the monitor because the model I have is out of stock. Service: Very good and quick response to RMA, follow up questions and resolution. I …

Ok so I've got everything in the cart and ready to go. Plan on using existing 250GB WD drive and Radeon GPU (4500 I think) until I get more cash. This was a budget built for a system that will only do two things: run FSX and Xplane. I use REX, PMDG 737, and various other add on aircraft. I'm a pro pilot so I don't anticipate spending more than 10 hours per month in the sim. If you think I've $%&@ up with my components, or know of cheaper ones that will work just as/nearly well... please speak up. I'm a Mac devotee and have been trying to school myself on PCs. Major considerations were upgradability and SLI ability at some point. Thanks!!!

Hello, when I went to turn the computer to sleep today and it started the process then the screen went blank. I left it there for 5 minutes and it was still not sleeping, all the fans were going. So i held the power button and had to do a system boot restore thing. I am just wondering if this is like a one off or something to worry about. Thanks, Andrew

I would like to upgrade the system for FSX and hopefully get a happy OC of 4.0 or more at a FSB of around 450. I know I will need to upgrade the CPU cooling, maybe the…

After finding a guide to overclock the CPU with exactly the same specs as my system, I finely plucked up the courage to do so. I'm very pleased with the results, FPS's have improved by 75% and temp stays around 60c. I have one question however. According to the CPU-Z tool the Core Speed is 4179 MHz when actually flying in FSX and drops to 2388 MHz when not in FSX. Is this normal? I assumed The core speed would be constant once overclocked.

Hi, I've got a P8P67 rev 3.0 mobo with the well known dual-boot issue. I've tried everything, even contacted ASUS support but the issue could not be permanently cured. Now I am considering to RMA the board and go for a Z series one. Now the question: can the MOBO be exchanged without having to do a fresh re-install from scratch again? FSX is fully set up and running just great, and honestly I am not in the mood to spend 2 days on installing and tweaking it. Thanks! Robert

I think i have decided to take the Sandy Bridge plunge. Hearing so many good stories about the "chip that can finally tame FSX!"The J41 and NGX are becoming VERY tempting!!!! Combine those with ORBX PNW/Nrm/CRM and REX Overdrive i am really looking forward to a great simming experience. Here is the plan: i5 2500K ( planning an overclock to 4.5 GHZ) Noctua NH-D14 coolerCorsair Vengeance DDR 1600 8GBAntec 750 PSUAnted DF-35 Case ( i confirmed that this wil fit the Noctua)FSX on seperate HD ( non SSD) Now the only thing that might be a slight weak link is the video card . I have a GTX 460 ( i bought this card 7 months ago to use with FS9 ) which i hope will not bottle …
