I am doing a sanity check here guys... My long time friend (see specs below), died a horrible death this last week and no amount of resuscitation has brought it back. So, what's a normal flight simmer to do? Convince his wife that a dead 'puter is not a good thing, psychologically and physically, for her beloved, of course! Works everytime. The alternatives, in her mind, are totally unacceptable...So, here is what I bought:HP Pavilion HPE h8se series • Intel® Core™ i7-990X six-core Extreme Edition [3.46GHz, 1.5MB L2 + 12MB shared L3 cache] • 16GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [4 DIMMs] 2TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive • 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive • 1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce G…

A few months ago when my overclock was unstable I played with the voltage until it passed prime95 tests. It proved stable and the voltage and clock speed were the ones you see in my signature. I ran several FSX Flights (%70 over 7 hours of flying), Played the heck out of Battlefield 3 since release, and so on. All with no problems, but for some odd reason today the bsod happened again. It ALWAYS happens under the following circumstances:Only when watching youtube videos have I ever got the 0x124 bsod. Weird, huh? Last time I checked youtube wasnt as instensive as running fsx or playing BF3.BSOD Error:Stop 0x124I will upload the dmp file, but im pretty sure its the same err…

Final WordsIvy Bridge will bring about higher clock speeds thanks to its 22nm process, however the gains will likely be minimal at best. Intel hasn't been too keen on pursuing clock speed for quite some time now. Clock for clock performance will go up by a small amount over Sandy Bridge (4 - 6%), combine that with slightly higher clock speeds and we may see CPU performance gains of around 10% at the same price point with Ivy Bridge. The bigger news will be around power consumption and graphics performance.-----------I guess maybe w/ more overclockability it could be worth spending more $$ over Sandy Bridge. What's your take?Noel

I have upgraded an AMD X2 6000 to a AMD Phenom II X4 965BE 3.4 GHz. I experience significant improvement in FSX performence. Still one thing makes me wonder if my CPU is utilised to its best. I have a hardware monitoring program called Dual core which among many factors monitors the CPU clock. During idle it displays 800 MHz and during gaming I see it goes up to 2200 MHz. But my CPU is a 3.4 GHz CPU.Does it detect the lower load when exiting FSX (or other game) so it downclocks to fast for me to see the max used CPU clock? Or could my CPU be underutilised?

OK, looked through here and didn't see anyhting like this so hopefully this is new. All of a sudden my MS2004 graphics started with this jerky motion when in Vittual cockpit mod. Up, down or side to side will stop, hesitate and then continue. The entire spectrum does the same, all visuals and the flight mod as well. I thought, maybe a virus, but no, ran everything and no virus.I thought before I do anything really unwise, I woulf ask here and get advise or info on what to do or try. I can't be the only one that has encountered this before. Any and all info will be appreciated. Thanks, Swede

Hello,I'd be grateful for any input you guys might have over the following.Yesterday I was having a cursory look at overclocking. Whilst trying to familiarize myself with my BIOS settings I noticed that the clock speed for my processor (Intel Core Due E8400) showed 2.0Ghz. In windows, when I click properties on My Computer it shows the processor as 3.0Ghz.The question is which one should I believe? I know that it is supposed to run at 3.0Ghz, but does the fact that it is showing in the BIOS as running at 2 mean that my computer is throttled back somewhat?Grateful for any advice that you might have - I apologise if the above description is a bit vague.OliIntel core 2 duo E…

Hi everyone! So, I have a WD Elements External Hard Drive (http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Elements-Desktop-External/dp/B002QEBMBY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319506065&sr=8-1 to be exact) and EVERY time I plug it into my computer, it will automatically start freezing the whole computer.... Like first Skype freezes if I'm using it, then Chrome freezes, then Windows Explorer freezes, causing the whole computer to mess up and just come to an unstable state.... What is going on over here? Once the computer freezes, I usually manually shut the computer down (pressing down power button) and when it restarts, I can normally replug in the EHD with no problems, and I can…

Hi guys (and in the unlikely event) girls,Right so carrying on from my earlier discussion I thought perhaps its a better idea to start a new thread on this instead of hi-jacking somebody elses. We were discussing machine builds for FSX and we got onto SSD's, now this is a relatively new tech and I am relatively un-tech minded and many of you on this forum are for more knowledgeable than I when it comes to the computing world.I've found this product with the same company that are building my machine: Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1)- I believe I can actually ring them and have them swapp the standard one that was small an…

I have always wondered if having Windows and FSX on the same disk was a liability. From my experiences I would "guess" that Windows keeps its most used routines in memory. Thus calls for disk read or write do not cause Windows to go to the disk except for the customer's data. There may also be a hierarchy in terms of usage. That is, some routines are always eligible for roll-out while others stay unless there is a strong need for memory. A roll-out may be to Pagefile or simply erased and the next call for that routine requires acquisition from its original location. A slow process. So, given the need for FSX to constantly go to the disk for the next landclass texture, clo…

Hi there,As the new Matrox TH2Go 2.07 firmware supports resolutions up to 5760x1080@50Hz I'd like to share here monitors, which does support native, 1920x1080 resolution at 50Hz refresh rate. I have managed to find on other forums these models: ASUS VH222HSamsung B2440Acer GD245hq I decided to start this topic, since I am looking for a 3x27" config and found it tough to dig out, if any of 27" panels does support 50Hz refresh rate Do any of fellow simmers use other models? Please share the news with community.

Every day i wake up my Overclockers basket creeps up £10 or so. It read £637 monday it now reads just on £700. I can't be doing with that, i know i should have bought it monday but until i am sure i want the parts, i can't My question is what is the difference between the 2 items in the links. Both seem the same other than the price and make (PNY opposed to Asus) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-247-AS and http://www.amazon.co.uk/PNY-nVIDIA-GeForce-GTX560Ti-Graphics/dp/B004XFS47E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1319220876&sr=8-3 I don't mind ordering individually to get the best deal, but ordering as 1 would make delivery easier of course.

First I want to say I know virtually nothing about OCing a system, other than I want to do it. I built the below system and have great performance on it, but still get low FPS in some situations. I know it's possible to OC this set up pretty well and have tried several OC tutorials/videos that I have found online. The problem is instability. When I OC, the system will crash and reboot. The temp is never above 155 (using HWMonitor PRO) so I dont believe it is a cooling problem. I am looking for someone who has this same combination and can help me with the OC. Since I dont know what any of the settings really mean, I dont know what to tweak and how. ASUS P8Z68-V ProSan…
