Hello,I wish to upgrade my E8500 to this bundle: "Krypton Ankylosaur" Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.60GHz Overclocked Bundle I contacted them asking if they could provide 8GB of RAM instead of 4GB but have been answered that they cannot reach the same overclocking with 8GB.Do you think that 4GB would be enough to run FSX with full addons (REX, GEX, UTX, UT2 etc.)?Many thanks for your help.Alberto

I have always installed fs on its own separate drive. We are having to reinstall windows and my computer guy is questioning me as to why I do this. They are mechanical drives. Also, does fs pull off the hard drive after it is loaded when flying?I am trying to explain the reasons for this but I am not a computer guru.Anyone with a good explanation that I could take to him would be appreciated. Thanks,Ron

I hadn't seen this mentioned here yet...I just discovered that my Vista boot SSD (an Intel X-25M G2) was not properly formatted with the blocks aligned with the sector boundaries. Fixing that resulted in a hefty 17% improvement in the benchmark scores and a noticeably snappier OS drive.Theoretically, the Vista installer is supposed to create the boot sector aligned with a 4K sector boundary, but in my case the upgrade version apparently inherited the old NTFS partition boundary. When the SSD isn't aligned, the 4K block reads/writes cross sector boundaries, and so to read/write a standard 4K block of data, you have to read/write two 4K blocks to get it all, slowing thing…

Hi guys,as you can see in my sig I´m running a core 2 quad q8300. I know that this is not the best CPU out there, esspecially whan it comes to FSX performance (I think even a singel core of the i7-2600k could send my whole CPU to hell!) . So came accross the idea of uprading my CPU rather then any other component. I know that everyone recomments the SB CPU´s but this is not an option for me, they´re just too expensive. I´ve made some reseach and came to the conclusion that switching to a SB platform will cost me more than 700€ or roughly 1000$ and this is just too much. Maybe someone can recommend me a better and not that expensive CPU out of the core 2 quad family. You …

Hi... I got some annoying sound issues on my FS2004....First some back-story:I had some problems with my system and had to reinstall windows and my file system on my partition where I had Flight Sim seems to be corrupted and can't do anything with those files.... not even delete them (although I can copy and install files onto it without problem). It's just the files, which were on that partition before windows reinstall. But I currently don't want to format that partition as there might be some files on it that I would miss for the reinstall. I reinstalled Flight Simulator on another partition on another driver and started to reinstall some of my files (not copy…

Dear all,With interest, I have been reading different forums, all related to FSX and its add-ons. I have seen many different suggestions regarding fsx settings, tweaking etc and I have also tried that myself to optimize my PC's cabability related to FSX. Some of you may be thinking why Im creating this topic as the web is full of different kind of intstructions of tweaking etc and I apologize this in advance, but I decided to turn towards all of you pro's, who might have been earlier in the same situation as I am know, that maybe you are willing to help or at least advice me on this matter. I have been virtually flying for about two years now, and about 6 months ago, I bo…

  11. I have installed the vrinsight M panel for MSFX ( Gold edition) The manual says to go to the Panel installer in SerialFP2. It then indicates go to MSFS-Root Path. When I go there, it will not open up the #2 window called VRinsight panel to allow me to display the aircraft. I get the MSFX folder not found? I have tried everything without success. Has anyone had this problem? The panel is superb, however not so if it won't work.I have an asus board with 8 gig of mem and windows 7 64 bit O/SAny help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cessna172W

  12. Hey guys, a friend asked me to build him a list of parts for a Sandy Bridge PC, but before I do I want to educate myself a little more to make the best choices possible, I am aware now that the Faulty Cougar Point connection is ok now and they are being sold again, my question(s) are, whats the consensus on motherboards. I heard earlier that you guys prefer certain chipsets, P67 was the one I believe, I know nothing about the importance of that, if anyone can shed light as to why it's better, or to avoid certain chipsets please let me know. I also heard when it comes to overclocking you will want lower voltage ram around 1.35v and most certainly not he standard 1.65v, is …

  13. I recently upgraded my RAM with hopes of overclocking my i7-920 further. I had 1333 MHz RAM previously and couldn't move up my system bus speed any higher (RAM was at 1328 MHz) without instability. So I picked up a set of 3x2 GB Corsair 1600 MHz sticks.Installed them fine and Windows 7 (64 bit) booted fine. I checked the system info screen though to see it state "RAM: 6.00 GB (4.00 GB utilizable)". I shutdown, reseated the RAM and restarted getting all 6.00 GB showing up. Over the past 3-4 days now I've had Windows boot from a cold boot with the above 4.00 GB utlizable message. If I then shutdown and restart immediately (restarting doesn't work), all 6.00 GB shows u…

Gurus, I'm thinking of moving FSX from a 640GB WD (64mb cache) HDD to an SSD (128GB) drive, possibly Intel or Crucial. This is a fairly recent installation of FSX and I'd like to clone the HDD to the SSD using WD's Acronis software. Also, Windows 7 64-bit lives on it's own WD HDD drive. Wondering if anyone has any input, experience, thoughts on this transition. Does it make performance sense to use one HDD with one SSD? I've done some exploring on forums and it seems reasonable. Further down the road I may add another SSD for Windows. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.cheers,Greg G

Every now and then when I start up fs9 and show the fps counter, it reads from 200 to 400 fps and sometimes even higher than that. At the same time, the sim itself is craaawling forward totally unusable. The real fps is probably less than 1 fps. I've had this problem several years and with totally different systems - not a single hardware component in common. The add-ons of course are to a large extent the same but I can have this issue immediately having started the sim at a default scenery with default cessna and no weather add-on started. It doesn't help that I restart the sim, I have to reboot and sometimes the problem will show itself immediately again after the rebo…

Hi,How many cores does FSX utilise properly?Im just wondering whether to get an i3 and overclock it to approx 4.6ghz, get an i5 760 quad and overclock it to about 4.2ghz or to get the latest sandy bridge 2500k and overclock that to 4.8ishI know the sandy bridge will be fastest but will FSX really run that much faster using the 2500k than the i3 if the same graphics card is used? Surely 4.6ghz is going to be faster than the 4.2ghz i5 750?Just wondering as going the i3 route will save me quite a bit of money in the build.Matt

Hello!I have been using my i7 920@3,6 GHz for two years now and my FSX has run not too bad (GTX 470, 6 GB RAM). But on approaches and departures at Mega EDDF, LFPG or EGLL I only have down to 13 fps even without a 2D panel or 3D panel in view (homecockpit). Sliders are on the right sides (autogen and scenery dense, but not extremely dense) except water and ground traffic, UT 2 is in use (just 40% traffic). FSX.cfg is tweaked by Bojote's tool; ground textures unfortunately often are not sharp on 80% zoom factor - don't know why.Now I consider to upgrade to a 970 because price has fallen extremely and I want to stay with socket 1366 (no motherboard change and re-install nec…
