Planning to build a new FSX system and surprised when i saw this review showing i5's gaming performance as almost identical if not better than i7 in some cases I know i7 with HT is good for video editing or office apps. But does it have an edge for gaming? If so, what is it's edge over i5-2500K particularly when both are overclocked to almost identical speeds? Also, btw, wondering which one the games listed on the above link is more similar to FSX?

I had some memory issues with my PC when I put it together and found 1 of my memory sticks was causing BOSD during windows start up so after removing 1 chip at at time it eventualy stopped BSOD and worked 100% of the time. I put the offending memory chip into my old PC and that started to BSOD too so I guess it was that. Anyway im running at 4GB now but my pc takes ages to start programs like FSX. It starts ok and then takes like 3 to 4 mins before the hard drive starts to grind away and then the program starts. Its like this with the DCS A-10c and most other heavy programs take forever to do anything. I know that running 2 DDR3 chips in a system with 3 slots makes the…

Hey guys, I've been able to successfully OC my 2600k to 4.8 GHz, with 1.35 Vcc, but if I run Prime95, it will start failing in less than one minute. On the other hand, setting the Vcc to 1.45v will make it run without errors but that value's proximity to the 1.52 "Official" limit is worrying me. What exactly am I doing wrong? My temps are mostly fine with the new A50 cooler, but I'm totally lost. What's worse is that others can Prime95 totally stable on 4.8 with 1.35.Help me out please!

Hi all,I recently got my system to the FPS and smoothness levels that I have been looking for, and begun conducting some flights in the Level D 767. I'm using ASE w/ REX 2OD for weather, RC4 for ATC, and TrafficX @ 60% for traffic. I've been receiving Out of Memory errors shortly after touchdown, usually right about as I turn for the taxiway. This has happened twice between FSDT KLAS and Flightbeam KSFO w/ Megacities LV and SFO enabled, but also between FlyTampa TNCM and KTPA (two lower autogen areas). I'm running FSX Acceleration on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium, w/ 8GB of Corsair Dominator GT 1866 CAS 8. I have HighMemFix=1 in my .CFGIs there anything I can do to …

Yesterday for my birthday I got off the Intel track for the first time in years and went from an E8400 to a 1090T. I guess it's not really a sidegrade since a Phenom II X6 is a fair bit more powerful than a Core 2 Duo.While everything is still fresh and new I'd like to run FSXMark11, I'll do it before and after overclocking. FSX is not installed right now but I'm assuming it should be a completely fresh install, don't follow NickN's guide or do anything, yes?

I want to make FSX videos, and I want to record with smooth fps, in both the game and the recording. I do sort of care about a "fine" fps though (around 20-30fps?)My current specs:Phenom II 1090T stocknVidia9400GT (upgrade to 6950 in near future)890GPA-UD3H Mobo4Gb 1333Mhz RAM CL9I just want to know whether better RAM, overclocking the processor or anything else could help gather a smoother fps at around 20-30fps? My friend has a smooth 40fps on his 6950 and 1055T, but I don't know if it would be good for recording?Could someone please enlighten me on this?Any help appreciated.

Hi again,I just built my new system. Finally got everything running good FS9/FSX but one thing I did not buy was a sound card. I have an Asus P8H67 motherboard and the dude at microcenter stated that a sound card is a waste of money with my new motherboard. Just want some opinions if it would be worth adding an high end sound card?

A couple of days ago, it got warm out. I had just ordered new memory, but I noticed my system had hung all by itself with the old memory. I upgraded (512 meg to 2 gig) and started. It ran for a while, but then came down. Since then, it's been unreliable, and most of the time it won't even boot. However, it will boot and come up in the morning, when it's cool (68F) but not in the afternoon at 75F.Another thing - I noticed the CPU fan was not running. I think I must have pinched a wire. I repaired that and the fan is running again, but could I have done permanent damage? This is an old 1.8 GHz Pentium 4. Is this something I could reasonably attribute to overheating?T…

Hello allI am running an I7 975 extreme. I have seen many people obtain great OC's and performance with the 2600k that appear to be far better than what I am able to achieve. Is there any benefit in me upgrading the CPU bearing in mind I will also need a new mobo? It will hurt considering the price I paid for the 975!!!ThanksGarry

This is a continuation of a topic that was begun in another thread (see quote above), so I thought I would open a new one. I know a few others have also had issues with this as well, so perhaps a thread dedicated to the issue is appropriate.I have done some googling on ntoskrnl and hal.dll (both were the reported cause of my BSODs in the error reports). From what I've found, Windows frequently likes to erroneously point the finger at ntoskrnl when the issue is hardware related, so it appears it's nothing but a false positive. I assume the same is true of hal.dll. Back to hardware...So far I have increased PLL overvoltage from 1.75 to 1.85v, disabled PLL overvoltage, incre…

Due to progressively failing hardware and my financial constraints I was obliged to junk a HD and partition my FS drive to install a cloned XP from the original XP drive. Unfortunately the guy got the numbers wrong and I now have only 25Gb free on the FS partition and a gazillion Gb free on the XP partition. In the two flights I have made since I got crashes on short final due to lack of space.(I have 4Gb RAM, with the Userva and Address Aware mods correctly set up.)Is a free 25Gb simply not enough? If so, can I resize my partitions with a free, safe and reliable freeware tool, or will I have to pay the guy to re-do the job or buy a commercial program? Thanks.

Hi,I am now about to upgrade my processor from the actual i3 ( most likely ) to an i7 920/930.Many simmers over-clock it with a good cooling system. My question is: Which one is good? ( keeping in mind that I have in mind to spend around 450/500 € between processor and cooling system... and 200/250 € will be spent , obviously, on the processor... ) Thank you very much for the assistance.

I was flying today on a Concorde X route into EGLL with EGLL addon installed, REX 2.0 clouds 1024, Ultimate Terrain, sliders high but not maxed, 20% AI traffic, no cars and experienced some screen tearing and then the dreaded OOM error for FSX. Not a blue screen or the sim just crashing. I actually thought this was very unlikely to happen with Windows 7 64bit but I guess it can. Just want to double check to see if this is simply FSX related or a result of overclocking instability.thanks,Mark.
