Hello,I have a phenom 955 running at 3.8 Ghz which gives me decent performance with FSX. But with heavy traffic and cloudy weather over busy areas, it starts to stutter, not that I care about fps numbers but to give you an idea it settles around 10-11 fps.If I upgrade to a SB 2600K and say I oc it to 4.5, do you think the performance gain would be worth the money? I wonder if anyone done this exact upgrade before and what were the results.I just don't want to end up with a little gain after I spend half a grand. :)Thank you,Doruk

Hello, Currently my PC has an HDD (1Tb) with two partitions. There's C: (OS) and D: (games). In a couple of days I'll be upgrading my PC and I'll add another 1Tb HDD. I use Acronis True Image to create backups (images) of both partitions. I want to leave C: on the old HDD and put D: on the new one. My question is: What's the best way to do this? Should I connect just the old HDD, boot into Windows (7 Ultimate x64), get rid of partition D:, connect the new HDD, reboot and only then restore the D: image created with Acronis or is it OK to connect both HDDs from the start? I'm worried with the assignment of drive letters... All my games (including FS9 and FSX) should stay in…

  3. This is the first time this has happened ever with my setup. I will post a screenshot explaining. at the time I was running the following programs (squawkbox, Google chrome, and FSX{in windowed mode}) It almost seemed weather related as far as FSX updating the weather. Anyways the aircraft went of course and nearly crashed as soon as a weather update was in progress.(maybe squawkbox was updating weather at the same time) Iam using FSX real world (Static). In FSX the screen turned pink in the sky and started flashing and here is a screenshot of what happened after this Also I recieved a warning from Nvidia Control panel saying FSX needed to close (however the program rec…

So I've got a 2500k @ 5.0 stable (for several months now) and a GTX 480 w/1.5g or VRAM. I have a question though. When Im flying into YMML and I look at the airport (FTX YMML) my FPS will be around say 22FPS, when I look away towards the fields for instance my FPS jump to like 45 FPS. Here's the question; has already been loaded my my CPU into FSX (obviously I can see it infront of me), and the surround terrain has been loaded in FSX by my CPU, so when I look at YMML (highly detailed) and my FPS drop a little doesn't that mean what is slowing the performance down is my GTX 480 and not my CPU? Is it posilbe that my 480 could be a bottle neck with a CPU as fast as mine?I do…

Hello, I'd appreciate any answers to these questions about installing SATA drives on my Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR v1.0 (BIOS vF8 and ICH10R storage controller) motherboard, for running Win7-64 (I'm actually trying out Win7-64RC at the moment).Q1) I assume that Win7 automatically installs the ICH10R AHCI / RAID driver during windows setup, however when I try to install the latest 64bit driver (v8.9.0.1023) from the Gigabyte website the installer fails. Any ideas why?Q2a) What SATA mode BIOS setting is best for installing Win7 and for running FSX, PATA, AHCI, or RAID mode? I do not intend to setup a RAID array but from posts I've read it appears most flexible to install the O…

Up to now I do not use the turbo boost feature of my I2600k and have locked the multiplier to 48 for flightsimming.I did this because with graphical intensive programs turbo boost will also stress the gpu extra and my graphics card already is overclocked quiet a bit. I also came across a topic about it : when I overclock the CPU via Turbo all 3dmark gpu scores are consistently(can't stress this enough) lower, switch to fixed multiplier all scores go way up, consistently.Specifics:ONLY AFFECTS GPU SCORE, Physx score stays constant, Turbo or fixed.3dmark11 GPU score with turbo OC(5ghz): 53363dmark11 GPU score with fixed multi OC(5ghz):5926performance hit: ~10%3dmark vanta…

I checked the clock speed during a day flight with cloud, AI and 767 it was singing away at around what I had set in the tweeker menu. However I did a night flight in the 737 NX VC and noticed a drop off in frame rates (down to 7ish) during the dark cruise. I checked the clock speed and it was around 1600 and panning round the VC was slow. Have I missed something in the bios settings that lets the clock speed slow down when it is not heavily loaded . Hi guys, I'd like some authoratitive advice on what I propose to do in the first stage of my PC rebuild. I currently run Win7 64 on a 500Gb standard 7200rpm HD and with FSX on a standard 1Tb 7200rpm HD. I intend to put the OS on a new 64Gb SSD and FSX on a 650Gb (?) 10000rpm Western Digital Velociraptor. I would be interested in some really good advice and in particular to my questions: 1) Can I simply copy everything from the OS HD to the SSD, if so what is the best method?2) Presumably I can also do the same with FSX copying to the Velociraptor?3) I know zero about SSDs and so what kind of SSD do I need to replace the existing Sata drive?4) Does the SSD connect in the s…

Hi guys. I'm currently trying to do some research into what specs to go with on my new PC. It's main use is going to be FSX. I will have £1000 to spend, maybe stretch to £1100 ish. I want the i7 2600 Sandybridge with a Nvidia graphics card, I've searched the internet and watched videos on Youtube and have an idea what I need but I'd like some advice from people who have the Sandybridge systems. I'll be buying it from Overclockers.co.uk when I come to buy it. Thanks, Jonny.

  13. HiI have my Aliewnware m17x r3 for one week and have been trying to get FSX to run properly since then. In the nVidia control panel FSX is listed as a programme and set to use the nVidia processor. When I go to the "Settings" tab in FSX, under "Device" it says "Intel ® HD Graphics Family .0.0" and does not list the 580m. In game I am getting between 10 and 50+fps with settings on high to max. (I also have the sim on my m11x r1 and that lists the graphics card under the same tab). The sim runs quite well but often when I exit I get a "fatal error" message and the sim re-starts itself. Also when I launch the game sometimes the window that should display the aircraft under t…

Hey team, Looking for a little bit of advice. My current system, specs below, can still be brought to its knees in some situations for example (Complex addon aircraft, full WOAI, REX, ASE, FSDT JFK, UT, GE PRO, FS Global etc). I have done most the common tweaks, set FS9 prioroty to high and assign it its own core etc but still just not quite there with performance eg sometimes in (low to mid teens with fps). Any tips on which of the following components (in what order and to what) I could upgrade is appreciated. I'm not comfortable with overclocking. Hello, I'm about to finally upgrade my PC but would like some opinions on which motherboard to get. I'm undecided between these two: - ASUS P8Z68 - V Pro - ASUS Sabertooth P67 (rev.B3) I was going for the P8 when I read some good reviews about the Sabertooth. This is for an i7 2600k and 12 Gb GSkill Ripjaw DDR3 1600Mhz memories. Thank you in advance for your help.

So I have an i7 2600k and I'm running it at 4Ghz but when I run prime95 it seems to reach around 71C and I can't understand why the temps get so high for an Intel i7 only clocked at 4Ghz so my question is that if you increase the core voltage will it drop the temperatures? Right now my core voltage is 1.092V. Thanks.

  18. Hi, Well, after having bought FSX when it came out and despite having what I believe is an OK system to handle it my frame rates are very bad in FSX. Granted I'm the kind of guy who needs everything turned up to 11. But even on half sliders for most settings I'm only currently getting 12FPS on the ground. I've ran a few system tests and it seems that the CPU is what is being maxed oiut and causing the performance issues. current spec: CPU: intel quad 2.20GHz processor GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX 512mb MEMORY: 8GB over 100GB free on my hard drive As my motherboard is a little dated I'm going to get a new 6 core 3.30GHz AMD Phenom II CPU with a AM3+ motherboard and 8G…

Quick but of advice please fellas. I currently run FSX on a 1Tb 7500 HD and my OS (Win7) on a 500Gb 7500 HD. I want to get hold of a 600Gb Velociraptor 10,000RPM drive, my question is, should FSX be installed on the Velociraptor or the OS? Or is it necessary to have 2 x Velociraptors to get the benefit of the faster drive? Thanks guys...

Ok, so I'm about to hit the order button for my new system which will be: - Intel 2600K- Mobo P8P67 Evo B3- RAM Corsair X3M DDR3 2x4 GB- cooling Corsair Hydro H80 while I keep my WD Velociraptor 300 GB, the Corsair 850W power supply and my Asus ATI Radeon 5870 video card (connected to a Samsung 25,5" running in 1900x1200). My OS is Windows 7 64 bit. Now I started wondering whether I should add a SSD sata 3 drive in the 80-120 GB range. What would be the wisest way to arrange the hard drives then? Some say one should put the OS on one drive and FSX (and FS9) on another. Others put the OS with FSX on the SSD and add-ons for FSX on the other drive. I currently run everythi…

Haven't been flight simming for a while because the experience isn't all that great with stutters and tics. I notice when I load a complex aircraft or scenery from the main screen, fsx freezes for about 5-10 seconds and I can hear my hard drive spool up and come to life followed by a buzz. Is this something normal, or did I choose another cheap drive?
